News Beyond - Chapter Three Launch Announcement

I'm leaving for a trip today, so I won't be able to try it out for a week. :/ Also, the Virpil that I ordered (specifically to use in ED) arrives on Wednesday. Why!!?!!! :( Why when I'm gone. Blarg!

Programming is a different activity to designing.

Well, I'm done with this whole Beyond debacle and the glorious White Knightery here.
When you share your opinion and it's not according the choosen few here you're either a whiner or a liar, so much for personal respect.
You guys just keep sticking your head in Fdev's place where the sun don't shine.
Like quite a few others here I hope Q4 will fix ED in a more fun game to play, if not then I won't be playing much anymore if at all.

I hope you get a lot of fun out of the new combat toys when 3.2 lands tomorow.

In game tools

I'm waiting on in game tools to help me find points of interest without having to scour the internet. I had literally been playing a year and knew nothing about ruins, crashes, alien bases, etc. Frontier does a fairly shotty job of bringing new players up to date with all this stuff. Here's a ship, and a galaxy...have fun. Then you go to forums and discover there is so look much to do and see. I was honestly about to hang up my captains uniform... But it would add to the sense of discovery if there were more in game tools to aid in finding this stuff. Anyone can pull up a list online complete with coordinates that take you directly to these sites. I think the detailed surface scanner should display "major"
points of interest...

Nope. He waited for something which they explictely said wasn't coming. Maybe it is an issue with your ability to comprehend what has been said.

Can you point me to the post where FDev explicitly said they would not make "core game improvements and fixes" in chapter 2 & 3? I can't find that and it should help clarify things for everyone and set expectations right.

I hope to get a lot of fun from may of the items expected to arrive tomorrow, the only things I don't expect to get any fun out of are mission related as I only use missions for unlocks of rank or permits as a rule.

If Q4 does not hit enough points on your wish list I wish you well in your search for gaming perfection.

As far as the respect or lack of it in the forums, it is a forum and most people who bother to post rather than just read tend to become very polarised in their opinions so of course the heresies that they read others posting get jumped on it is difficult to find anyone who hasn't been guilty at one time or another.

I just wish I could continue playing ED rather than wait for an update which contains combat-orientated content I won't use. :)

How much playtime is the update process actually taking from you? Realistically?

How nice of you to ask.

There's the downtime before the download while the servers are updated and rebooted, plus my slow internet connection while the update downloads. So, as per other updates, pretty much most of the day. Realistically, of course. :)

Define "most of the day" please. That term is usually used in a hyperbolic sense for an inconsequential time. And here that further is tapered by the amount of the process that would actually occur while you were playing. So what actual timeframe are we talking here.

I'd like to know what you're losing that you consider worth complaint about introducing content you don't prefer. A standard to place against the enjoyment those who do look forward to this content if you will.

Yeah, I’m a little torn on this. I tick all the obvious boxes as a player. 1984 Elite veteran; played all the content; pimped a corvette; been to Sag A* and back; laboured the endless Guardian grind. You get the idea.

I’m also a professional game designer / programmer and I have a really good understanding of how hard this stuff is to realise well. I also know the misery of facing a wall of angry, entitled player forums day after day. It’s hard work.

So yes, the design of ED is hugely flawed across several areas. Perhaps they are guilty of not respecting players’ time. Perhaps there’s a lack of content to cover the hugely ambitious and diverse player base. I found some of their gameplay design choices uninspired and a little wrong-headed.

But in reality, this is Frontier’s baby. The game is a form of art and no matter how one engages with it, they owe us nothing beyond what has already been delivered. You don’t pay for an album, a movie or a novel, then expect the creator to keep giving you free updates or make changes to suit your tastes. We the consumer just engage with the content and if in the end, we can’t abide it then we can certainly criticise. We can pontificate on the coulda woulda shouldas. But what we cannot do is fool ourselves into thinking we own any part of the process or the product itself.

The creator owes you nothing.

Honestly I'm a bit sad, because I really waited Krait Phantom. Any others sounds good, but why no Krait Phantom? :(

I'm crossing my fingers that the Krait Phantom being delayed until 3.3 means that we will finally be seeing a NEW exploration specialist ship :D

I mean, it's a fantastic cockpit view for exploration. 2nd only to the Asp or the T9/10.

I truly hope you'll get your fun from this update.
We play games for having fun right?
When you have fun playing ED then by all means keep playing, I'd recommend ED to anyone who hasn't bought it yet, I got more then 2000 hours of fun out it so far, that's the best bang for my buck compared to any other game.

If Q4 doesn't bring what I hope it will then maybe the next update will, in the meantime there are enough other games and ways to have fun.

I always try to answer without aiming at the person but only to what that person has said.
I try to think of using "imho" as much as I can because it's only my opinion, not someone else's.
To bad others must use either insulting one liners or name calling to give credibility to what they're saying.
I'm not bothered by it though, it just confirms me of the fact that sharing opinions with these people isn't worth my time.

Thanks for the update information and it does look interesting.

Instead of introducing new features which in turn makes the sandbox even wider. How about making the sandbox deeper with existing content? After all, is this not what 2018 / 3304 was suppose to be about?

That would indeed be very sweet. I'm expecting the Krait Phantom to be a combat specialized variant though, like the T10 and the Chieftain hulls. Because, you know, it's Frontier.

While you are certainly entitled to your own opinion and entitled to call out people abusing you, it goes much better if you don't resort to the same thing in very next sentence.

Sorry you feel abused and hard done by and I also certainly hope quarter 4 does live up to all our expectation, but if you decide to leave I hope you find a good game to spend your time on.

Fly safe cmdr.

Most ships are ultimately pretty capable at combat, even the T9. However, it's typical of Frontier to introduce new ships that have had their design specs at least slightly nudged to be competitive at any new mechanic. PP, Horizons, multicrew, Thargoids, etc, each of these arrived with a new ship that was especially suited to the tasks involved. That's not to say they always got the mark, nor that other ships were bad by comparison, far from it, but merely that the single task was something that the new ship would be suited to doing, at least by certain metrics.
