SRV instancing still broken. **Fixed as of 3.3 (1.27 PS)**

You folks are way more patient than I am. I actually don't care too much about the SRV bug for my own gameplay (I only use this during special social events), but the persistence of my "minor" shadow/shader bug has caused me to shelve the game. There are so many other amazing games for the PS4 that there's no reason to force ourselves to play a buggy game unless the space exploration genre is the only genre we're interested in.

I'll be back when Q4 drops. It's enough of a graphics rework that it might just fix my bugs. I got faith the size of a mustard seed, but that's better than nothing! [haha]

Yeh thanks for beta testing, I couldn't stomach it today. Can't believe this is not a higher priority to fix.

PS. I am happy with the shadows on my PS4. :D

No problem guys; thanks to Stinja and Pzyko for helping out.

Trouble is, for me OldDuck, there just aren’t that many other games out I enjoy as much as ED. I’ve got big hopes for RDR 2 tho…

I think I’ve reached that point as well Duck. I’m beyond frustrated today. They were suppose to be doing QOL this year and instead we have just gotten guardian and thargoid updates. I thought q4 last year was the big thargoid update? On top of that the challenger is a blatant hey let’s put a spoiler on the chief and call it a new ship. The last thing and what I consider the biggest explicitive FDev has given me as a gamer was the way in which our pmf was handled.

We went thru their process of getting our pmf entered in game. They then said descriptions would be added at a later date. Well they care today. Instead of the synopsis we crafted, they changed it to say Black Void is a group of pirates, smugglers, slavers. Basically eh, they’re anarchy. To me it screams they no longer care.

I’m out for a bit and I can’t say for certain but unless there is a PowerPlay update in q4 I’m probably done.

Side note, chapter 4 will get a PC beta.

That's not going to help with a PS4 (and Xbox?) only issue, as PC players can get more than 2 players in SRVs at once.

So we'd be looking at:
- PC beta "goes well"
- PS4 port branched from PC code
- PS4 patch goes live
- PS4 players clump in their SRVs and promptly crash again.

While FDev say they are aware of the issue, i'm not sure if they've ever confirmed they can recreate it on dev-kit (to get better logging).

Anyway Firewall: Zero Hour out now, I think i'm going to play that for a bit. It has consensual PvP, so I might self-grief myself!

This is my biggest issue with the whole debacle to be honest, I have prompted, poked and asked nicely for Ed, Lloyd, Will and Steve Kirby to try doing this on their own machines if they are struggling to get it to happen at FDev towers, as they all own PS4 consoles at home and could spend 30 minutes, they could even ask FDev to pay OT ;). I have never had any of them confirm they can get this crash. As we know we can reproduce it at will.

If FDev cannot reproduce this in house, then its potentially some networking issue going on but, they must have literally 100s of blue screen PS4 reports (I must have done 30 plus myself), with videos which should give detailed debug stuff. I honestly am at a loss why this has been going on since 3.0 dropped with very little comment back apart from they are looking into it, even the latest update was much of the same....

Hear, hear!

Subnautica is coming to PS4 later this year. I've never played it, but I've seen videos and read comments that say it's a pretty amazing game similar to ED but underwater.

But FWIW, I was in the same boat back when 2.4 dropped with its minecraft textures. I just wasn't in the mood to play the games I used to play before ED. SkyrimVR and then later nice weather finally helped me break my ED addiction. Now I fly like a drunkard because I've lost my ED muscle memory

I don’t believe for one minute they can’t replicate it when every single one of us, with two friends, can.
Even the known issues list says ‘may experience’. No, will experience, because it happens EVERY time, unavoidable.

It worked perfectly prior to 3.0, now it doesn’t, so it doesn’t take a forensic coder to figure out where to start.

As Stormy excellently summed up, it's not about how difficult this is to fix. It's the fact they haven't confirmed it yet that is so frustrating. All we get is platitudes.

Can't get it to reproduce at FDev towers? Plenty of Frontier PS4 players/willing PS4 players/PS4 bug reports to prove this is an issue which we plebs can reproduce 100% of the time
Complicated to fix? No problem. Just confirm it's a bug, at least we know they believe us then.

There's a lot more stuff that a games company with good customer service could do but I'm not even going to waste my time typing as Frontier just aren't that type of company.

I don't have any issues with the fact that it's a complex bug which is difficult to fix. I highly suspect that the code at fault here was written by a person or people who are no longer at the company and no one wants to touch it with a barge pole. Or that fixing it has other dependencies that just don't warrant fixing it. Or that they're only really looking at the PS5 version as let's face it a PS5 version will bring new money in; fixing bugs in the PS4 version is just throwing money into a black hole. As much as you may not like this it's just how things are sometimes. There are a lot of people affected by this who have been the biggest standard bearers for the PS4 version since day one and slowly but surely they are being alienated. It's a damn shame.

Part of me is hoping that the reason for this frustrating episode is that the planetary changes planned for 3.3 will fix this issue and FDev have deemed it a waste of resources to fix before then.

Otherwise, I hope a fix is planned very soon.

One of the most enjoyable experiences for me in this game was when a few friends and I explored the Guardian ruins together prior to 3.0.

There is so much of this Guardian update that I could enjoy but Im just not going to bother. Yeah, I could do it in solo but that is just not the same for me.

That would explain a great many things.

Subnautica is a great game, it's just a shame there's no multiplayer and the XB1 console port has been pretty bad performance wise. Fortunately the developers have recognised that they've dropped the ball and the same people that are doing the PS4 port are helping them fix their XB1 port.

As with ED, once the developers get their act together it'll be nice to go back to it.
