Disappointment

Please allow me to step in for a moment. I’ve only read James the OP’s first post – will go through the walls of texts of the replies at a later time.

I strongly agree with James that we shouldn’t settle for anything less than the best game possibly made. At least we should work hard on our ends to provide useful feedbacks. On this end, I do support James’s main 4 points. Particularly with the day/night cycle and basic enclosure decorations.

For the day/night cycle, besides as an option, I would go further to advocate the flexibility of choosing any two/more time of the day and the durations of both the fixed part and the transition part. For instance, morning for 30 mins (actual time), transition for 5 mins, dusk for 20 mins then transition again for 10 mins. If this can be made possible, I think it’ll pretty much satisfy everyone imagination.

For basic enclosure decorations, same as James, I do not ask for much – just some very basic stuffs will do.

Finally to mention a little of my personal priorities, as said earlier many times – I will BUY the game on spot as soon as I see a PROPER fix of interaction animation. For many of the other things I requested for, I just hope Frontier will really continue to listen to us (especially after we’ve played the game ourselves) and continue to improve the game along the way.

You know, now that I think of it, I'll take Dropping's genuine concern and criticism of JWE over people refusing to buy the game simply because the dinosaurs don't have feathers or that Mosasaurus isn't in the game (yes I've encountered someone like this). I'll take genuine criticism that can be discussed any dang day of the week.

It is important that people like you recognise that I'm not here just to stir up trouble. I'm here because I really do care about this game and I'd like to talk to like-minded people about it.

I can't hide that I've been really disappointed with a lot of design choices but I'm also really conscious of the fact that I don't want to spoil anyone else's experience. As I said, if you're happy with it, thats great and Im happy FOR you!

Firstly, the concerns raised in the OP are appropriate in my opinion.

By the way, nice to see you back in action on this forum Droppings. I feel like you haven't been here for a while. Some of the concerns mentioned in the OP are also concerns I share and things I want. Now, they may not be as significant for me as for you, but to each their own. I completely agree that Nublar should have an option for turning off unlimited funds/research. In fact, I am a big fan of choices in any game and I do hope that Frontier does give us choices and a proper day/night cycle. But I wouldn't go so far as to say that I'm not buying it for those reasons. I have waited 15 years for this game and I'm not gonna let a few missing things hinder my enjoyment. There are sooo many good things in this game that I know I will have a blast playing it, with or without the mentioned features. But that's just me. I completely understand where you're coming from.

I do agree in some of these points.
I don't think i'll ever be disappointed in this game, since all i asked for was even a simple JPOG remaster, and this game seems to be much more.
IMO, there should be more decorations, both natural, like rocks and logs and different plants, and artificial. Vehicles should be destructible, and maybe a couple more rides won't hurt.
With that said, i'm incredibly satisfied of what i'm getting. Keep also in mind there will be patches and DLCs coming out and, since Frontier seems to listen to the comunity, most of those issues will be fixed.
I think giving fair criticism like this is something good. I agree that the nitpicks and some complaints of (especially) Reddit are annoying and useless (i've seen people unironically complain about the lack of a Battle Royale mode...yeah), but we should also not just defend some flaws like "No, they said no so it won't happen". Because of course it won't happen if nobody points out the flaws.

Thank you man! The suggestions you made for the day/night cycle I like very much. If weather and the probability of breakouts is customizable, day/night should be also.

As I've said, if you're happy then I'm happy. I really do hope you love this game.

I hope I love the game for that matter haha

Yes it has been a while! It's good to be back (you were always one of my favs haha)

I guess I have been disappointed by quite a few things I've found out about the game but I hope that doesn't affect anyone else opinion. As I said, this wasn't an attempt to change anyones opinion, it was to start a discussion and perhaps there are a few people who feel the same. I just the hate the idea of everyone pretending that everything is fine and then the game comes out and is horrible (which I strongly doubt will happen).

Thanks for the feedback in this thread! Please make sure to keep it constructive, as well as respectful towards your other forum members :) - that'd be most helpful!

Just to answer some common things in here:
- On Isla Nublar you do have the options to set the weather and there are presets for different times of day (noon, dusk, and night).
- Whilst we see that some people are asking for a JP:OG-style challenge mode, it's not something that will be in the game at launch. The Career mode is the challenge of the game, with Isla Nublar as sandbox there to let you freeform with buildings and dinosaurs you've already unlocked. It's something we might look into after launch, but it's currently not in the planning.

Hope this clarifies!!

"Why does ANY game have a day/night cycle?"

To create and aesthetic change, inhibit visibility and give a false of immersion for intervals of about 20 minutes. Though this is most apparent in open world games, where day/night cycles have more or less become a fundamental aspect to create what feels to be a real world without seams. But even then, I feel like there's a point where you stop caring. Less can be said for park builders. Not to mention parks close down in the night. Is a day/night cycle really that vital of an aspect, or is it just something you want and are unhappy you're not getting?

I have no more arguments against the JPOG style campaign mode for Nublar, because having the option for stuff like that (namely an off switch for unlimited moolah) is a fundamental aspect of park builders and sandboxes this genre.

"That is a complete mischaracterisation of what I was saying and you have literally proven my point in doing so."

Again, that was me just being cheeky, playful, kidding around a bit to lighten the mood. But even so, why be sad about people who are happy for something? Because it's not exactly what they wanted? I mean, yeah that kind of sucks, but they're okay with meeting in the middle, even if you don't think they should have. And like I said, I think it's because they're happy with having something rather than nothing in terms of the power to change time, because previously we thought we would have nothing.

"Its clearly a subjective list of wanted features/design choices and who are you to determine whats worthy of its own point?"

I'm just a guy with an opinion who is voicing it, just as you are. Our voice doesn't make either of our beliefs any more true or absolute. It doesn't mean they bear any weight on each other or Frontier, not if we don't let it. I am only as worthy as you allow me to be. Nit-picks generally aren't that important. That's why they're called nit-picks; that's why they're often frowned upon in discussions like this. And so I ask this question again: are floodlights really that vital of an aspect, or is it just something you want and are unhappy you're not getting?

Those aspects that are vital to the game, those are what I want to discuss. I haven't an ounce of care for floodlights. I would forget about them quickly. I've never even seen them as a complaint from this community until now. But I'll happily talk about vital aspects. The AI for example. Half the time it seems amazing, the other half it's incredibly worrisome. AI performance is a fundamental aspect to nearly all video games nowadays. I can't imagine you've gotten much discussion out of the lack of floodlights. I can't imagine you ever will, and there's a reason for that.

And maybe my thoughts are biased, but then this does stem from discussing your own subjective desires. Welcome to opinions, can I take your order?

Thanks Bo.

Whilst I'm not super happy with those design choices, I appreciate what you guys are trying to do.

I would like to add, my push for asking whether or not your desires are vital aspects is due to the notion you believe that these are inexcusable flaws, and some of them are. But not floodlights (again, me being cheeky. Sort of.)

I believe you may or may not have gone insane. Shouldn't you be asleep?

If some of them are inexcusable flaws, why are you attempting to excuse them?

I stopped excusing them, because you are in the right with those in particular. I feel like the freedom to create from scratch parks separate from traditional campaign and sandbox modes (i.e. JPOG style) to be a vital aspect of the park building genre, and to not have that freedom to be inexcusable.

BUT as much as I want to keep responding, please say goodnight to me so I feel obligated to leave. ;-; don't want to actually go insane.

HA HA! So I have brought you over to the dark-side haha.

My mission is now complete. Goodnight sir! Sleep well.

Many people want it so I'd say you'll hopefully look into it after launch. Once you're done with aquatic/flying dino DLCs of course [big grin]

And now the forums have finally turned into reddit honestly I think the op is being way to critical of the game. Yes there are features that aren't in the game but it is not the end of the world. This game was NEVER ment fo have the levels of detail for any customization that other games do, but how often can you can you get a game based off one of the best franchises ever made? I personally think the op may need to take a break and focus on something non game related to try to clear their mind.
