Anyone else think this is going to be a monumental let down?

I don't see this as a problem at all. It's an island. How would you go about providing unlimited area?
Plus it adds an interesting challenge of managing available space properly.

(and on top of that, the tutorial island is tiny, reserve your judgement for once you've seen the other ones)

I think he means you only get a small % of building space on an island.
I agree though; better to wait and see.

Yeah, from what I understood he'd like to level the whole island. Which, I think, is the exact opposite of what FD wants us to do. Instead, incorporating mountains and pieces of land you can't build on into your park so it looks good is what I'm looking forward to.

Otherwise - "Give us moar dinosaurs!" "Give us moar land!" "Give us unlimited money!" .... One could almost mistake this place for Dangerous discussion. :D

No matter what FD does there will be people that complian. I love the size of the map in the tutorial. I think it is perfect to add a bit of a challenge. We also have no idea if we can go to different areas of the island via monorail. Heck the only complait is that there is no buildable monorail but that is minor. I am not worried about the limited about of buildings that were shown in the demo build. As long as I can make enclosures with dinosaurs I am happy.

In the video from BIS with the commentary, the developer said that on a certain point you can extend the monorail so that people can get to other locations in the park. So my guess is that the limits that we saw on the start island are not the real limits. Because when you extend the monorail you strand directly on the build limits.. (31min mark in the video) Maybe at a certain point you get access to more land. We don't know if we saw the full game in the demo so al what we're doing now is guessing.

I never said level the whole island. If you look at the map there's plenty of flat terrain which is blocked off for some reason from building which is a ridiculous decision. You can't build around the mountains, you just build in the blob in the middle which is a dumb decision.

The island should be open to building so you can spread the park around, not bunch it up in one corner of the island. If I want different attractions in each corner of the island linked by monorail and an off limits section out of the way where my utility buildings are kept then that should be an option.

If you look at Jurassic World the park was spread out across the island (except the north which was the restricted section).

Again - you are judging the whole game by the small tutorial island.

Nope, developers have already confirmed islands are limited and you can't build on them all. I think it was the Game Informer video.

Yes, they confirmed that not 100% of the islands is suitable for building. But the building area WILL be bigger on other island.
So it all boils down to the fact that you actually DO want to level the whole island. :D

Nope, they said each island you can build on a part. It will be a bigger version of the tutorial island, just a chunk in the middle you can build on. The area you can build may be bigger, but again. It's not going to be spread out. It will just be a section cut out in the middle bunching the whole park together.

I don't understand why you even bother, according to you this game is bound to become a monumental letdown and you're only bringing up what could go south with it.
We don't know all that's going to be in this game but you seem to have figured it all out already.
JWE is obviously not your game, just move on and/or buy/play a game that's more to your liking.

I've watched the Game Informer video and while some might be concerned that we’re only allowed to build on a section of the island and not the whole island, I have to say the buildable section on Isla Matanceros is enormous! With a rough estimate considering the boundary lines that are set, it’s possible to build a sizeable number of large dinosaur enclosures with enough space dedicated for all visitor, staff and power facilities.

Nope, I've mentioned a lot of positives.

The graphics, animations, the genome slicing, disease management, the fact there's an actual story and the fact Nedry Events are confirmed as happening are all positives.

Still according to you this game will be a monumental letdown, I wouldn't spend so much time or effort on anything that to my opinion will turn out to be a monumental letdown.

I think this game will be cool and I'm realy looking forward to it, sure I'd like some things to be added, like a sandbox mode, but from what I've seen I think it'll be a very nice game.
Definitely not a monumental letdown.

I think this is the current meta in gaming mentality. Not enjoying things that are in the game, but rather be disappointed by things that aren't in the game.
By this standard, The Witcher 3 is a monumental letdown because of the lack of dragon battles and inability to fly them.

I don't disagree with this :')

Now I think constructive criticism and suggesting new features is an important thing for communities to do, but every now and again the "this game will suck because it isn't 100% what I want it to be so the devs don't put in enough effort"-mentality can get quite tiring. Not saying the person you're responding to is necessarily like that (haven't read enough to know), but I sure see where you're coming from.

I agree, sometimes it looks like a sport to burn down every new thing before it even is a thing.
I'm a gamer since the late seventies and when I look at how much more beautiful and complex a lot of games have become I consider myself a very happy gamer.
I'm having loads of fun with the broad variety of games available although I play only a couple of them very seriously, like Elite Dangerous.
There's always a game to have fun with though, such a waste of time pondering over a game that won't give you that fun.

The things that have been left out are things that should be in a park builder though.

Look at other building, construction and management type games. They have huge amounts of customisation. It's a standard thing that should be included.

I'm surprised people are satisfied. The game is gonna get boring quick if your park always ends up looking the same.

Humans are strange critters. By and large we fixate on the negative over the positive. It's a strength and a weakness I suppose. If we were not always hungry for more and better things we wouldn't be where we are now as a species. That said... balance in all things. :) Games should just be fun - not battlegrounds between tribes. Not sources of constant disappointment and loathing. Life's too short for that.

That is because people are judging this with not only their expectations but also their wallet. And this is going to be 60 dollars/euros..So people don't want to "overpay". I have friends that are already saying that they're not buying this for that amount of money. I will buy it and i hope i will have fun with this game for 10-20 hrs+.

Our point is - we are not satisfied NOR dissatisfied. Until I play the game I simply have no way of knowing.
Things that are "left out" as you say, may be things that simply collide with the gameplay style FD have chosen and if that gameplay style is entertaining and fulfilling, I will be happy.

Your notion that every builder game should be the same is wrong, or at least counter-productive for the development of the industry. Doing things differently doesn't mean doing them wrong.
