Why are n00bz so rude... "?"

I remember back when i was a Noob, and could not even fly the damn ship without crashing into anything and everything, let alone work out how to Chat with other players.

Before blaming them just remember what you where like OP as a complete Noob!

I used to do a thing that is a little bit different - jump into sidey and go annoy "not a noob!'s" in vipers, vultures and similar with low ranks in res-es. Not that i could really hurt them (was pre-engineers so no magical superpowers), but the amount of swearing, threats and accusations of cheating when my sidey did not explode after first hit was... amusing.
Guess it is just how most people communicate with strangers when they are sure they are protected by anonymity...
No comms at all probably mean that you are considered npc or they do not know how to use comms...

the hostile act still makes no sense to me tbh... it already damages my ship... why should i be fined as well???

I'm literally in tears... this is EXACTLY how it went!!! lolol

And the guy was looking at a re-buy screen thinking unkind thoughts about the mission he's just messed up and hate, hate, hate... yeah, I can see you're a great help, just what he didn't need.

It took me half an hour on the phone with my mate to pick up all the comms/wing stuff... which I don't use, if I get called I just ignore it cos by the time I get my head around being safe enough to answer the guy is over the other side of the Galaxy.

Why does every thread turn into a dumpster fire?

"like begets like"

read the tone not only of the OP or the other posts made by the original poster and you have your answer.

Had OP have been after honest polite discourse the question would be "I have noticed seemingly new players are not interested in chat... why is that? All i want to do is help.

but no.... that is not how it went.

Being a noob is utterly confusing. The learning curve is much talked about regarding this game and being interdicted or even simply hailed by another human Cmdr can be hugely intimidating, potentially extremely costly and very much dependent on keyboard settings.

It’s easy to forget these things just as it’s easy to forget how to be empathetic generally. It does however reflect on the experienced player far more than the new. If, however, a new player acts and communicates as an @rse, you don’t need to waste much time sifting through your own personal empathy settings.

I got lonely... so I flew to the n00b systems...I thought helping out n00bz woud be FUN!!! But, quickly I am educated to the unexplainable fact that n00bz don't want help. THEY WONT EVEN ACKNOWLAGE MY EXISTANCE!!! I pull them over, gain a fine for my courtesy ( FDEV), and they completely ignore me. I don't understand this behavior. Will someone explain it to me PLEASE!!!???!!!

Sorry to jump in so late into this thread but his happened to me the first three weeks I was playing.

Still in the sidewinder, offered "stuff." Now, I had read these forums and articles regarding griefers and the assumption is that I was being set up for getting blasted.

"Here, little mouse. You look cute. Have one ton of cheese. Go ahead, it's free."
Player moves to take the bait.....followed by the one offering and two or three other players opening fire for the lulz.

I didn't care to take the chance. I'd have to suspect that these noobs are under the same impression.

I've helped and talked to lots of Newbies around the stations in Eravate. Pulling a new player out of supercruise with an interdiction is a hostile act and very rude of itself. What goes around comes around.

Haha, once I was in Eravate in my Cobra III and got interdicted by some Cmdr in a Python. I immediately submitted, deployed hardpoints and turned in his direction, ready for a life and death battle....and nearly ran into him as he just sat there. Sent a chat saying he scared the heck out of me and he replied he was just having fun, then we went our separate ways.

Probably ruining somebody's fun by mentioning this but, meh...

If you're on a new(ish) account and you hang around starter systems, you'll get people pulling you out of SC and then telling you stuff like "keep your throttle down in SC cos you're dazzling people" or "Don't honk in SC because everybody in the system can hear it".

I guess that's the ED version of sending the new-start to the store for a "long stand".

If you want to help noobs why not just sit outside a noob starter station and broadcast your offer in local rather than begin with the offensive action of interdiction?

This is clearly a troll post judging by the responses, so I would recommend moving on to the next post - inevitably about PowerPlay or why noone plays in Open any more...

everyone plays in open... wth r u talking about????

I think people have given you enough benefit of the doubt, time to stop trolling, thanks.

typical cynical

Took me a month to map thrusters and throttle properly.

hence my desire to help them...

I remember being new....

I'm got interdicted in Sol earlyish on and got no message up front and there was nothing after dropping. Eventually I fumbled comms to type '?' and got a response about wanting to practice. Even then, it was only after I jumped out that I figured maybe they were human.
It was another 2 months before I joined the forums and learned that there are hollow squares and solid squares.

More than a year later, I'm doing DWE which meant lots of meet ups. Lots of chat..... I still struggled with it. Often times what I typed wouldn't come out. Worse, after I typed I couldn't get out without escaping to the menu.

So I can completely understand radio silence.
Also, when you're in middle of playing, you was to play. Anything more than a salute is a distraction unless you *want* to talk.

Also.... The game is called 'dangerous'. Ergo there are no nice people :/

If you wanna help, broadcast an offer (don't interdict).
I recall in the original horizons beta being interrupted by an NPC and getting an offer of help. I didn't need it as I beat the mini game but we had a chat. They were a fuel rat and saw an asp flailing about on the scanner. Now *that's* a great way to offer assistance in my opinion.

and triangles... whats the diff between squares & triangles???

Indeed, don't see how interdiction could be considered an "offer" to connect , help or communicate rather than construed as harassing. In the same instance, using comms, friend request (although I'd wish they had another contacts category), or flashing headlights would seem more genuinely communicative.

clearly not a ps4 player

Hehe. That's so right.

Who knows, I haven't done a survey but, indeed maybe n00bs are less rude (even than calling them, n00bs as opposed to Rookie Commanders, say) but more adrenalin fuelled. They are young mices .. and you might easily be a cat so bye bye.

edit:

Hardpoint deployment.

It's very rude to interdict. An act of aggression. Very annoying.
I wouldn't want help from someone acting so brash.

obtuse

Just a question for the OP - How do you know they are noobs. For all you know, those Commanders flying the Sidewinders and Haulers you deemed so incompetent that they need your help could be triple Elite players who have just purchased an additional account or reset their account for the challenge. They might have more experience and knowledge of the game in their little pinky than you could ever amass. Just think, you may have interrupted some guy who has set out to go from Sidewinder to Anaconda in 2 hours.

Hmm wonder if you are now on any KOS lists …. ;)

no question marks, sir...
