General / Off-Topic For those with (broken) Elite controllers - easy replacement!

I received my Elite controller as a gift last August and after a few days fumbling about, I now don't understand why all controllers aren't made with paddles! Last week I noticed that my lower right paddle (P2) was no longer "clicking" and not always registering an input. After searching online and not finding much hope, I went to Microsoft's service site to enter a service request. I ended up opening a chat after registering my Xbox and after submitting a copy of the receipt and two photographs (front and back of controller), the rep told me that they have a "make good" policy on that controller, and to send it in without the removable bits and they will send a replacement!

It did take about 20 minutes on the chat, but most of that was waiting on emails to go back and forth, but I'm thrilled at the no hassle policy, especially since the controller was purchased from a third party (Amazon) almost a year ago (last July).

So, if you are having issues and can't return it to the vendor, give Microsoft a go (might even consider doing it just to get a fresh one before it breaks).

Thanks for sharing....

My issues are the thumbstick being jiggly and the rubber on the left peeling away from the plastic

-Glad they helped you, I was told it wouldn't be covered (I've had mine over a year) so I found parts on Ebay but even those, the rubber is coming off again.

These parts are authentic original parts, but seems its poor quality control and lower quality for some parts

It's the rubber grips on mine that are detaching... had no issues apart from that but it's going back for replacement. Microsoft are generally good at replacing broken/defective hardware...always have been since I've used the service a few times over a good many years both on PC and Xbox.

Mine has the same issue with the grips, i'm not even sure if MS would repair it. However i'm not gonna send it in for repairs because i'm probably gonna end up buying the new one if the rumours were true.

The grips started to-- erm, fray on the right side, and eventually I just removed both of them completely. I don't like rubberised grip surfaces on pads, as they're uncomfortable after a prolonged session and they're harder to clean. Plus, it shaved off a little more mass, and when I did that I also finally made the switch from batteries to a charge pack - and that reduced the weight even more. I like a sturdy pad, but that thing's too heavy (I wish there was a model without the dumb rumble motors), and these days it's lighter ergo better than ever.

Good to hear about the service, though.

And yeah, why any platform creator makes pads without paddles these days is beyond me. It fundamentally improves the experience of gaming on console, and for me it's one of the greatest gaming peripherals I've ever used. The simple act of wandering around a world and being able to keep moving and keep looking around whilst looting/activating/reloading is a mini revolution in console gaming.

For Elite [Dangerous] an Elite pad is a step up from the basic pad, but I feel it's made redundant by a HOTAS.

I've got an issue with my left grips lifting. It's been 16 months though, and I suspect the cause is my fault, so I'll risk a repair. Wish me luck.
