Clearly many great RPGs from independent studios prove that it's wrong. Pillars, Tides of Numenera, not to mention Divinity: Original Sin 1/2 that were literally one of the best RPGs ever made. They all have what RPG should have. And they were quite popular, while being part of a genre declared dead by AAA industry decades ago. My point is - big gaming companies are run by literal idiots. People who do not understand gaming, or it's community. They like to tell us what's "in", but frankly they have not a slightest clue what a current in is. Or what it will be in near future. Instead of giving studios freedom to create good games, they create conveyor belts pumping put another forgettable summer blockbuster that nobody will care about next day. It's clear by now that those who innovate, and just follow creative vision make games that have impact. Impact on players, on gaming in general. They leave a long lasting footprint, those are the games people are looking at for inspiration to make more good games.
My ramble probably went on a bit of a tangent...But I'm just sick of suits being in command of whole gaming industry, and constantly steering it into the ditch.
