Distant Worlds II - Fleet Roster Sign Up Thread

So say we all. I'm so tired of waiting for info about exploration that even my zest for the DWE2 is beginning to falter. The cut fleet carriers, delayed (cut?) ice planets, and recent Gnosis fiasco has me feeling more bitter than I already have been for the past year.

I just want some good exploration news for a change. [sad]

*pats*

It'll come, buddy, it'll come. Worst case scenario, we push DW2 to Q4 3306 :D

I feel that the organizers should let us know if this is going to be another Gnosis because I'm not interested anymore unless I'm reassured that this will be a straight up and not some ruse and we get attacked when it starts.

I do not foresee any unforeseen events like this happening, least of all because it would require some effort to implement. And to what end? ;)

Keep in mind that Beagle Point isn't in a contested, permit locked region of space. :)

Also, to the best of my knowledge, this expedition/galactic tour is for explorers by explorers, not a xeno-centric research group.

I think don't think this is likely to happen for one major reason

DWII is not trying to circumvent game mechanics by trying to jump to locked sectors, its not trying to force FDEV to reveal content not yet in game.
The whole GNOSIS thing was Brilliant, totally unexpected and it knocked CANONN down a peg or two which was greatly needed in my opinion.

Don't worry. We don't want it to be like that either.

At the moment we're awaiting feedback on the proposals we've sent to FD, so we're just as in the dark about it as you are. That feedback will determine whether the event needs some rewrites, proceeds as planned, or is postponed indefinitely. But our emphasis has always been on exploration, prospecting & mining, the CGs (the core aspects), and hopefully some form of logistical support for the flagship (as that promotes some interesting gameplay events). The peripheral events and roles we've written are built around those core aspects, so that's what we want to promote and incorporate into this expedition above all else.

Look what I found in the Frontier store. I've literally been waiting years for this on the Python. :D

OTOH, "us" explorers have been petitioning FDev for a long time now to add more exploration content. They may also remember the disappointment some of us felt during DWE(1) where there was some hinting that we'd find something special during the expedition and we never did. Either we were just unlucky, or (more likely) FDev didn't manage to get that something special in place in time for the expedition.

Given that, the popularity of DWE2, and in combination with the Q4 update (fingers crossed), it might be feasible that FDev have prepared -something- for us to find this time around. And there's no guarantee it will be just something nifty to look at/scan, instead of something potentially dangerous (whether natural or alien). In fact, given FDev's propensity for pew-pew it's more likely the latter. Then again, they might think twice after the GNOSIS backlash.

Regardless, I'll be working on more of a multi-role outfit for my ship instead of a max-jumprange one, just like last time around.

While this is completely unconfirmed, if DW2 can get a Megaship into play with Shipyard (transfer) functionality, we could actually carry multiple roles per player, allowing exploration AND mining, etc.

Oh Lordy, I hope not. It really wouldn't be in the spirit of Distant Worlds if we could all bring our personalised fleet of highly specialised ships for every eventuality. Outfitting, maybe, so we can refit where appropriate, but I think half the fun of it is choosing a role and a ship to fulfil it.

There are thousands of us. We shouldn't all be able to do everything.

How can I check out of the expedition? In those several months that have passed since I had signed up I've become pretty sure that I wouldn't join the event. I don't want to distort the statistics and plans, so...

....and truckers
....and fleet mechanics
....and rock rats
....and photographers

xeno bashers don't appear to be an advertised role.
