PC games with a great story narrative?

I have already pre-ordered Vampyr. Not a massive fun of that setting since it was cheesied by Twilight, Diaries and other Buffies, but since it's DontNod (plus I've watched a few videos and liked what I was seeing), I'm hoping for a dark, serious setting and a good gameplay. Last good vampire game I played was Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines.

Remember Me - didn't click. I may come back to that game. Didn't know it was also made by those guys.

They are also working on Life is Strange 2 apparently.

Another story-rich game series is Shadowrun series. I played 2 out of 4 games and the story lines were really well written. It's a weird mix of fantasy, SF and cyberpunk, so it may be strange to get used to, but once you accept the setting and focus on the story, they're really amazing games to play.

I can also recommend Dishonored 1 and 2 - one of the best story lines in video gaming in the recent years.

Uhh yeah, that one has been staring at me for a long time.....

Remember Me was a hit and miss with people. Mainly because it was badly marketed and gamers expected a Cyberpunk Tomb Raider but got a fighting/platformer adventure.
But I really liked the combat system and the story is phenomenal so it does belong to my favourites I tend to return to, from time to time. But it's definitely not for everybody.

I didn't know about LiS2 being made. I hope you mean a proper sequel and not the recent spin-off. I wholeheartedly hated Chloe in the original game so the "Before the Storm" doesn't really interest me. :D

No, it's actually a proper sequel, Life is Strange 2.

Many "walking sims" have great stories but the gameplay and pacing makes it very unique, so it's definitely not for everyone.

Check out What Remains of Edith Finch of you really like a good story. The Vanishing of Ethan Carter is also great (and one of my all time favourite games).

Other games with great storylines for PC are Mass Effect 1 & 2, SOMA, Life is Strange, Gone Home and Fire Watch.

So many great suggestions in thread I struggled to come up with something else but did. There is a little known game called Hostile Waters. Epic.
Here is the intro..

Yeah a great story in this game. I just bought it again on steam yesterday!
Love the vocabulary and dialogue. Plus the individual units stories and personalities are cool.

Its had a name change to Antaeus Rising but worth it for the price of a beer.

The last SP game I finished was Titanfall 2, and man I really enjoyed the story (and have seen the PC edition on sale for $5)

Reminded me of the old classic Shogo, also a Mech/FPS game with a great story.

I'm also a fan of Destiny 1 & 2 Single player and Co-op. Despite what the internet says, I've enjoyed playing the SP story through more than once.

Just finished Life is Strange. It's a 5-chapter adventure game. It begins with what may look like your standard teenagers-and-their-problems cheesy tale, but quickly escalates into an amazing story centered around time travel and moral choices.

Loved it!

This Steam Review summarises the game perfectly for me:

Episode 1: typical teen school drama

Episode 2: uhmmm.... wha..?

Episode 3: What. The. Hell.

Episode 4: WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA?!

Episode 5: I'm... Sorry.

On a slightly more serious note: I cannot thank you enough, Dontnod. GOTY.

Ok guys, I've just finished Mafia II, great story I really enjoyed playing it, these type of games are really like playing a movie.
However I find that it's very difficult to find a good game where the story is great including the voice acting.

So I need some suggestions of what other game that are out there i can play with a good story.

If you care about this you need a PS4, Last of Us, God of War, and Horizon Zero Dawn alone are easily worth it.

An oldie but still fantastic - The Longest Journey

This was great and to add to it; the Syberia series too. A bit like the Longest Journey in some ways. Games like these hark back in the puzzling elements to the Lucasarts classics like the Monkey Island series, Day of the Tentacle and the (still amazing) Indiana Jones And The Fate Of Atlantis. That last one still rocks!

Thief 1, 2 and possibly 3 are also worth a look. Sneaky freeform with an interesting story.

Forget the reboot - it's kacked underwear.

Oooh yes! The Thief games were wonderful, tense and downright scary at times! Also, there is the Dark Mod, a homage to those 3 original stealth games totally free on Mod DB and has loads of missions, each with it's own story....

Some good suggestion there, one I already played was LA Noire, I really like the pace and the story.

SOMA is another good game where the story carries the player through and keeps you playing it.

Ah, another great story is Amnesia: The Machine for Pigs. It's a horror style game, so may not be for everyone, but it's very well made.

Also, why nobody mentioned The Witcher games yet? :D

Well, maybe because they are already recognized as great on this very forum :D

Grand Theft Auto 5 has a great story as well. Most people see GTA as "shoot at everything and more" game, but it's actually absolutely mind blowing satire on our reality + the story is very well written with memorable characters. Quite deep if you get into it.

Sleeping Dogs is another one, I really enjoyed the story in that one.

Oh, also: Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons is an absolute gem, when it comes to storytelling. Not a single word is uttered during the entire game, even in the cutscenes and yet somehow it can convey the story in most amazing way. I highly recommend this one. It's a coop platformer game, which doesn't sound like a story rich game, but... you'll be surprised.

I'd have to recommend Subnautica.

There's another game I loved, a little short but story was good but I can't remember the name

Fire something - you're a firewarden and you're always on the radio to Delilah - Fire Watch?
