Hardware & Technical Computer Build to run Elite Dangerous

I'd save a little bit on different RAM - that CPU only officially supports 1600 and you don't really get much benefit from running anything faster.

Well, my i7 4770K runs nice with exact same RAM, got XMP profile for it & it works great. That Ark site gives 4770 same RAM support as 4970...

And last time I checked, the price difference between 1600 MHz set & 2400 Mhz set was about 4€, so not much saving there. :)

I put together a new system in November last year.

The aim for having a system which would do me well without any major upgrades for atleast another couple of years, aswell as playing the latest in the X series, X-Rebirth..
However, I only played it once or twice when it had only recently come out, and I did not really enjoy it that much at all. I guess I should have given it more of a chance, but the bugs just turned me off.

My main system specs are:

CPU: AMD FX 4300 Quad Core 3.8GHz
RAM: 2X 8GB G-SKillz Ripjaws 2133MHz
GPU: Leadtek GeForce GTX 680 4GB
MB: ASUS M5A99FX-PRO-R2 Motherboard

Fujitsu S302 256GB SSD as system and program files drive
Seagate Barracuda 4TB ST4000DM000 as archive drive

This runs Elite on (the current) max settings with no problem whatsoever from what I can see.

Total including case and PSU was, about $1500AUD, or about $1400USD, or $840GBP.

My rig is kind of old, but runs Elite Dangerous with out any problems at all. :)

CPU: Intel i7 930
GPU: Radeon HD 7970
Screen: 2560x1080 (21:9)
Memory: 12GB DDR3
OS: Windows 8.1 Pro

Budget Rig for Elite Dangerous

I have decided to build a budget gaming rig just to run ED and cant spend more that £300. This is what I have come up with, im after suggestions for improvements or if this will be adequate:

CPU - K Anniversary G3258
BOARD - MSI H81M-P33 IMotherboard
COOLER - Hyper 212 EVO Quiet CPU Cooler
PSU - EVGA 500W 80 Plus
RAM - 4GB (2x2GB) Corsair Value Select 1333MHz
Case - Sharkoon VS3-S Chrome Black Midi Tower Gaming Case

This lot comes to £190

The remaining budget blown on:

GPU - Palit GeForce GTX 750 T or AMD Radeon R9 270 (after I seeing above post)

I have not built a PC for 6 years and am out of touch with current components and have come up with this through research. I would be grateful if anyone could advise of potential compatability issues or problems running ED well.

Cheers

I have an i3-3220, which I presume is in the same ballpark as the g3258.

Also 4gb ram.

Also GTX 750 ti (2gb).

At 1920 x 1200 with everything on high except bobblehead and lens flare off, I get 30-60fps.

Not sure if the g3258 has hyperthreading or not - if not then perhaps that may have an impact.

The G3258 only has two threads, whereas the i3-3220 has four threads (and is about twice the price, I think).

Oh yeah... welcome aboard, Tubergrip.

Thanks for welcome and replies. The G3258 does not support Hyperthreading and although it only has 2 I think the 2 cores can be overclocked to 4.5. Will 2 cores and not supporting hyperthreading limit playing ED or will the decent GPU bail it out? I need to keep the build under £300 and this is the best I can come up with. Would have liked I2500K but can not bring it in on budget.

Don't know I'm afraid - you could search the forum for "dual core" and see if anything relevant comes up.

It should be fine, this massive thread might give an idea of what you can expect - http://www.overclock.net/t/1500524/intel-pentium-g3258-performance-and-owners-thread

As an aside, a new R9 270 would qualify for 2 free games in AMD's 'never settle' pack, they have a space themed pack coming out at the beginning of September - http://hexus.net/gaming/news/pc/736...ce-edition-adds-alien-isolation-star-citizen/

Can I run it?

This is probably the wrong place to post this, I don't think I can run this game but somebody please tell me otherwise, it looks amazing. Thanks!

Specs: Intel Core i5-2340M CPU @2.40GHz 6.00 GB of RAM

New computer

Hi,
If I buy Elite dangerous and then upgrade my comouter later, do I have to buy the game again?
Really keen to get started but might be 6month or more before compouter upgrade.

Thanks

I was due to buy a new workstation laptop anyway, so got one that would also handle Elite (hopefully!)

Lenovo Y510p with i7, 8GB RAM and dual GT750m SLI gfx adaptors.

Plays very nicely at 1080 with everything on max, haven't had a chance to check FPS yet, but thats only running one card so far as I don't believe SLI is up and running yet.

Red backlit keys really give that cockpit feel once you've got the lights turned out and it connected to the 40" LED on HDMI, and the surround cranked up... ;)
