Community Event / Creation ***Attention Explorers*** GNOSIS Jumps planned THROUGH a permit Lock !

I did some testing about how to get back from Cone before Gnosis jumps to Formidine Rift: I went to The Gnosis, landed there to make sure in case of death I will spawn there, then I launched and comitted the worst crime in Elite -loitering - The Gnosis killed me and I was teleported to California Nebula :). So in case of "I need to get back NOW, can't wait 4 weeks" cash your data at gnosis, and do some pad loitering.

Does that make it a pine cone?

10/10 for pun cleverness...minus several million for pun funniness!

Hopefully SDC have their places booked on the Gnosis; I look forward to the accompanying vids & of course, the subsequent butt-hurt forum threads complete with pre-eminent, amateur psychology. [big grin]

Will we be able to see it jump or will it happen during downtime? Trying to decide whether to bring my long range aspx or my heavy combat conda, cause you never know whats out there.

It happens during downtime, the gnosis has outfitting so modules can be transferred there giving you the option to change your ship from exploration to combat if you want

Nah, your route is passing through permit locked systems. I had the same issue had to run some smaller plots to get up to the galactic plane of the genosis location then come back along, little bit annoying but not too bad, i went through the wregoe sector as well.

Thanks for the reply. I used the neutron star in that area so I'm ganna retrace my steps and hope I can figure it out from there.

In-game permit rational

A question about in-game lore from an on-and-off player. Is there any explanation about the entity that is able to forbid entire regions of space? Also taking into account that every ship nav computer honors those permits. I can think of Universal Cartographics being somehow involved?

I understand that can be simply an FD excuse to reserve things for gameplay, but it would be cool if there were some in-game backing.

That's always risky - more so if your movement is limited by being at the edge of something, either the galactic disc or, as in your case, a (or multiple) permit locked sector. Good luck for finding your way back out, and hoping you haven't painted yourself in a corner.

Just as an idea (have never tested it myself): do the external route plotters at Spansh or EDSM take permit locked systems into account? If yes, at least the Spansh plotter can use more relaxed options than the Galmap plotter.

The answer is "no", unfortunately. For instance they both plot perfectly straight course to V355 Monocerotis, while we all know that in reality this way is blocked by the "fence".

Additionally, external plotters can only use stars known to the EDDB backend. As we get farther from the bubble, especially if you get off the beaten path, the fraction of stars that the external tools know about will continue dropping. (That's another benefit of tagging new systems - as long as you're running EDDiscover those new systems will help populate the database.)

I'm actually a bit surprised to hear there's enough known systems in the locked sectors for the external tools to plot a route!

If I remember correctly, these restrictions are imposed by the Pilot's Federation. All FSD computers are built to obey Pilot's Federation restrictions. I can't find a source for this, though.

Just arrived. :)
Will the Gnosis need refuelling/resupplying on this trip? Should I summon some mining equipment or anything?

May not 'need' it .. though I've certainly got mining equipment (1) just in case (2) to give altenative activity to exploration and (3) I roleplayed bringing in liquid O2, to resupply Gnosis .. in my mind. (Good for 'taking rock samples' in RP too imo).

Unfortunately jumped into a system I don't have the mass to escape from. So I guess my journey ends here. I was actually using the Spanish to navigate to other neutron stars along my path.

Super rookie mistake but after I blow myself up I think I'll step away for awhile. I sold my DBX for the Chieftain thinking it was ganna be a good move and have less than 5k bucks. I should have just stuck out the route without the star hopping. When I have the patience to return I'll remember this lesson. I'm ganna keep my eyes on this thread to see what, if anything, I missed out on.

No chance to get away from there? Burning fuel and using synthesis to boost your FSD?

Let me tell you about this organization called the Fuel Rats.
Their mission is to respond to & rescue stranded CMDRs such as yourself.
Give them a honk if you haven't exploded yourself yet.

I was a few units short for a self made FSD boost. I'm back in Fousang and I'm thinking about going barebones in my T7. I don't have a modified FSD though so my range isn't great. Max is 22.7 I think.

I've heard of the Fuel Rats before but didn't think they would travel that far. And I had plenty of fuel. Just not the mass I guess.

I really wanna be a part of this trip so I'm ganna try again. Before I go... Any tips? Lol

I recommend this thread:

It's a grand tale of just how far the Fuel Rats will go.

And good luck! 22.7 will get you to the Gnosis, and I'm sure you'll be able to have a good time inside the blocked-off sector. I know the people flying the big thing are looking to make sure that those without long jump ranges will be able to get back home safely once we're done. It's not hopeless!

Hopefully I make it in obe piece. I'm ganna head back in but this time I'll have an SRV so I can land. Can you sell data to the Gnosis? The cred right there would make the do-over worth it IMO.

Yes, you can! Gnosis has a Universal Cartographics agent, and also a Search and Rescue if you find any black boxes or escape pods out there.

Yes and also the surrounding systems allow some good income from water worlds or even an ELW (found one so far, on a short trip, there must be a lot more). I think the whole journey is paradise for true explorers. Personally I already become homesick, no missions, no bounty hunting, no quarrels with my home system's pirate faction, no mining in my favorite mining ship, no planetary scan missions... I miss them all. :D

And yet I'm here, the explorer heart is beating too strong I guess. [heart]

..and sometimes the other way around. :p

I think I hate the community the most when I get ganked right before I turn in an engineer item, or bounties lol.
