Game's future

NMS was dead, the majority hated it but now it's the best thing since sliced bread. ED meanwhile has had a loyal following with much better play count over more years, but it's actually dead despite a large update coming in Chapter 4 and some announced DLC maybe at the end of the year, certainly next year.

Weird world.

*goes off to bake humble pie*

Besides the whiteknights and fanboys in this thread - yes, I mean exactly you - I would say that there are still some valid Points raised. Lets see what the upcoming weeks will bring, but as said - with a community like this who is celebrating every fix of a text bug with a "Thank you, Frontier" or a "What a tremendous work we all like the effort you put into the game" while leaving 90 % of the Bugs out it doesnt make sense to discuss.

I would say, this Forum has become a relegious place for some People. All this "stay positive"-trend in the last weeks doesnt help anyone. No criticism, no Progress. Celebrating everything: No Progress. Behave nice, but express your opinion and don´t let the whiteknights catch you.

Unbelievable. I miss the times where Micheal Brooks was virtually beaten up for saying "That´s not true" after we told him that the Mission System is Buggy :) (which was shortly after release - I think the state of the Mission System hasnt changed much since then)…

Nah, most people see the game's faults but they just see a glass half full where as you see one that's not even half empty or has a hole in the bottom. I mean that's your opinion of the game and you're entitled to it but when you run about calling everyone who doesn't agree with you "a white night" then expect some push back. Of course you could just leave and spend your time more fruitfully but I guess like the other serial complainers it's easier said than done?

Edit: And why is it many of those who complain end up veering into 'persecution complex' territory where 'nobody listens, everyone says the game is great and there isn't any criticism'? Christ, it's not like there's not been several hundred posts where the very faults of the game have been discussed at length and people have said one thing, and other people have said another. Instead 'it's the community' that's at fault.

Nobodies saying stay positive, it's more of a "lol contrived doom" thing.

People are also saying it's a video game if you don't enjoy it you should stop playing and to a lesser extant wondering why people hang around telling everyone they've quit playing the game again.

Oh the Steam charts this, the Steam charts that... I've no idea where to even find them and don't want to know because they mean nothing to me. I'm either enjoying something regardless of what some contrived graph says, or I'm not. I have my own mind and I'll make it up for myself. I've long come to accept that Frontier has no ability to communicate where update content is concerned. I can live with that. I've also come to accept that Frontier does not know how to finish what they start in one go as well. I can live with that as well. Ultimately, in the end, I end up with a pretty solid product I can enjoy, no matter what potholes I hit along the way.

So, if you've finished with this week's steam charts, pass them over here, I've done my business and need something to tidy up with...

I am a little bit bored of this now.

So think about starting a tread about the future of the applepie with you, to rant about something more substencial.

I took a applepie

- I love it

- I like it

- I think, it could be better, but it is still my favourite choice.

- This is not, what they have promised to me! I order it again!

- I hate and ate it every day, I don´t know why, but I write a book about it.

- The bakery across the street sells only very expensive flour, but believe me, it would be a much better pie when the once get a oven.

- And where are the plums?

I like it with custard.

Im reinstalling the game as I type this, due to a recent windows install and the fact I thought it was time to sell a lot of data that I've had on since earlier this year.

Nothing in the up coming update makes me want to play again but the big one in Q4 might.

Still, even concurrent player numbers seem to be largely unaffected by the phenomenon you described in the 2017 thread you made.

Why do I think such? Because they are rather stable over the course of the day and just as active player numbers, they are affected by updates.

Not sure what you are trying to say, but that's probably just me being dense.

Yes, and that scale would be only someone knowing FD internal business practices and money flows. As we don't know it, those numbers are meaningless to us. Yet people try to get such information from companies for some reason. As I said, it doesn't matter. You like game. You play it. You don't like, you don't. What's the point?

Basically he is providing one information source. And FD shareholder report about 2017 (soon to published) will provide another one. And then will come 2018 report. And so on and so forth.

Collating those data together it seems David is talking sense. Even if he doesn't provide all info it seems he is confirming what is might be largely true.

It almost feels that lot of people want to get some data just to try to prove their point that game is dying.

It rather feels like paid shills posing as White Knights try their dandest to detract from those inconvenient Details.

Game is what it is and we've had such discussions countless times. The White Knighting and Sockpuppeting/derailing attempts are pointless.
David's Company is doing well - a condition that has very little connection to the state ELITE. Latter is being discussed here, not Frontier's stock value.

Game has been dying since before the official release, if this forum is to be believed.

Could everyone please make an effort to reply to the post, without discussing the poster's armour or lack thereof?

Thanks.

You argued that ED is doing badly because devs don't listen to you and your friends. Now you are saying FD is doing good. I am very confused.

FD doing well has everything to do with ED as it stil their biggest money maker. Game is thriving, when in your opinion it shouldn't. You are ignoring other possible perspective - game is doing well with certain part of player base who enjoys it.

ED≠FC

It is their biggest money maker, even with increased PC and JWE popularity.

Ergo ED is doing good money wise. Which means there's actualky lots of players enjoying it.

Stop trying to make state of ED an emergency. Game is doing good.

It doesn't say anything about improving it. But sorry it has never been a tosh you guys trying to paint it.

If a thread OP's content is trash, it invites trash-talk. Enjoy some self-reflection and become a better poster, I'm sure you can find it in you to create a wholesome & interesting thread for discussion :)

no thanks, i come to forums once per 6 months or so, i prefer to spend my time better ways i dont want to be any poster
i just came here to tell frontier to step the crap up, negativity is not going up for no reason

There's a few problems with that assumption.

It's FDEV's forum so they could just ban people if they want to suppress something, they obviously don't do that. Replying to a thread keeps it going which has the opposite effect to what you think people are secretly working towards so it's counterproductive to an attempt at suppressing information. It's also an unnecessary expense when volunteer mods could just dump the thread where no one would see it, or roll it into one mega doom thread somewhere obscure.

The much simpler assumption is that people genuinely like the game, disagree that everything's doomed and find the constant doom predictions funny after four years of seeing them fail.

Still, FD could be doing good and ED not and I'm not saying ED is in an emergency state at all but I do trust steamcharts.

Another game I play had for a while a policy of closing the forum account of anyone who said in the forum that they no longer played the game. This was widely considered draconian, but I begin to understand the reasons for it. I guess it wouldn't happen here though.
