Newcomer is Done - quitting for a while - maybe for good

So OP made his point. You responded by saying what he said was stupid and deserved a stupid response. I advised that was a rude response and you wouldn't do so to someone in person. You responded by saying you would and fact prefer it. So you advised that you frequently call people stupid without having been offended personally. I would say that's a fairly unpleasant way to conduct oneself.

Not at all. I quite clearly said that I don't consider OP to be stupid. But if I would call someone else stupid I would rather do it to his face than on an anonymous internet forum. First, because it's impossible to tell if someone is stupid based on an internet thread and second because it's only fun when you can see his face. How you jump to the conclusion that I frequently call people stupid without being personally offended is beyond me and a pretty rude accusation.

You're arguing semantics about whether you called a person stupid or the comment he/she made stupid. Neither is particularly pleasant as i suspect you well know. I'm not going to debate further. Perhaps just pick your words more carefully as it appears you don't really mean to cause offense.

Dito. Next time you claim I am running around and call everyone and his mother stupid for no reason I suggest you think twice about it.

PS
By the way, I consider the discussion we just had also to be pretty stupid, I hope it doesn't offend you. ;)

self-righteous ..... (gosh the swear-filter on here is really strict!)

There are no semantics involved there at all. Challenging someone's behaviour without making a judgement about the person is a fairly basic concept in effective communication and that's exactly what he did. If you aren't seeing that in what he wrote, perhaps you'd do well to read it again.

Took several times a break from the game. So I think it is possible to play a lot and hate the game :)

However I have mixed feelings about the game. It's very funny due to the whole theme, but so grindy. Made the serious money when there were money exploits available, e.g. the skimmer missions. And I don't regret it. This was most fun in my opinon. As the OP I don't want to invest the time to start anew / loose days of progress. It's a game after all. I don't need a work simulator after work :p

Anyways I am looking forward to the coming updates. See you in space commanders :) -- Or not I'm rarely out in "open".

Was checking my steam account and I have an average of 10-20 hours in games that cost $40-60. These are games where I feel I got my money's worth. Games that I hate (but wanted to like) usually have maybe a little over 2 hours played.

If I have 750 hours into a game, that can mean nothing except that I really enjoyed my time enough to become obsessed with it, and the cost far exceeded the value. Now it's certainly a shame that you're leaving the game on a negative note (honestly I don't think you are actually leaving though), but really most players of Elite find it relatively easy to make ongoing progress (complete missions, defeat NPCs, fool the AI), even if the game is a bit grindy at times. Sounds like maybe you need an even easier game, not sure what game that would be tbh, since this one is near the bottom on the difficulty scale, and after 750 hours, you should know almost everything you need for basic flight and survival. Really that shouldn't take more than 50-250 hours, at most.

That's not to say that Elite is simple however, since I have over 3000 hours and I'm still learning new things.

You can disagree respectfully you know. Or don't even read it. The OP is entitled to vent a little. If you disagree give a respectful response or ignore it. Please, no more keyboard tough guys!
What about also: do not populate the forum with cheap rage quit posts?

The title of the thread says "Newcomer is Done - quitting for a while - maybe for good" the first line says has 750 hours... Got to be the stupidest thing I've heard in a while and coming from this forum, that says a lot.

Newcomer with 750 hours... How absurd.

It's like those steam reviews from people who slam games as boring/tedious or whatever and they have over 3k hours in it.

Just out of curiosity... after 750 hours spent in ED... what does "progression" mean to you?

It's a rather subjective term, given that ED doesn't have a "level" system, and the "ranks" pretty much boil down to time spent playing.

Credit balance?
Big 3?
#of Engineered modules in storage?
Materials collected?

I'm seriously curious. I've read so many differing opinions on what "progression" in this game is.

My own personal opinion is that there's no such thing- only enjoyment during my journey throughout the universe. Once it stops becoming "enjoyable" I will simply quit playing. (not the whinequit thing I see so often where people hang out for years to lobby for their favorite change to be implemented, either)

That's exactly the game. Pretend Spaceman til you dowanna noe moar.

After 750 hours of this game I'm out. I just can't see why I would waste one more minute of my life in this game. It's not fun to play...

I've only managed around 850 hours since release, and have had several long breaks from the game, each time coming back pleased I did and just enjoying what there was to do. So if you've racked 750 hours in short measure then perhaps you just need a rest, come back in Q4 and see how things are shaping up.

The vast majority of the money I've made has come from trading and passenger missions - with the latter being very profitable.

As for having breakfast whilst logged in. Well, that was a bit silly.

But if you never come back, I'd say 750 hours is a pretty good play-time for any game!

Yep...same. Passengers are still a decent way to generate income in between shooting stuff. Find a good spot. Get allied and start running VIP sightseeing tours and long range bulk travel. My best spot goes to a location 350,000ls out. I can get almost 30mil per trip for a 15-20min flight. EDDB is a good resource for finding long range locations. Put in where you want to be and how many LS you're willing to travel. Then go to the systems next door to see if there's runs out there. No cheats or exploits of the week. Just play the game and you'll always have a spot to get quick cash.

How did you ever managed to spend 750 hours in a game doing credit grind, before you realised the game is stupid because you can't credit grind fast enough (to achieve...what exactly)? It must have been an absolute hell man, I'm not sure if I should salute your iron determination or take pity on your folly, what an absolutely terrible time to have. lol.

yeee up
