General / Off-Topic My name is Elba. Idris Elba

Another perspective on this, the most important issue of the decade.

007 'James Bond' is an agent and a alias, not a certain person, am I rite? I think so at least :p
Anyone can be 007 as long as they qualify. So I see no problem with a black James Bond.
(I just hope they can bring the old feeling of the movies back, I haven't liked any Bond movie
since Golden Eye.)

What annoys me though is when they change famous historical characters to a different
ethnicity.

A black Achilles.. Really?!

James Bond has always had ridiculous plots...

Bond uncovers a baddie's hollowed out volcano lair

Bond goes into space to shoot out poison satellites

That's what was so great about the old movies. Totally bonkers :D
Now the focus seem to be more on realistic violence. No thanks.

Achilles is kinda legendary not historical though, yeah? Only historical vis-a-vis being a historical legendary figure. Like you take Bond 2000 years from now...that's Achilles.

I really don't mind it, but that production did suck for other reasons.

Sure any agent could be given the code 007.

However, they cannot be given the name James Bond. That's ridiculous.

Better to just create a new character with moniker 009, or 00-12 or something...

Nit-picking :p

My feeling is this:

How may legendary figures will we NEVER know because of Leopold III type people? And Achilles wasn't white or black but some legendary figure of ancient race. So who cares about who plays him? Let anyone play him. Same for everything else. That production was bad because it was cheesy as hell.

I want it to be correct. Mythology or not, the ancient Greeks where not sub-Saharan Africans.
What's next, southeast-asian Vikings?
It's getting ridiculous, and not enjoyable to watch.

Yeah but they weren't Welsh either, and like...I'm Welsh, like Jesus portrait Welsh, but it's bull really isn't it? What's authentic in the case of Achilles? No one. Granting Vikings is a stretch, but Greece is Mediterranean and culture exchange of the time was high, right? So I can buy a pretty far-reaching Achilles. Actually if the production is GOOD, I really don't care about what Achilles it is. And they wasted the actor, because I know he's good. That's what makes me more mad.

And you know what, Idris Heimdall was awesome. So screw it, Scandinavian too, kinda. I get where you're coming from with part of me, but another part is like, who cares? Give it to a good actor.

(I am really sorry if this goes south and has to be moderated).

Also one more thing: like why not let southeast-asian Vikings happen and fail? I guess I'd just ignore it. We do that crap all the time to Asian roles, not really bothered by the contra, and part of me would be thrilled if the f'ing Viking sagas got a Chinese adaption.

Last thing: I always like debate anyway. Whadda I know? Just an American of Welsh descent. Speak your mind!

If you have the time to watch the video I posted he did talk about that.

Anyways I'll leave it at that :)

And Jesus was a black women, but the church (i guess under Saint Pauls direction) did not like that. Ok maybe that is a stretch but i've certainly heard that Jesus 'could have' been black, or atleast much darker than we think of him.

That's the thing about time and ancient history, we have no photos to be 100% sure on what people actually looked like much of the time.

Anyway i hope the rumour IS true and we have a black Jame Bond coming :)
