Hardware & Technical The black just got blacker - Full RGB

Definitely helped the 3.0 sky look nice and black thanks

However, looking at the new "color grade improvements" on the Lavecon twitch stream, the black sky still turns a soupy yucky grey. Really hope they find a way to bring out the vibrant colors without over brightening the black sky (really the ISM gas/dust between stars).

This is amazing, thanks! Playing on a laptop I always wondered why external screens (TV, monitor) had such washed out images, whereas the laptop panel itself didn't.

Also for those on dual graphics setup, I found the relevant settings in the Intel (on-board) card, not the Nvidia control panel.

Note that the panel you use, has to support the full gamut provided by RGB. Many (particularly newer) TN panels will cope, some certainly will not. Older/ cheap TN panels often don't. IPS panels typically will provide a massive improvement due to the technology better representing colours and the full RGB space is one of their biggest advantages.

If there is ever a reason to get an IPS panel, Elite is surely one of the good ones.

Seconded - I've recently got one and it's a huge improvement.

On a related note...

Over the last few days I've been mucking around with a friend's PC and for convenience I've had it set up in the living room, plugged into our OLED telly.

Blimey, games like Skyrim and Witcher 3 look a lot different on an OLED display - much darker shadows and yet, oddly, more vivid colours too.

I wonder if I could convince Mrs Stealthie that the living room would look better without a TV and then I could stick it in my Command module?
42" isn't really too big for a PC monitor, is it? [where is it]

Nvidia need to fix this. I know about it and i always set it to full after a new driver update. I wonder how many people have bought good monitors but never see the full contrast. Why does Nvidia set this to "limited" by default? It should be "full" by default.

The black just got blacker for me across the board with a simple display tweak.

I ran across an article on How To Geek about if your monitor is connected via an HDMI cable you may not be getting Full RGB colors. I did the tweak and sure enough, the black does not seem washed out at all and now looks fully black. It really did make a difference.

I thought I would pass this along so others might benefit from this.

See you in the blackest of black! :D

Didn't this come up with the Oculus too? ie: To ensure it also used full rgb?

I misunderstood the 8, but it is on full now, and I just went and made 1.6 mil bounty hunting, and the visuals were amazing.

I especially love how much brighter the e
explosions are against a darker space.

Thank you.

Surely it made a difference in my Oculus Rift also, or might that be Dadburn it! Just had the word in my head.

A placebo effect, could it be that in VR?

My screen is darker for sure.
I will be trying this on my rift this evening.

It is also worth to play with 'digital vibrance' a bit in the nvidia panel, may need a newer nvidia card, idk.

I don't know why they call it like that, it's like a saturation setting, and I personally prefer a bit more popping colors in Elite.

Note: This will only affect your current display, any video recordings you take won't be affected, but it also has no effect on FPS.

I take it this is only when using an HDMI output? Because my Nvidia control panel doesn't even have this setting available, but then I'm using DVI output to an ASUS monitor.
