Not IF but WHY discussion around modes in the BGS

Indeed, and in elite its option. If the attacker chooses to get his pieces removed.

I guess it depends if they are a nice attacker or not.

Maybe a psychopathic one because they like getting shot at.

No the current BGS mechanics dont allow any pieces to be removed from the table. All pieces stay on the table. In a round robin circle jerk of system wars.

So there is no winner ever. So what is the point of forcing PvP on people if nobody looses or wins anyway.

Which pieces *would* be removed from the table if PMFs were only able to be affected* by players in Open? There's still no permanent "win" condition.

*: determining exactly what constitutes "affecting" a PMF might be quite challenging....

Yes, they do. You just don't understand what the pieces are in the BGS game.

In chess, the removal of pieces is not the goal, but rather a means to an end. If E|D is chess, your suggestions would just turn the game into Checkers. Why turn E|D into a one dimensional pew-fest when we already have a diverse mechanism to manipulate? PvP is not important enough to dismantle the BGS over. Try and use the tools already given. You, and every player, have ample tools to apply influence to the BGS, you just don't like the mechanism. That's not a good enough reason to ditch what we have now.

With PVP there would be wins or losses. Assets and credits could be drained. Influence and Rep. This would also prompt more movement through out the BGS in places like colonia. We wouldnt have 8 month BGS wars. There would be progression past that point.

As of right now, that player faction request that hit the forums a couple days ago. Jane and others put up.

They had some pretty good suggestions about cooldowns, who was attacking whom, mission runners. All sorts of things.

Really really good stuff for BGS groups, Hell powerplay even.

But the lack of defense makes all that info useless. What are we gonna do. Look at the numbers real hard? Watch their own group fight for first place because you cant stop them?

Get real.

Assets would be very unlikely to be affected. Credits maybe a little bit - however, I've made sure to retain my starter ship, in zero credit rebuy condition, on all bar one of my alt-CMDRs - so credits not so much (as a starter ship can still run data deliveries....

Dont fly without rebuy! How many times you heard that?

This is perfectly real - a perfectly "real" game where PvP is not dominant (and was not designed to be).

You can run the BGS game entirely on your Cheapwinder. Even more so now with all the power creep brought among the players. There is no loss of assets with infinite respawning ships. The whole idea is silly.

If it drained peoples assets and credits and can see people not bothering with the BGS at all. It would just become another failure of a system which nobody in their right mind would want it be a part of. Then that leads to the game failing again.

You are really not looking at the big picture at all. All you are doing is looking at what you personally want. Just because it is what you want doesn't mean it will be good or a success. So far the BGS is a success and works very well, not perfect though.

They tried that gameplay in Powerplay and it is an utter failure. That maybe because it is in all three modes, but it maybe because most people are just not interested in that kind of gameplay.

You make a lot of assumptions to back up your ideas. You shouldn't as assumptions have a habit of blowing up in your face especially if they are not thought through enough.

Do they really blow up in my face? Or do I really know whats going on here?

Im gonna go ahead and go with I know whats going on here for 10000000000 Alex Trebek.

lol sigh. Never change maynard. Im starting to like you. In it for the long haul. I like it.

This is the fun part - the long haul was between the KS being funded and the game's release (with intermediate stops in DDF, Alpha, Premium Beta, Beta, Gamma....).
