Offline mode it's lie from Braben. Period. You like it or not.
...
Hmm, the issue was more like a lie of omission, they must have known six months to a year that offline mode was sacked but neglected to advertise the fact until just before release (a gambit they have now perfected - cf. a gutted multicrew, poorly designed Powerplay, no story naval ranks, dead CQC, etc), then denied refunds to backers, which then exploded across the 'net forcing David Braben to offer refunds so long as you hadn't played the alpha or some such qualifier (so fairly relevant); a sleazy business practice no matter how you look at it.I think you are overly upset about offlinegate years after it was relevant, even when it was relevant it wasn't a very big deal.
Wow (the MMO), began life in 2004 and still has an active player base of ... well, the numbers are hidden, but 14 years, with many (numbers that ED can only dream of), players that were there at the beginning still paying a subscription. The main difference: Blizzard release huge updates on a regular occurrence (and I'm not talking about half baked barely working updates - cf. invisible alien attacks on stations, upping the grinding stakes for alien weaponry / tech, etc)......
All games have a lifetime. If you overplay them you will get bored. Then move on.
Disappointment with elite dangerous is generally increasing.
Comment sections on trailers are getting more and more negative and toxic. (check new trailer comment section)
People dont expect anything great anymore from Fdevs.

Put the time on half year or year, you can see decreasing playerbase in this game after thargoids got released.
Either frontier wakes up, or this game is going to die sooner than they expected.
Many people from player faction im part of are slowly leaving or taking long term breaks, myself included.
I dont think this is the "there will always be unhappy minority" case
And yes, im making this thread, because i want to see other peoples opinions and reactions.

to be honest, when i was much younger, i was very much into spacegames, i saw ed, saw some youtube videos about it and bought it, seeing it had MMO tag
then i discovered is more of a borderlands kind of multiplayer than anything
and the reason people stick with elite because they are probably 30+ year old people who played first elite, have no idea what kind of gaming standards are these days, and come to forums defending the game through blood even though the game is in obvious trouble, which even many and most famous ED youtubers point out, but its best to just ignore them really
Nor the fan base. This game is apparently perfect so they say. It's you that is wrong or broken or... Move along now...
So basically then you're admitting that FDev cannot deliver what they promised. That they do not have the technical know-how to achieve what was planned. We agree then it was either they couldn't or wouldn't. And for you the reason the game is so empty and unfinished is because they couldn't finish it. Glad you posted your opinion.
Cmdr Eagleboy, known as the second biggest fanboy just confirmed that criticism of the game is indeed possible. Can we move on now?
I would like to temporarily break up this discussion with an intermission type space....
Stawberries, blueberries, blackberries, meringue nests and double cream..
Ok carry on everyone !
Flimley

I am totally not saying that he is a russian bot.
Quick, look above!
Do I win the internet ?.
Even I complain about the game, you just might not recognize it as it's in the form of accurately written feedback instead of entitled screeching and the flinging of poo.

Two very fair points and you are absolutely correct in making them.
However, my point was in regards, mainly, to space legs and the monumental task that it obviously is. People claiming Elite has failed and Braben has lied because they're not here yet and we've still no word on them. When I don't think they quite grasp the vastness of the task and how long things take to develop. It's why I used the long development of Cyberpunk 2077 as an example because let's face it, Space Legs (if implemented properly) will make Elite a vastly different game (and almost a different game in itself), so it's understandable that they'll take years to develop.
