PvP To the Low Life who Killed my Unarmed and Unladen Hauler Today

Was that to me?
I just made a few simple observations, of obvious options.
You asked "what else is new?"

This thread, is not.

Horse, water and drinking Bob.

Horse, water and drinking.

Here's my original post (i've bolded the relevant part):-

Skills you will need to be able to do it (and FWIW I have done it in an unshielded hauler on the way back from Sag A*) are:-

- choosing where you want to drop your data. In a fringe system is the lowest risk obvs this scales up to Power capitals and if you were insane, the current CG station. This is a risk and reward dynamic - the further you go into the bubble, the greater the chance of encountering CMDRs and the greater chance if meeting a Bad Egg.

- Scanner Eagle-Eyes. If you are in a system with other CMDRs you need to know what they are doing, and then know what to do. In the grand scheme of things this isn't too hard as an explorer as you will often just be jumping to your destination system. If you do see contacts at a star, then align yourself so the rear of your ship is facing the star (so you can't be interdicted) and then turn to face your destination star when the drive is ready.

If you have contacts that are hostile, or seem hostile in your destination, consider using another system, using "the long way round" and/or gravity braking to reduce your supercruise time. (this is why your destination plus points would be a short or very long Ls distance)

-At the station itself, scanner eyes on and look for those empty squares/heatsinks and shenanigan behaviour. Keep within the speed limit, or silent run in (with a DBX even easier)

-get friendly with Iridium Wing and they will escort you in.

For me I bugged out really early and the first outpost I hit I did a data dump.

Explorers risk the most, for no tangible in game reward so I can see how that is not attractive and to stick with PG or Solo.

If that challenge floats your boat come on in.

I've been known to make even a dead horse drink.
Aren't you doing the same?

All good advice imo.

Well, you can of course always fly in Solo unless you want to wing up. But is this the solution to an obviously still non-deterring C&P system? This guy will be able to pay off his 6000 or something credits of bounty after one hour in any Interstellar Factors bureau. How about interlinking the height of a bounty with the amount of the criminally destroyed assets?

And forget about escape strategies in a Hauler with a 2D shield generator.

DD5 + Drag. 630mps or something stripped down.

Give us more details. Did you try to high wake or did you sit there with a confused look on your face?

... with his Chieftain in Nanomam: Do you feel better now, you seal clubber?

As I'm sure you have realised by now there are players that thrive on the misplaced trust of strangers. Some say it is a bad thing but I think it adds a certain thrill to Open that I find lacking in Solo - in solo I'm the hero, in Open I'm just another pilot and I like that.

This type of player is predictable & easily evaded because they will always hang out where other players are (CGs, engineers & other hotspots), just don't go to those places in Open if you aren't prepared to lose your ship & contents. You could test the waters in a safer ship (faster, better protected) and as you gain experience you will learn that they all have bedtimes & school to go to (I suppose it's technically possible some may have jobs, I discard this for a number of reasons) and it's easy enough to go in the quiet times. For example if you want to visit Farseer do it during the day or late at night, or while a CG is running in the bubble.

Now on your travels you will meet other players, the vast majority of whom will either ignore you (because you aren't a threat to them) or just say hi & carry on. Talk to these people, make friends, learn from their experience of the local neighbourhood.

These killers are an important part of my game, but I almost never meet them, and if I do it's my choice to do so (though they may not realise this) and I plan ahead & am ready.
I have a high-wake destination plotted.
I have a fast and/or tanky ship.
I have a plan of what I will do to evade interdiction
I have a plan of what to do if I am interdicted
I stick to the speed limit around stations
I am patient, and will wait for a distraction (which you may have provided for another player)

And so on. Planning for these contingencies really adds to the game for me, but if I really want to do something now, I'm not so proud to avoid dropping to solo either, but I consider that option before entering the system, not after I realise I've bitten off more than I can chew.

I'm not convinced that is fast enough combined with a 2D shield generator to escape an 550 m/s FdL with long range rails...

Yeah i reckon it could be done, pop a heatsink and boost round you, easy enough, worked before (Pre 3.0, i was topping out at 589 and never had a greifer even touch the paintwork)

And pray that the FdL doesn't have some multis and shoots you out of the sky with simple aim with your 70 mj shields.
Seriously, if you never got killed by a griefer in a hauler, you're either

a) a very good pilot - far above average, congratulations then.
b) never fly near engineer/CG Systems in a hauler.
c) got very lucky with instancing / griefer skill.

That all above of course only counts if you spent considerable time in a hauler in open. Even I survived several trips in a hauler in open, and I'm a bad pilot.

When I fly my weakest ships, I always hi-wake before I get interdicted.
If I were in a Hauler with 3mil explo data onboard, I would have jumped at the first smell of hollow triangle.

In 2018, if you haven't figured out that there are mean folks on the interwebs, the shame is definitely on you.

There can be all the in game advice in the world, but the most important one to understand is also the simplest--hit escape, then quit to main menu. After this, start, then SOLO. Solo is an acronym for SomeONE Living Online. Given that you wanted to live in that situation, it seems logical.

Folks can site social interaction, flavor, or whatever, but the truth is that if you aren't interested the social interactions that a scenario can offer you, don't be in those scenarios in the first place and they won't happen.
