Modes Why do you want me in Open?

I want you in Open so that if you're undermining Mahon, myself or my fellow Mahon supporters can blow you up.

If you don't do Powerplay then I really don't care what mode you are in.

Perhaps open PP won't make all actions counter-able by me PERSONALLY, but that's not the point. The point is they can be opposed by SOMEONE. Chances are, a given power will have players in all timezones, and on all platforms. I may not be able to see and oppose 100%'of my opponents, but the power as a team, will.

As it does now - or do you really think that it's only the opposing team that is playing in solo, where you allegedly can't hinder them? Isn't it much more likely that roughly the same amount from your team is doing the exact same thing? Didn't David Braben himself state that it balances itself out? Everyone who wants to do PP in open already does and making it open only will imo only hasten it's demise (Personally I think PP was DOA, anyway).

Whilst I appreciate we're skirting the edges of the OP scope, nothing in my post directly related to Open Only Power Play. I'm talking about a specific feature to encourage consensual, meaningful PvP which I would want in order to discourage (or indeed, allow more draconian measures against) non-consensual PvP.

Where would your proposal leave those of my noble profession?

(Which is the graceful art of space-lane robbery, for the unacquainted)

The fact that it is probably numerically even between sides isn't the issue. The issue is that it makes for lame MMO gameplay. When your only weapon is a spreadsheet, it reeks of design mistake. Hopefully FD rectifies it.

PP was DOA because it never reached it's intended goal of meaningful player interaction/opposition because of the option of easy mode in solo/PG. If it didn't have unique modules it would tie CQC as the worst game addition of all time.

The only reason to play in open is to gank the gankers (i fyou want not to be one of them)

Join one of this groups/wings learn from them, get help to optimise your ships and credits.
Have fun.
If you dont like it, for any reason, you can still chose Mobius.

There is no reason to play a trader or discoverer in open alone.

This may come as a shock, but some people like the thrill and excitement of a possible challenge. Trading in solo or mobius may be more efficient, but neither offers the potential challenge, risk, and excitement of open.

To bad the risk of Open isn't for everyone. Only those that chose to fly a non combat ship, face any real risk.

If I fly a flimsy smuggling ship in open, I sometimes get that little exiting feeling.
In a combat ship, I don't get any of that. I know that the worst thing that could happen, is that I have to hi-wake.

The strength of player combat ships make the risk/reward argument moot.

It certainly varies from person to person. Different strokes for different folks and all. Some people don't WANT excitement in a game, anyway, and are looking for a more relaxed experience. The points I was countering though were, "there is NO reason to play trader in open", and, "The ONLY reason to play in open is to gank the gankers."

As for me, even if I'm in a combat ship, I anyways get a bad case of the butterflies and shaky paws when it looks like a fight with a CMDR could possibly break out. Quite thrilling. :3

I didn't know hi waking was only available to combat ships. TIL. Oh wait.....I'm here to tell you trade ships can load up on defenses to survive.

If the heat is really hot, use a smuggler speed build. Tactics are more useful than crying in this space game.

Either you believe you can, or you believe you can't. Either way you are correct.

PvP combat can of course be exiting. It still seem that there is always plent of time to bail, if things go south.
I always seem to find my self in combat ships that are well above the requirement to escape, but not quite good enough to fight.
Not that anyone really tries to harm me but in my head, I'm prepared to hi-wake.

Oh yeah. Escape is generally very possible if you're careful, and in a well equipped ship. I tend fight down to the last shred of ship though, so escape is not quite as assured!

To clear it up, i mean flying alone.
But ofc if you have fun in running, its up to you.

You misunderstand.
I don't mind the risk of flying anything. I just think defenses should be caped way lower for combat ships as well.
I don't want less risk for traders in any other way than that combat ships should also be weaker.

No one needs more defense that an engineered shield and engineered armour can give you. The rest is OP and only reduces the number of fights where the result is determined by skill.

No, no, no, no, no, no, no... This is all about 'fixing' PP (wink, wink), not creating targets for people. You've got it entirely backwards. The only reason PP isn't currently a mecca for amazing PvP with a purpose is because people who aren't interested in it aren't doing it.

I have to say that the current new ideas about PP have made my interest go form 0 to..... 0 - Maybe when they spend 6 months on it and revamp it to something interesting and challenging I might like it.

I agree entirely. The ridiculous amount of health afforded by stacking defense modules is one of the bigger balance issues in the game, as far as combat goes.
