Community Alert : Lack of Content & variety & S3 - 2018

[Trigger warning for people who can't handle condescending, ironic and sarcastic remarks ]

Elite Dangerous is a large mathematical driven simulation of our Galaxy (stellar forge) and the humans who live within in (bgs).
And these models dip into Content and asset pool for art for stations, surface installations, missions, NPC's.

Our only interactions are the game mechanics and loops that we have, and our progress is measured by Progress Bar's and unlocks to ships that do the same things as the ship you have just with different stats.

The missions are repetitive, the game loops are repetitive, the art is repetitive. I have large shopping lists of collecting items.

There is no Content and nothing to do..........

YES YOU ARE CORRECT IF YOU THINK LIKE THAT!!!!

Seriously, do we need another 10 posts per day on that?

"But I've seen it all", people whine, "there is nothing new, FDEV need to do something about this, it's all Sandy's fault we need David Braben back."

https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2015/03/12/david-braben-on-fan-anger-interview/
From Braben's own mouth 3 months after launch.
That’s not to say that there wasn’t things we wanted to do with it, I’m still proud of the game we released. It worked as a holistic whole, and we’ve had a lot of people commenting who’ve played the game for more than a thousand hours. Saying, oh, they feel they’ve seen everything. And they probably have.

The main gameplay beats, designed and worked well, for those who didn't grind the crap out of them.
But they were only every designed to be used X-amount of hours.
They polished as well as they could, and had time-sinks to make stuff last until the next big dose of content.
Which the grinders consumed within weeks.

But now we are 3 years in.
And these things (despite SLF's, passengers, Thargoid, burning stations, etc etc) are wearing thin.

No one is desputing you on that.
In Fact, there is a group of people Called FRONTIER who agree with you,

not only do we have Braben stating that 3 months after launch (and the plan was to always add content as the game matured).

FRONTIER have planned a whole YEAR of updates for 2018 to upgrade new content, tools and mechanics to expand, fill-out our existing mechanics and content for the Core Careers.

And people still feel a need to complain about this, as I assume they feel like nothing is getting done.
By this I mean, nothing visible that is being promoted by FDev, and even so, it doesn't count until the content is in the players Hands, because it's the existing gameplay they just exited from that matters in the "now".

Do I need to complain about lack of content, and that I feel the game is repetitive boring or lacking something in my favourite gameplay choice.

Go for it, I'm not going to deny you your free choice, but just so you understand, WE ALL KNOW.The forum knows.David Braben Knows.Frontier knows.
You are correct, and I understand you want to get it off your chest.

Instead, do yourself a favour by helping the game develop.

So instead of concentrating on what we know, help us out on what we don't!
You might have an angle that is unique to you.
And mayber You might not have a unique idea, but that doesn't matter because it strengthens the NEED for that idea to be included.

If you Think missions are just destroy/collect/transport [2units x Combat/Trade rank * faction rep] "
Then write about missions skillset and how they should progress to give players challenges.

Let me get you started.

If you think the game at the micro level factions should have a pool of npc's, cosmetic items and should deliver better services to the player.

Got some cool Idea's for Combat, Trading, Pirating, Exploration
(even Ghost Girafe's point on the colliding moon, echo'd what Frontier Claimed they wanted to do for exploration by having unique stellar events to make exploration more intereting)

That Being Said : About Chapter 2
Q2 content was probably locked down, already as The first chapter of beyond was shipped.
And with only 6-12 weeks for people to hit summer holidays, you can bet your backside, Chapter 2, is being worked on for release before the summer.

And again this won't be the whole shopping bag of features, just the ones that will create most value for most customers.
Will there be features and ideas that don't make the cut? of course!!
Can they be added in later on? Of course.

BUT again, this content will only have a set X-amount of hours before it gets stale, again.
So take it easy. Mix up your gameplay-style.

Just fer a minute, lets just assume that if players feel frontier are ignoring them, then what exactly would be the point in wasting time suggesting features and ideas which they will undoubtedly ignore? But they do ignore us...so why would making suggestions be any different? It would be the very defintion of wasting time, would it not?

Communication is a two way street, not a one way street...and while the status quo remains thus, then I fail to see what the point would be. Things could change of course, but that change needs to come from frontier...anything less is just not gonna cut the mustard...its gone beyond that point now ^

If noone tells them something sucks, how will they know? People engineer their ships even though they don't like the process. If the just look at participation rates engineers probably looked quite good.

I think people is actually upset and tired by now not because the content fdevs add with each update is not infinite and can entertain the userbase only for x number of hours, but because it takes a very, very long time to deliver for very little gain.

We had to wait YEARS for the aliens to pop up in the galaxy, and once they do it's the same 2 interactions rinse and repeat ad infinitum until you want to toss the game out of the window. YEARS to have a proper C&P system and once it's added to the game it's glitchy, disjointed, convoluted, way too harsh. We had to wait 6 months for our srvs to not randomly explode or fall through planets.

It's taking so long to have anything delivered in this game it feels to me like they're almost doing us a favor and a bit reluctantly too.

Beyond are free updates!™
No they're not, they're QoL that should have been there from the beginning. C&P should have been there since the community goal were added back in the day, a general chat for your guild/squadron should have been there since wings in 1. what it was, something to actually do and discover on planets beside shooting at rocks placeholder activity should have been there with 2.0 at launch.

You don't deliver a car without the engine and then after a few years say "Hey, I remember I've sold you a car a few years back, here's an engine I'll toss in for free are you happy now".

Absolutely agree with you Commander as my personal frustration with ED is caused by precisely this and the pace of development dont make me very optimistic for the games future. To be honest I`m still around ED because there is literally no alternatives for this type of space game.

I will be more sarcastic than you ... Chapter 2 is ONLY about Krait. You can quote me here. I am sure of it. Maybe new guardian modules...

But we all know Q2 and Q3 will be minor update so I am not complaining here.

The fact that people send very good suggestions is not new ... I see plenty of them around the forum. But what's disappointing me the most: is the lack of feedback from Frontier. And i don't speak about feature or mission or C&P...

Simple example. Look the paintjobs topic...Frontier didn't take full hands on it. Why ? why not saying something or at least contacting the commander to see if they can include his job on the game ?

The Q2 will be maybe also fixing all the Q1 that wasn't fix yet. But i am ok with this. I still enjoy the game the way it is. I am a fan.

No they're not,
Actually they are, the baseline environment was more than playable.

they're QoL that should have been there from the beginning.
Highly subjective and Debatable - IMO the changes are welcome but are far from a necessity. ED is not the first product to evolve without further cost to the customer and still get moaned about despite that.

IMO the vast majority of threads like this can be summed up as whining from the entitled who have little or no grasp on the realities of product development.

Correction: Apologies to the OP for misreading the thread, skim read the OP while playing ED. After re-reading the initial post I realise you were complaining about the complainers - I do however think the OP was a long-winded way of making your point.

But then what would those same 11 people do if they couldn’t come here and plaster their insightful complaints over and over again? Play the game or *gasp* play something else more worthy of their time?

And at what point paying customer can voice his/her dissatisfaction with the product he/shy purchased with out being entitled whiner? :)
Lets take the base environment (sans Horizons) as a reference point - Essentially, what was delivered with V1.0 was a full and complete product in it's own right. Sure there may have been areas that could be improved but ultimately it delivered on an environment that is essentially worth the ~30 UKP (or local equivalent) price tag. All improvements beyond that that have been delivered for the base product have been done at no additional cost.

It is one thing to make specific and direct "constructive" complaints or request certain "specific" improvements in a constructive way - it is another thing to complain about the pace of delivery of extra content or additional changes that are being delivered at no further cost to the customer. It is also another thing to go into long-winded whines about what additional content has been delivered for free.

I'd like to get another thousand hours or a few out of this yet, flying space ships doesn't feel quite right in other games. Thanks.
That is your choice of course, but don't expect any sympathy (nor expect people to stay silent) if you start engaging in entitled whining. ;)

Facts are simple:
Three years.

Numbers grind, progress bars, shooting rocks, bug ridden base missions and horde mode. That's all we got for interaction.

The VAST majority of the purchase base has moved on.

Outside these forums and the censored subreddit, you cannot find an article on this game that is not LITTERED with comments asking "but where is the game play?"

Those are the FACTS of this situation.
