General / Off-Topic PSA: Frontier is hiring a lot of people for Elite Dangerous and a new game.

In the Principal Animation Systems Programmer position you can see it being described:

There are some positions that are meant specifically for Elite, like the Principal Network Programmer, but most of them are flexible between all their games.

I don't know man, it'd be odd to begin programming ED II when the current one doesn't seem to be close to finished. IMO it refers to a new game that has little to do with ED, maybe a remasterization of another videogame.

Surely this is just for JWE? Upcoming AAA title for high profile franchise with global database? That's JWE.

No, JWE is almost done, so many of these new jobs will be for the 4th global IP game coming after JW. The game is still secret so they can't state it's IP in the job description. If it was for JW or Elite it would just say so like the others do.

Great find and very interesting read - now the question is in two year will FDev release something "at the forefront of visual quality in games... a title that everyone will be talking about when the time comes."?

That's a high bar!

Yes these words of Frontier are strong

And we notice in the post of the OP, these words from Frontier : "This is a very high profile franchise, which enjoys a global fanbase"

There's only one problem: I *think* I remember hearing that they, like many other infected software companies, use SCRUM. Which is great if you subscribe to that religion. However if you refuse to drink the kool-aid, then it's a terrible amount of overhead, and a huge danger of architectural decisions being made by committee or by someone who has no sufficient grasp on the subject.

Estimation poker... *shudder*

The real question is "who got sacked?"

Nah I doubt anyone got fired.

It’s far more likely that they moved some experienced people from Elite over to the new mystery IP and are hiring new employees to replace them. Put the experienced devs on the new game, put the newbies on the old Elite game. For JW they are finishing it up now but also probably working on the future content already, thus hiring more people to bolster it up.

Frontier is growing, so naturally they will have to hire too.

Why is it that people automatically think the worst. Could it be that someone left for another job and they need to refill that position. That's what normally happens.

If it's true to an extent, maybe it's still a silver lining. Fresh new people to work on the game with new enthusiasm and perspectives. Maybe even a current forum member gets hired. After all, some of the complaint posts have called for a change in dev staff for ED..

Maybe even be able to convince the team that CQC is an embarrassment which needs excising from the game and exiled as a free-to-play arcade game to maybe draw people into buying Elite Dangerous. ;)

There does seem to be far too much reading into job adds. :) Even if they had good staff retention, a company Frontier's size would need to replace at least 20 staff or so a year.
