Yes, it would make all the difference in the world. I'd actually take an interest again and so would thousands of others.
I have no idea. You don't see "OPEN PLAY: OVER xx,xxx COMMANDERS" touted around anywhere.
Doesn't change it being a pointless grind race though does it?
And it remains to be seen how many people take an interest again and if so, for how long.
I can imagine a fair number signing up, excited about it being open only, start doing the fortification and stuff and then go "Oh right, i remember why i quit in the first place".![]()
That's because they don't have a factual and provable metric opposed to Mobius PvE which can be proven with the sheer amount of membership alone.
Reddit on the other hand is easily disproven based on the fact that anyone, whether a customer and have bought this game or not can create an account there.
Nuff said.
You are right. I have been pirated several times and have enjoyed the ones involving roleplay.Mostly because it is fun to see other commanders. I personally strongly dislike approach that you have to fight with every other player, because it is 'fun'. No, context is fun. If you are trader, and I am pirate, and we both fulfil our roles, it will be fun encounter.
Most games can be considered "pointless", by some metrics. The challenge, risk, and resulting excitement of doing otherwise grindy activities in open, where you may face legitimate opposition, can make them feel less grindy.Doesn't change it being a pointless grind race though does it?

Having someone else to interact with. It’s a big place and NPCs are trash. The only hope of having some form of a living galaxy is us. I’m usually happy just to get an o7 back honestly.
Do you have reason to suspect that GroundxZERO is likely to kill some random CMDR "for the lolz"?What he forgets to mention is also the chance to be able to blow you up for the lolz.
Come to open so i can kill you and steal your cargo.
Sorry I meant steal your cargo then kill you.

See, I don't understand this ... if you and thousands of others want PP to be played in Open then why aren't you doing it now? You could all be targets for each other then.

These little concepts I like to call "innocent until proven guilty", and, "it's rude to make baseless defamatory accusations."Do you have any proof to say otherwise?
Within the context of the recent announcement, people generally only want you in open if you're partaking in powerplay activities, such as undermining their systems, fortifying systems they're trying to undermine, or preparing expansions into systems they'd rather not have your power in.
If those activities function in solo/pg, then powerplay boils down to a pointless grind-race against invisible enemies.
While time zones, platforms, and instances may make a given CMDR invisible to another given CMDR, it doesn't make the CMDR invisible to everyone. They can still be directly opposed by other people in their time zone / platform / whatever. This is quite different from solo / PG, where one can ensure that NOBODY can oppose them. There will still be those "invisible enemies" - Sandro's proposal doesn't eliminate the triumvirate of other barriers to "encounters" - platform, time zone and instancing.
Personally, I think Sandro's suggestion is just a move to get more combat going so as to make the game attractive to people who might buy a shoot-em-up. I really don't see it making a huge difference to PP.
