Not IF but WHY discussion around modes in the BGS

I don't buy the "it's all PvP so you should do all of it or none of it" stance.

People can use PvP in defence - if the attacker chooses to attack in Open, at a time when defenders are present, in the same instance and on the same platform. It's not a requirement of any attacker to do attack in Open though.

You can not buy it. If you are affecting another group of people intentionally, taking away their system. ITs PVP Robert.

That depends on what you mean by "grind".

Grinding is doing something repetitively and is in general, a boring activity.

I'll give you an example of this. Sitting and hiding in normal space with multiple wings while a non-winged member tries to bait your opponent. Even when the opponent falls for the trap, they see an instance with 11 or so ships and high wake.

How about getting the call to assist a group member and dropping what you're doing, only to arrive at an empty system? This has happened more times than I can count. Waste of time.

Agree there. Happens to me on stream all the time. Deosnt mean they cant make changes to fix this though.

The technology is there.

They built a game around this aspect. Are they going to make it work? Seems so with those proposed powerplay changes. The same would apply.

No it isn't, is me putting my Elixir of Pap on the WoW auction house for one less silver than you PVP then 90's? - because I'll tell you what I am yet to hear anyone on games with such a system claim that it is.

I could - but I was trying to limit to things that might have an alternative in-game solution to "open only/enhanced"

There is none. You should have the chance to see and face your attackers.

If you are trying to keep the player factions unable to defend themselves from an attack.

There is something seriously wrong with the people playing this game.

All because they dont want to be shot at or defended against while they attack another player group.

... They cant because the game heavily favors the person or group in private and solo doing the attacking....

It doesn't.

...

Expect big changes to come with it, especially with how 1 click transactions are and how imbalanced it is for group gameplay...

Already addressed - there is a cap on activities.

...No one can defend themselves properly here.

Yes, everybody can. By playing the BGS. Working as intended.

You still do not get it do you. They are not attacking a player group. They are supporting a rival NPC faction or attacking an NPC faction. It may happen that a player group supports that faction, that is all. Why do you think you have a right to punch someone in the face if they are doing nothing illegal.

If the game had been pitched as a multi-player only PvP enabled game then this particular discussion would not be happening - as the game should not (reasonably) have attracted players seeking a purely PvE experience.

As it is, the game offers three game modes, only two of which are multi-player, that all affect the same shared galaxy state - and some players that have bought the game don't like that fact.

It does,

The attacker gets to choose the mode, how long the attack lasts, and the type of attack that happens.

What does the defend get to do? Undo everything the attacker does. But has no chance to stop them from following through.

Put them in an open only environment. You can stop your attackers. Send them to a rebuy screen. Work together as a team using various engineering and modules.

People have too many options and in this case, heavily favored for the attacker.

The only thing the defender gets is a greater influence gains the closer they are to 0.

You're one claiming that you want to counter actions using PVP, then you go and redefine PVP to mean something that can happen in any mode.

Gun, meet foot. Foot, gun.

What? I literally said his actions should only affect him and no one else. Lay off the pipe.

Well screw it, as arguments are the only thing this forum ever has seemed to grasp.

BGS effects more than just your immediate game, it's PvE right up until the point where it starts effecting other people's game, then, I'm afraid kiddos, it becomes a PvP activity.

Hence why people don't like the idea of people not being out in visible veiw doing what they do.

Let's be honest here, considering the vast number of people who are utterly phobic of social interation in an online game, do you really think you stand to be blasted out the sky every two seconds by your fellow PvEers? Because you won't. Why? Because they think like you.

And as for the threat of PvPers.. They are hugely the minority, if there is more people populating open play, the odds of you even being targeted drop SIGNIFICANTLY.

Anything that has the potential to effect anyone else's game, should be mode locked to open play. Why? Because it is NOT a one man band activity.

It's that simple.

I really wish FDev would stop worrying about what thir player base will do in spite, and just make the damn move already.

Games changed maynard. New things were added. Rules should and WILL be adjusted around it.

The game then doesnt have what we have now.
