Going to be buying an Anaconda and outfitting it specifically in preparation for this.

I was planning on taking either Krait (2 AFMU) or Python (1 AFMU+repair limpets); however after reading about the megaship refuelling and CG proposal I’m wondering if I should take my annie with refinery, collector limpets and mucho cargo space instead. I’ve got a mining laser on all 3 options, just in case emergency jumponium is required.

If you’ve not flown an annie before then you might want to first try it out on a longish shake down trip, the SC manoeuvrability and visibility is markedly poorer than smaller ships.

I think DW2 is now officially the largest community created event in Elite history.

If its anything like DWE1, there'll be another 1,000 signing up in the final week before launch

You do know about Elite's instancing limits..?

If not, sad to destroy your dreams but instance "official" maximum is 16 cmdrs. People has managed to get instances over 100 cmdrs but those are highly unstable and practically unplayable because fps drops to ridiculous numbers.
Therefore im not too excited even if there would be 10000 signups, you wont ever see more than 15-20 cmdrs simultaneously anyways.

But on the plus side, with 3000+ cmdrs going on to this expedition, theres practically always people at basecamps, thats for sure.

I’m finding sufficient difficulty in landing my Python since the planet surface “improvements” thanks!

There's not much use case for >1 AFMU these days. You're better off taking repair limpets.

unfortunately to take limpet controller you must also take a cargo hold to carry the limpets; which is most annoying. I’d rather take the Krait with AFMU and repair controller but it wouldn’t work. Hence two AFMU (Krait) or one AFMU plus repair controller plus cargo for the limpets (Python). I like my Python but prefer the cockpit view of the Krait (once they fix those very annoying bright white lights and the red light on the left that makes it impossible to read the instruments).
