News Bonus Weekend: Trade & Engineering - Now live! (24/05 to 30/05)

Hello there,

Thank you for the feedback! Grade 5 material requirements for engineering should have reduced by one rank, so it seems like it hasn't occured for Shield Boosters. We've informed the team so we can get that corrected as soon as possible.

If Commanders out there discover any other engineerings recipes that are still showing normal material requirements, please let us know.

We'll be listening to feedback and making tweaks here and there to ensure that this is the best event it can possibly be!

Fast Kill Wake Scanners, grade 5.

To those who still don't understand what's happened, here's my personal take and explanation:

1. Frontier's initial announcement made me think (correctly) that each individual material required by a blueprint would be downgraded by one tier along that material's row in the Mat Trader.

2. A subsequent post by an employee made me think (wrongly) that each entire blueprint would simply move down to the blueprint below.

Many others thought the same, at least about Item 2.

I'm fine with it truly being Item 1 as I originally anticipated, even though this will be far less convenient in terms of plotting mat requirements, particularly (eg) using EDEngineer App.

However I just gathered the mats in anticipation. Those who actually traded them in anticipation are understandably frustrated.

Overall there seems to have been a small though unfortunate ambiguity/error in communication.

Does anyone know if the "passenger missions" is affected by the Bonus weekend ? As in less passenger and more rewards ?

I chose to do absolutely nothing in preparation for this event. ...And that was the correct choice. \o/

Purchased a beluga earlier, and was interested to see (now we have engineering) if I could prevent it from going on fire everytime I boost or jump to the next system. ...Achieved that to some degree with much thermal spread type special effects to the power-plant, shields, and clean drives.
It took over five hours from start to finish for the full monty. ....yawn!

Flimley

Edit: There are 5 ranks for materials (as can be seen in the Material Trader) and 5 ranks for engineering recipes, and these are two different ranks. This bonus relates to the rank of materials, not the rank of engineering recipes. The cost for engineering a module at Grade 5 will use Grade 4 equivalent materials, not the materials seen in Grade of the engineering recipe of that same module. We have made the changes ingame to reflect the bonus, what you see ingame right now is what you need for engineering a module during this bonus period.

Oh my God i think i will be sick from laughing today!!

Hello everyone,

We have updated the OP for added clarity:

The rank reduction wasn't made explicit before the event despite multiple people highlighting the perceived benefit in the main thread.
And when was this reality communicated to the communication team?

Sadly another event messed up. You couldn't write it!
Stag party and brewery springs to mind.

Where is the trading bonus FDev?

I have been looking at trade wing missions, and performing some calculations from trades that I have performed yesterday before the "supposed" bonus.

The best trade bonus that I have found today is just 1000CR more for ton.

Is this a joke?

How do you dare to announce it as a trade bonus?

I'm a player with more than 1000 hours played, I already have some top tier post-beyond engineered ships. And I ve told to me: "Hey Bre4k, is your chance to unlock this left 60% of your last trade Elite rank".

But nope!

Thank you Fdev.

From a disapponted player.

What's done is done. Adapt and overcome. I checked the new Mats requirements at Inara. I went to a mats trader and traded a some level 5 mats for a lot of lesser level mats and I am making the rounds upgrading several of my ships. Take this opportunity to make the best if this offer.

No Will there are 5 GRADES for materials.
That's a fact. You can check by playing the game.
Right panel. Inventory. Materials.
Description next to materials identify 5 GRADES.
EA SPORTS! It's in the game!

I love the game and the dev Team. But this whole Bonus Weekend is a mess....

Next time, show us an example for the changes. I am very confused about the material changes at the engineers.

It was a good idea. But a poor execution.

That is extremely confusing. The way the origonal announcement reads suggests that a grade 5 engineering roll will now use the materials normally used in a grade 4 roll, not their grade 4 equivelant materials. I'm sure I'm not the only one to read it like that!

This actually means that on at least some modules, this bonus weekend is pointless, as I don't have any of the lower grade equivelent micro materials in the first place and would have to go searching for them anyway, just as I would for the normal recipes.

Not good FD, not good :(

Agreed. I could’ve swore this meant engineering blueprints themselves were down a grade in material requirements
