News Bonus Weekend: Trade & Engineering - Now live! (24/05 to 30/05)

They shouldn't have said rank, they should have said grade.
Unfortunately they've tried to cover up rather than admit their error.

I don't have any problem with my pinned blueprint.

They seem to have adapted themselve already. No need for Inara (for me at least)

I will try to pin new blueprint and see what's going on.

Thx for the event btw.

I hope we can get a free special effects weekend BONUS =) Hell yeah.

EDIT: I didn't trade any mats before the event . So I can understand the frustration if you already trade off the wrong mats. I am sorry for you.

Overcomplicated again devs. I hope future weekends are more straightforward and don't further waste players time. Keep things simple...

Is there a way to opt out of the Bonus weekend? I had the mats to do most of my upgrading on the old system and now I can't do any engineering for a week?

You might as well have turned off Engineering all together.

I'd rather pay the original mats.

Apparently when FDev hears hooves, they think zebras, not horses.

It is indeed silly that they don’t just pop in to say “hey sorry guys, we could’ve made that a lot clearer from the get-go, but since we don’t play our own game, we don’t know to say grade and not rank”.

Greetings and thank you for the bonus weekend and store sale!

I posted this in the main discussion thread but repeating here- if you launch the store from the Steam Elite launcher, the store discounts are not present.

So players- be sure to go to the store directly or NOT through the Elite Launcher through Steam if you want to take advantage of the Frontier Store Sale. :)

ROTFLMFAO!!!!!

this makes it even worse!!!

this is so spinal tap

do you realize you are calling the DEVS of the game you are actively playing idiots?!!!

Hello everyone,

We have updated the OP for added clarity:

Edit: There are 5 ranks for materials (as can be seen in the Material Trader) and 5 ranks for engineering recipes, and these are two different ranks. This bonus relates to the rank of materials, not the rank of engineering recipes. The cost for engineering a module at Grade 5 will use Grade 4 equivalent materials, not the materials seen in Grade *4* of the engineering recipe of that same module. We have made the changes ingame to reflect the bonus, what you see ingame right now is what you need for engineering a module during this bonus period.

FTFY :)

Your explanation just made it more confusing without all the numbers heh

hmm,

i can do 44 grade 4 rolls, and zero grade five.

Rhenium. never heard of it.

aww, guys - i _know_ your hearts were in the right place

I was expecting this:

Grade 1 Blueprint: No change
Grade 2 Blueprint: Using Grade 1 materials, based on blueprint
Grade 3 Blueprint: Using Grade 2 materials, based on blueprint
Grade 4 Blueprint: Using Grade 3 materials, based on blueprint
Grade 5 Blueprint: Using Grade 4 materials, based on blueprint

And from what I've read, pretty much everywhere, this is what people expected.

Trading bonuses, on the other hand, seems to be working as people expected.

:)

Where is the trading bonus FDev?

I have been looking at trade wing missions, and performing some calculations from trades that I have performed yesterday before the "supposed" bonus.

Missions are not Trading... Missions are Hauling. That is the number one to remember. :)

I am currently earning 1.5 millions, both ways, 1 jump, Starports very close to the main star in both systems.

What does that mean?

Well, this is a loop route, and with my trade Anaconda (448t of cargospace), I am earning about 3 million / 10 minutes going back and forth between two Starports; 1 jump between the stars.

My Cutter will almost double that; still waiting for it to arrive. :)

The best trade bonus that I have found today is just 1000CR more for ton.

Is this a joke?

How do you dare to announce it as a trade bonus?

I'm a player with more than 1000 hours played, I already have some top tier post-beyond engineered ships. And I ve told to me: "Hey Bre4k, is your chance to unlock this left 60% of your last trade Elite rank".

But nope!

Thank you Fdev.

From a disapponted player.

Sorry, forgot to do your quote. I can give you a profitable route if you want one. PM me if your interested, happy to share. Making 100 mil cr per hour with 784 capacity A-B route 5 minuets from purchase to final sale.

Maybe you can clarify this statement Will. Possibly add something like "Anyone who collected materials in advance of this week based on FDEV's incorrect statement that G5 would cost G4 need not bother with the bonus week..."

As G4 recipe is one rank below G5 I don't see any difference in meaning between your post and Will's.

Edit: Should have read the entire thread first and now see what was being talked about, however the ambiguity still makes them read the same.

Such ambiguity is a common problem when people very familiar with a situation or mechanic talk about it to those not so much in the loop, how to avoid it perhaps a more formal less conversational style of announcement might help or changing the grade/rank/whatever labels so they are less interchangeable or running the message past someone who doesn't know what it is about to see what they think you meant.

How did the old saying go? " I am sure you know what you think I said but I am not sure you realise that what I said wasn't exactly what I meant to say"

If you don't have a PvP proof ship the engineering part of it is Solo only.

There'll be long lines and blocked pads at the engineers. It'll likely be a lot of "Solo only," lol.

And to anyone from the UK, fut the fruk is Bank Holiday? I've never heard of that before. UK banks closed on Friday and/or Monday?

Holidays when banks closed and financial affairs weren't expected to be carried out just like Good Friday and Christmas day which are technically something else I believe, started legally in the 1870s, in England (Scotland always tried to be different) they include in addition to the aforementioned days, New Years Day, Easter Monday, May Day, Whit Monday, August Bank Holiday Monday and Boxing Day. Except for Boxing Day and New Years Day they are all Mondays the Monday coming being Whit Monday.

I understand it now and i want to take back my earlier complaint. Basically no blueprint will ever use a grade 5 material while this event is running. I have gotten pretty good at collecting tier 5 materials so what I did was collect a bunch of tier 5 mats. Like 25 to 30 of the big easy ones and then split them down into everything i needed to engineer a Vette. I have it fully engineered now and it was by far my easiest ship to engineer, EVER! O7 FDev and I do apologize for sounding like one of the complainers when you did something really good here. Regardless of the confusion on either sides.

Edit: TBH I think a event that would just be a double material weekend. I think the time spent at engineering will end up being the same as it is right now with the down ranked mats but will also stop from so many being confused on how it all works. Plus the opportunity to save up mats from double mats weekend to use down the road would be a great thing. Maybe something to look into FDev?

Love this idea! Good one o7

Since prices change all the time anyway, how do I know if I really earn more by trading than outside of the bonus weekend? I don't understand this. I make profits but what guarantees I wouldn't make this much anyway? There's nothing to indicate this. I trade but honestly I don't see any difference.
