No fire zone is meant to stop griefers, which if we remember there are bunch of them out there with other people.

So how then stop them hm? Without 'fire zone'?

My dude, I know you mean well. But there is a time and place. Lecturing people isnt going to make it any different. Frontier have no jail cell closer. They likely forgot, as they have a habit of doing.

So, there's a big swathe of permit locked sectors going roughly between Pleiades and Cone. We already know from multiple sources that these locks are Thargoid-related. When the Barnacles showed up, Frontier said that they could also be found in their "home nebula" - which no-one ever found. "Cone is where the Thargoids come from" is a pretty obvious conclusion to draw, even if it wasn't all nicely labelled on the map.

And now you try to jump a carrier with thousands of ships on board including an entire AX-armed fleet and its support to what's probably the Thargoid homeworlds. Sure, you say, it's just a peaceful exploration trip - just going to scan some systems, collect some research materials, take a few photos.

Turns out the aliens have studied human history and know what that sort of exploration trip is a euphemism for.

Pretty much this..

And to all the CMDR's ending up in a prison colony after killing a Thargoid and die.. i say.. GOOD!:D

Not at all. Fire discharge is fined no matter do you hit anything or not. You really can't say "but I shoot at this Thargoids sir", nor it can turned off because of griefers.

Just get out of fire zone and then approach them.

Except... like the very clever bugs they are, the Scouts are largely staying inside the no-fire zone

Pretty much this..

I am terrible with fixed weapons.

Get a fine for firing and missing.
Get reduced to 30% hull.
Get destroyed before reaching the landing pad.

Get sent to prison colony anyway.

Guess I'll be playing Final Fantasy XV tonight, I really can't be bothered to even fly my Viper mkIV back to the bubble.

Say what you will about Square but at least they know how to make a game.

Yes it's a complete clusterflub, slammed servers, bugged instancing, bugged AI, crime and punishment design flaws, and the fact the whole situation has pulled a 180 from exploration to combat.

So, par for the course for Fdev.

So you're saying that us Explorers got shafted again? It's just a pewpewfest.

If that's the case, then I won't bother logging in after the game updates.

I'm with this guy, I find the whole thing interesting, and also the Far God cg station got hit. I wasn't interested in the Gnosis but I'm now heading straight there just to see what's going on

It seems a number of game mechanics have combined to form a bad situation for all...

1) No-Fire Zone

There's probably no way for FDEV to make an exception to the No Fire Zone for individual Megaships and Starports, due to modular code (e.g. there's probably a Starport() class, a Megaship() class etc. and there's more than likely not been some kind of "NFZ Exemption" code added to them). This means you'll get fined and as has already been the case - sent back to the nearest detention facility.

2) Still no code has apparently been written such that Megaships/Starports attack nearby Goids

3) Still apparently no Goid code written specifically to attack nearby Starports/Megaships

4) Currently Goids only attack CMDRs

5) C&P system is only doing what it's been coded to do - i.e. send "naughty" CMDRs back to the nearest detention facility.

Create amazing content! Yay! Punish people for enjoying it! Yay!

Enough said. This was an oversight, and a HORRIBLE one, a truly disastrous EPICALLY proportioned one. Even knowing you like I do, I'm actually STUNNED you can be so blase about this. Truly pathetic effort by FD. They deliver the content and it's great, and then people start getting sent home. No, no, no. There's only one way to call this. Sorry, there is nothing you can say that will change my mind.

FDEV YOU HAVE SO MANY PROBLEMS AT THE GNOSIS!

1. The no fire zone exists. You incur fines, your fighter incurs fines for you, and if you die, you get sent to the slammer.
2. The Thargoids are sitting inside the no fire zone and do not want to budge. I flew within 2KM of one and it would not budge.
3. The Gnosis actively shoots down remote flak.
4. The Gnosis does not actively engage targets, however it will instagib the Regenerator scouts that fire off their healing pulse.

Its more interesting then i thought it would be. Shame about the no-firezone fines being a thing while trying to defend.

Maybe gonna build a xeno courier then.. or take my conda calamity 001..

So as you can't fight them properly...and as the Galnet Article already told us the solution...anyone brought some meta alloys to drop for them? ^^

EDIT: that might be a possibility to lure them away from the no fire zone too. ;)

Sent to the detention center for defending the ship,
You will not be sent to detention centre for definding the ship.Criminal Player characters will be respawned in detention if the ship is destoryed, or if they hand themselves in and pay outstanding bounties once notoriety is cleared.

Sure, I mean technically "emergent gameplay(TM)" - complex consequences appearing as a result of apparently unrelated gameplay mechanisms. And detention centres were originally a player request to make C&P tougher (haha).

And it's understandable that any "live" event like this where there's literally only one chance to get it right is going to have issues beyond just the instancing collapsing. At least it didn't get hyperdicted on the other side of the lock and it is possible to get back again.

But, it is still a terrible mess.

The correct fix is probably: fines don't send you to a detention centre if you don't also have bounties. But that's going to take a while.

The fix they can probably apply in a hurry is: add a new Anarchy faction "Canonn Martial Law" to the Gnosis and give it control of the station to disable the NFZ ... and all crimes in the system too, but that's probably the lesser evil at this stage.

An alternative possible fix: emergency patch to add a detention centre a couple of systems away, or to give the Gnosis itself the "is a detention centre" flag.

Fox, you arent even on the gnosis..

Ok. How do you fix it then?
If I would be FDev, I would program states to station/ship C&P. This one is "emergency state" and the ship has bigger fishes to fry ;-). That said, I'm not FDev, so it's on them to fix.

That said people, cut them (FDevs) some slack here. They're trying to make things interesting using the tools they have available, or using experimental ones. Mishaps will happen, and probably get sorted out in the New Era of Thargoid Full Scale Powerplay 2.0 ;-))) [duck & run].

Dont get too excited. I'm sure it's taking everything frontier has just to keep the instances stable. Yummy or not.
That makes it even more yummy, #rememberSalami - magnitude - yummy :D I am pretty sure Dav and his team are watching all the server graphs veeery closely now :D

The thargoids are inside the NFZ. Apparently they have report crimes on. So engaging will make you a criminal. But I'm sure only bad people are being sent to detention.

Oh.

Hi there folks,

We should have an update on the Gnosis soon.

In the meantime, we'd like to thank you for the reports regarding being destroyed before launch, fire zone transgressions (and Thargoid proximity) and Solo/Open players being mixed together. The team are presently investigating and we hope to have more information for you soon.
