I received my Elite controller as a gift last August and after a few days fumbling about, I now don't understand why all controllers aren't made with paddles! Last week I noticed that my lower right paddle (P2) was no longer "clicking" and not always registering an input. After searching online and not finding much hope, I went to Microsoft's service site to enter a service request. I ended up opening a chat after registering my Xbox and after submitting a copy of the receipt and two photographs (front and back of controller), the rep told me that they have a "make good" policy on that controller, and to send it in without the removable bits and they will send a replacement!
It did take about 20 minutes on the chat, but most of that was waiting on emails to go back and forth, but I'm thrilled at the no hassle policy, especially since the controller was purchased from a third party (Amazon) almost a year ago (last July).
So, if you are having issues and can't return it to the vendor, give Microsoft a go (might even consider doing it just to get a fresh one before it breaks).
