Gratitude Thread

Greetings Commanders! Upon returning from a month long exploration trip, I had an unexpected experience after I docked at Jamison. Unexpected, because I thought I would be returning to a game that wasn't fun anymore (yes I know exploration is part of the game, but I think you know what I mean). I jump in my Cutter and head out to my favorite passenger taxi route. On the way, I notice the starport on my hud. I see it change orientation in relation to my position, and for some reason I can't get over how cool that is (uh, I'm 20 years sober, so that's not why😏). My mind wanders into wondering how the hell you even program something like that, and that is something so small that I've grown to overlook it. I then break out of hyperdrive, dock, then hear "Welcome to have you aboard Commander", and smile. Maybe I've been out there too long. Maybe I've allowed my gaming experience to be affected by the incessant negative feedback on these boards. Maybe I'm just grateful to be engaged in a game that has captured my interest for YEARS and supported by incredible programmers and community. Anyway, I'm grateful for Elite Dangerous.

It is a hell of a thing they've built.
Getting my pewpew on in a HazRES, winged up with some other Cmdrs, some of whom have SLFs, and we're engaged with a wing of Conda/FGS/FAS (and their SLF), and everyone is letting loose with the dakka or sizzle or ordinance, experimental weapon effects in play; 3D sfx so the explosions & boost sounds are all in the right places; the scanner is a chaotic mess of swirling bobbing triangles; an NPC wondering What treats do you carry?; and still, in the middle of all of this, when I roll the ship in the star light, the shadow from the canopy frame plays across the cockpit exactly as it should.

Playing ED as explorer with my 5 yr old is a blast! Every new system we jump to is like 'what are we going to find/are we the first ones there's. New stars, planets, and stories we invent about them totally engages with his imagination. We found a new earthlike world the otherday and was thrilled his tag as explorer would be associated with it in game. Hasn't stopped making Lego spaceships to really explore it yet (hint, hint devs can we land on earthlikes please).

Nb. 5 year olds think all new systems are exciting so don't use them as navigators if you don't like icy moons etc

I can't bring myself to complain about a game I've chosen to play every day for three years. It must be doing something right

Come on, that is a very defeatist outlook on the game. Evidently you don't follow the forums, not only must you complain about everything, you don't even have to play the game to have the GOD GIVEN RIGHT to demand FDev change the game to your specific requirements.

The preceding statement was of course uttered with tongue placed firmly in the left cheek. :D

+1

What about the amazing sound department ?
Too many effects to mention, for example the eerie noises at certain platforms :)
