Bethesda's new IP "Starfield" slowly surfaces

No more hype, no more reading on "what amazing content our new game will have" no nada. I`m still recovering my gaming self from ME Andromeda so I will watch this new Beth ip with stone cold professionalism - no emotions!

Thanks for the video link Chris.
I hope Starfield is coming soon. Also was surprised to hear about Doom2 Hell on Earth teaser!
Should I hold out any hope that either of these new games will have a coop mode?

Super hyped here

Yes, it is supposed to be a single player game, just like TES and Fallouts.
Though as for the leak itself, I don't think there is much to it. Instead of "leak", I would call it a "plausible guesswork"

From what I read it's appears to be a multiplayer online game, especially given the references to ED and SC.

But it could also be an offline sp game like Skyrim, in which case I'd likely pass on it since most of my game time is spent in online co-op.

I guess we won't know for sure until E3 :-(

Yeah, tbh there in no info at all on this. All we know are the snippets devs gave us via Twitter and one interview with Todd where he probably said more than he planned. :D
We'll see. Next to the dinosaurs, one more thing to look forward to in June. :)

Heh, I'm the opposite here. Have gone through all the main series ES titles since Arena, even fooling around in Battlespire, yet never even bothered touching ESO.

Same here.

I hate ESO with a passion, as it is probably the main reason why we'll have to wait over a decade for Elder Scrolls 6 (so it doesn't cannibalize ESO sales).

I'm actually surprised and relieved to know that there will be an Elder Scrolls 6 in the first place, when Bethesda first announced ESO I thought it would be the end of Elder Scrolls as we known and loved.

Fortunately, ESO kind of flopped, so the real Elder Scrolls franchise is safe for now.

I'm in the same boat with this. But the funny thing is - I do play TESO and I have to give credit to the creators. It CAN be played completely singleplayer and I play it that way. Same with SW: The Old Republic. The online bits are there if you want them, but not necessary. Plus both TESO and SWTOR has one great feature when you play them as single player games - it's multiple games in one. In SWTOR you have two factions, each with its own story, eight "classes", also each with their own story, plus every planet has its own story arc as well, which is the only part that is common in the playthrough. So you can basically play the game twice, each time with completely new content and then six more times to experience the other class stories. TESO is similar in this, though not as pronounced. Multiple factions and races mean you can play the game over and over again and it's never the same. That is something that "true" singleplayer games can't give you.

Naturally these two MMOs are an exception, mainly because they are developed by companies known and famous for their storytelling. I wouldn't go anywhere near the other MMOs. :D

My point is, even if Starfield is an MMO, I am confident I will enjoy it. But to be honest, I think it's being described as "Skyrim in space", not "TESO in space" so we'll see. :)

I'm an old Bethesda player, too. Started out with Daggerfall and played just about all TES games since, even the smaller ones like Battlespire and Reguard. Love Fallout, too, although perhaps not as much as TES.

I figured that TESO would definitely put the brakes on any TES6 development, but I'm glad they are still planning on making it. I've not tried TESO, but I have played several other MMOs that have a focus on single player activity like TOR and STO. Even the best of those have one big problem: MMO mechanics. STO and TOR both have pretty darn good stories for video games, but they are severely hampered because the mechanics are terrible. All immersion is lost when you're going around aggo-ing little clustered mobs of Klingons in STO, or when you're spamming your abilties while the cooldown counter ticks down, or when you get a disconnect from the server and are booted back to the menu.

For Bethesda style RPGs I would much rather they focus on a compelling single player non-MMO title.

I don't know why people even mention ESO. It's not made by Bethesda ;)

Who needs a blue pill when you got a Bethesda RPG.

I wouldn't say Bethesda are that good at making RPGs...Arguably, there are quite limited options in their games to play a character. Everything is kind of in fetus/inception state features-wise. Dialogue system is always very basic, many quests offer only one solid path to take, etc. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love TES. However, not for it's roleplaying elements. It's the world building Bethesda excels at IMO. Just the atmosphere. Walking across Skyrim makes you feel the wind and cold in your face. Not to mention TES lore is quite simply second to none in gaming industry. It's vast, and complex. With so many stories to tell. This is what I want from Bethesda game. I'm afraid they are getting a bit rusty with the whole R part of RPG. With their Fallout games being nothing more than glorified shooters, maybe they are starting to diverge from their past style of game making.

I don't think it's rust but rather the attempt on catering the modern "players" who aren't interested in "all the crap". It's sad, but the ability to spend hundreds of hours in the game while slowly discovering the possibilities and stories hidden within is considered a "bad design", these days.

Clearly many great RPGs from independent studios prove that it's wrong. Pillars, Tides of Numenera, not to mention Divinity: Original Sin 1/2 that were literally one of the best RPGs ever made. They all have what RPG should have. And they were quite popular, while being part of a genre declared dead by AAA industry decades ago. My point is - big gaming companies are run by literal idiots. People who do not understand gaming, or it's community. They like to tell us what's "in", but frankly they have not a slightest clue what a current in is. Or what it will be in near future. Instead of giving studios freedom to create good games, they create conveyor belts pumping out another forgettable summer blockbuster that nobody will care about next day. It's clear by now that those who innovate, and just follow creative vision make games that have impact. Impact on players, on gaming in general. They leave a long lasting footprint, those are the games people are looking at for inspiration to make more good games.
My ramble probably went on a bit of a tangent...But I'm just sick of suits being in command of whole gaming industry, and constantly steering it into the ditch.

Yes, there are indie (and "indie") RPGs that still do it right. And I LOVE all of them. But big AAA titles can't afford this, anymore. At least that's how I see it. It's sad what the industry was reduced to, but it's true.

I still trust Bethesda to learn from their mistakes and make a compelling product that is worthy of my time and money.

Some of their more questionable design choices are down to simple blunders and miscalculations rather than crass pandering to the lowest common denominator.

No chance of that. If you follow their paper thin plots you'll be done in 10 hours. Of course you may still want to see a doctor for that. :)

That's what modding is for. :) I've sunk hundreds of hours into Skyrim and New Vegas and Fallout 4.
