Modes Elite: Dangerous from fresh player's perspective

IMO, it's not the "true" PvPers that want to force players into Open. Most PvPers are happily doing PvP, organizing tournaments, cruising CGs for combat ready ships, or even doing Powerplay and BGS work in Open, without needing any kind of bonus for doing so. The ones wanting to force more players into Open, by restricting much of this game's content to that mode, is a certain subset of player who need players who don't enjoy PvP to be their content, but are unwilling to be the content of others in return.

I've been playing this game since Alpha, most of it in Open, and I've never needed any bonus to do Powerplay or BGS work in Open. I simply find the potential for player opposition makes the experience more fun. I also prefer it if players play in Open of their own free will, because I'd rather not waste my time or theirs by attacking someone who isn't willing to play with me when I'm in the mood to go marauding. PvP is at its best when both sides are willing. Forcing players into Open to be targets for others is PvP at its worst.

edit:

Indeed it does. A misplaced comma can cause a catastrophe. ;)

Ha ha! Truth.

Not true.

That type of PVP exists because the original outlet for PvP failed.

That's what PvP has turned into because of the imbalance.

And what, pray tell, was the "original" outlet for PvP in ED?

To my knowledge, it's always been Open play and other players being the "content". Sure there's "trimmings and garnish" like PP and so forth... but the venue has always remained the same since launch.

Can't rep you again so soon so here's 1000 lbs of Cubeo Razorback bacon.

And as for the whoosh of posting by someone earlier.. I haven't had enough coffee to shovel that much crap so quickly. Have to love it when catching someone red handed shoveling crap through text or even altered pictures and posting proof is suddenly considered "flipping out"...

Only one "flipping out" is the one who got caught

Sometimes punctuation is a matter of life and death!

I believe the example you were looking for is;

Shouldn't this fresh thread be in the Newcomer's subforum to help others?

The pandas and the baby twins are presently being shipped to Al Berta.

Sure, lets check some random post David Braben said on reddit 2 years ago.

Better do all the research before buying a game right?

Damn the box art and advertisements.

Na, all you had to do was register the part where is says: "'Hunt other commanders, play with friends, or play alone.', on almost every piece of marketing. Nothing all that exhaustive. But, I did make sure of the game's setting and format before I bought it. I had no previous experience with an Elite game, so I had to see if it suited me. Strangely I did that small it of 'due diligence' before, that's the key word: before, I layed down my credits.

Funny thing that... Box Art and Advertisement were great... and at no point did either say that you can kill every other player in the game. It caught my interest and I looked into the game. I am not sure of any time that I ever bought a game I just looked at it and got it. Maybe that is me, and in the few times I got a game and realized I didn't like it.... I stopped playing it and didn't demand it change for me. If I did that, heck I'd still be arguing for Dark Souls to change.

I'd rather watch the video, which comes up as the first link if you Google "how did Elite dangerous get its name"
