General / Off-Topic Down with summer.

If you passed out here you'd just get third degree burns from the pavement. ;)

Now where I live we actually have *two* distinct summers. There is May-July and July-September. The first half of the summer it's super hot and dry, with nary a cloud in sight. That's the part of the summer I really don't like. Doesn't help that all the palo verde trees are dumping blossoms and allergies are through the roof.

The second half - the monsoon season - now we're talkin'. Seasonal rains move in and we get a fair mount of moisture. When the rains are in full swing we may get a thunderstorm at least once a day that rolls through and cools everything down. The moist air blowing past the creosote gives the desert a wonderful smell.

The only downside is trying to drive home when the washes are flooding. :D

Ive always has a thing for deserts, The serenity of them has always appealed to me. Ive hiked and biked through the Atacama desert in Chile and it was by far one of the most beautiful and peaceful places ive ever visited. I love warm climates and as much as i love Blighty i hate this country during the winter, its wet, cold and brutal some times.

2 Summers sounds good to me. You should count your blessings.

Norfolk in the summer.
My happy time.

Harden up; our summers here in AU can reach 40 degrees in the metropolitan areas and we have no AC. Some have to work in the heat too!

There's actually a saying that the more you're exposed to a specific environment; the more your body adapts to it and becomes resistant to its effects.

I start to think it's a bit hot here when the temps reach 45 centigrade plus........ no AC here either; I actually don't like AC.

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.

Yes, serenity is a good way of putting it. Despite my moaning about the heat I do really love the desert.

As for Norfolk - I had the pleasure of visiting there in March this year. :) Those pics are very nice. I'd love to visit again sometime.... if T.J. isn't sick of hosting me. lol.

so the lesson must be, don't build your house close to a volcano....

loads of water in those cactuses, I love the desert, but it can be very cold and very hot, i like it when the temperature is more even all day and night.

The temperature swing every 24 hours can be extreme, yeah. :)

Yes; deserts are wonderful and we have some magnificent ones here. Because our climate is so harsh though most people live around the coastline..........

Yeah, not fan of a summer, either. Anything above 20 degrees makes me slightly uncomfortable. Anything about 30 makes me angry.
Plus insects. I hate mosquitoes with the entirety of my heart.

I'm in the north of South Sudan at the moment. It's 43oC and we've had rain storms overnight so the humidity is topped out. There are insects here the likes of which I've never imagined and they all like to bite.

You'd hate it here :)

I hate even reading about it. :D

I totally love summer the best! Today is absolutely perfect out here in Southeastern Missouri, USA. 90°F with 40% humidity and a light breeze. Everything is greening up and looking awesome.

Shut down the computer and go play outside!!

No tan lines. :D
