Gamescom 2018

Ahhh.

I do wonder a bit how there can easily be 'nothing' in an update like this as to me it looks like a good spread, of general stuff across the board? Maybe missing something but I'd think just 'new bases with backstories to find' is at least a minor plus to even most the hardcore of narrative explorers. Looks like a bit of new everything to me in genuine honesty.

"New bases/POIs to find" is worthless if the methods for finding them are going to remain the same. Without a change to the way these sites are discovered, it's just YouTube/Canonn content, amounts to nothing, and might as well not be in the game at all. I guess we'll see if they're going to add legitimate in-game clue trails for these or if it's all going to boil down (again) to "wait until a group of hardcore lunatics tweaks their graphics settings, hacks the game files, and does a tool-assisted eyeball search over several systems worth of planets, then go look up the coordinates online."

If that's what it's going to be, I'd rather they just make another Commander Chronicles cartoon.

The other stuff? I personally dislike most of it for what I will admit are my own idiosyncratic reasons (Colonia shouldn't be "Bubble 2.0", not looking forward to the inane grind for the guardian stuff, I don't like shipkits-as-new-ships, and every weapon doesn't need to be available in every size and large/huge multi cannons were a mistake), but I do get why other people would be excited about it so hopefully this will be fun for them.

I'm intrigued, hopeful, and highly skeptical about planetary multicrew missions but if they deliver on their potential then boy oh boy will I be excited about this update for that reason alone.

I hope Obsidian Ant's not your contact, he said the same over a year and a half ago. :)

Yep, and remember OA said same after the private invite and visit to FDev - or was this the same one... But a bad reference for sure. Expect to learn more off OA's YouTube channel or whatever where clicks are the only thing that's important.

Anyway, we know FDev will overhype as usual, and the fanbase will eat it up even the smallest of crumbs. That's expected. Listen to the whoops and cheers and all in the Gamescon video that was just posted - too funny actually! A ship appears, with a big wing, and is described as having little more than SLF capability, and the crowd goes nuts! That was pretty funny!

Well being fair Q4 will bring means, in theory, to search and discover stuff in ways other than eyeballing entire planet surfaces or exploiting graphics settings.

Yeah that's the one. I don't believe OA was in any way lying about it (at least not intentionally), but he was probably shown early concepts of things to be released in 6 years, if ever.

re we really at the point where we're celebrating just heaps of the same stuff we already have? A smattering of tiny locations spread out across the expanse is not engaging content, nor is another stack of +1 weapons to grind through with engineers.

Yeah I sincerely hope obtaining these weapons is not going to be, run this single site over and over again like the last lot. This was not good gameplay. :(

Or prototype tech of space legs and atmospherics. Those things will take years.

These are both posts that ignore the - often stated - fact that it's been no secret, ever since it was announced the Q3 was always always going the be what Frontier like to call 'a smaller' update. Sheesh.

Seriously though. If you want the game to succeed and go on to do the things you (and I and everyone) wants it to do, this is not the way to go about it. Have a look for the positives then maybe the narrative changes? (eg. Rian Johnson didn't kill Star Wars you know, it's 'the fans' who create such narrative virals).

Never - in the field of digital entertainment - have so many sheeps owed so much salt to so few youtubers

Even a small update can iterate on the game's mechanics. Instead, it appears FDev are only interested in pumping out more of the same stuff we already have.

You are kidding right? When I find a seam of Painite (in a pretend asteroid belt) I go 11/10 nuts ...
