Modes Why do you want me in Open?

Isn’t this proposed “PP Open mode only” actually Sandro trying address a much bigger problem? Which is to save Open mode and make it relevant.

There’s no threads advocating or game design changes proposed trying to lure, coax or force people into Solo or PG. Solo and PG players seem to be pretty happy with their game modes. Open is the broken mode, where “play the game the way you want” is pretty much impossible, unless you’re willing to accept non-consensual PvP and become some other Commander’s content. Hopefully, FD will eventually fix Open so it is a more enjoyable mode for the PvP crowd. I’m a firm believer in all modes being equal, and equally enjoyable for those who play in their preferred mode.

Fdev know that competing in Open means min/maxing engineer gambling. Which extends playtime.

So I've got to say that I was deeply unimpressed by my evening in Open at the Smuggling CG.

Now, I know all the cool kids are getting their engineering kicks tonight but the CG was still pretty well populated.
However, this much vaunted social experience just didn't materialize.
Hardly any chatter at all.
I even had a tasty wing mission for the return leg that I hawked around but no-one responded to.

So back to Mobius I go, which may be a bit of a ghost town these days, but at least when you do meet another player, they might well interact with you.

Oh, top tip for the griefer types - your l337 commander names and clan tags are a dead giveaway.
Seriously, is it still 1990!?

I think solo and PG are seen as easy mode. You don't face the risk of a PvPer. And I think, like any game, people don't like others having an easier time than them.

Look at most shooters, for example, and the rage people get when you say, play on an easier setting in the story mode. No difference for their game, but someone is having an easier time than them, and they feel cheated. The thing I think that drills this home, is self awareness.

In multiplayer shooters, everyone hates the shotgunner, cos they one shot you with no skill (even though the range is pathetic, which requires a new skill of getting in close, but what do I know, I'm that shotgun scrub). So, people become self aware of anything 'easy', and when they see easy, they think back to shotgun scrub, and feel the need to even the table.

Honestly it's very petty, and they'd actually have more fun forgetting about skill entirely.

So what you saying is that "We should become the PvPer's content" and that way you and or all other PvPers would love this game and remain playing it....

... have you ever thought about those thousand of none PvPers who hate PvP? If those would leave for good, what would the minority of the PvPer community do? Exactly stop playing anyways.

I'm not a griefer.
I just like to have people around and all the risks that that entails.
You really can't understand that?

If you don't want to play in open that's fine. Just don't try to paint it as an arena where everybody gets killed the minute they log in. It's kinda childish.

... and if I face PvPers or Griefers there is always Combat-logging ;)

Just what the EULA says.

Lol

I think I found a copy of it: https://www.frontierstore.net/ed-eula/

Care to point out exactly where getting interdicted and destroyed without warning is griefing? I mean, that was the context in which we were discussing combat logging and menu logging.

I'm having trouble because I don't see griefing anywhere. It's leading me to be suspicious of your EULA knowledge.

The word 'griefing' actually appears here, but I don't think it's what you're looking for.

Interestingly, combat-logging isn’t mentioned anywhere in it. Funny how that works, isn’t it?

Also, a while back, one of the devs stated here on the forums that if the same person interdicts the same victim over and over and over ad nauseum, that qualifies as griefing. It happens all the time at CGs.

Looks like the post we were discussing promoted violating 3c of the EULA, with a healthy side order of misinterpretation of 7.3.1 to include ingame actions against the users' avatars rather than the actual users.

Edit: Combat logging violates 3c as well, as it's cheating. Menu-logging is not, as that's an intended part of the game. Menu away, just keep off the power cables; those are for mynocks.

Yup! Combat logging is a clear violation of 3c.

So glad to see another well read individual.
