Opinions on combat logging

Well, the biggest problem with the game is all the "social care bears" that want to form player groups or wing groups only to go around bullying single players.
I'll give you a good example here...
I flew into a system one day with a little ASP (AKA - The Baron Hellcat). I was interdicted by a guy (cmdr Fly Auburn, of a pansy group called "The Code"). He was flying a Krait, and had a wing buddy with him. Obviously I wasn't going to remotely be a match for two of them. (And, he knew that too.)
So, he wasted me...
I thought... okay, that's just the breaks I suppose... I'll just go after him a little later, with a ship of closer combat capability.
So, later that day, I jumped in my Fer De Lance (AKA "The Jolly Roger").
I found him again, and tried to interdict him, but like the I knew he was going to be, he tried evading and broke the interdiction.

So, I told him "Ah hah!! You're not so tough now that I'm not in a little ASP."
It seemed he had to think about it a little bit, before he decided to interdict me again. Only I submitted. And low and behold, it was him and his wing buddy on me again!
So, I logged out.

I don't do combat logging when the fight is a fair, 1 on 1 battle.
But, when you have a bunch of losers playing in groups and bullying the solo guys, then I can't blame some people for combat logging.

I've been playing the game for a long time now, and I find that more times than not I will waste any single fighter that encounters me. Yes... I am that good, if you care to challenge me fairly.
Too bad there aren't more players like me (the anti social, and solo guy) in this game anymore.

Would need at least 2,8% players logging on each other per day, to be feasible.
/cynism.

With the number of posts on the topic, one could be forgiven for thinking 2.8% of players do not log... (I suspect the real number is closer to 0.028% do, but I don't really know)

You mean you don't take everyone at their word on the forums when they say they never combat log?

I'mma be honest when they changed the AI in 2.1, and I was in my terrible Anaconda that I'd just bought I had to menu log or get wasted by the fully automatic plasma accelerator.

Haven't logged since then.

Mind you I didn't have a computer for 12 months either so it's not like I could log in to log out

Nah, I've been around too long for that.

Personally I have never logged (not that anyone should take my word for it - see above), but I have crashed to desktop on occasion. Lost a ship because of it too if I recall.
I've also not had any player log on me that I've noticed, but then I do fail to notice things, and I rarely instigate combat anyway.

I prefer the peace of solo, and big groups for socialising, though I prefer to be social in RL and play games on my own. Last time I spent more than a few minutes in open was when the Guardian Ruins were first discovered. There were more people around in Mobius to be honest.

Ooh, I did have a spate of a couple of months when I would ctd every time *reproducable* that I got a kill shot on a npc Conda. Not sure if that counts as NPCs logging on me or not. FD fixed it eventually.

I like playing games by myself although I like interacting with people in ED online.

When I was super bored of everything I decided to try piracy, outfitted my Cutter, spent the millions on all the parts, got a few lines of dialogue ready to go and wasted about 6 hours at various rare trade routes/CGs.

Two people in that timeframe dropped some loot.

Everyone else "disappeared" after a successful interdiction (not failure to connect us upon interdiction - P2P sucks)

In the end, I'm more concerned about the possibility of BGS interaction being open only, since the results of it affect all modes. That would probably drive me away from the game faster than any amount of PvP vs PvE or gankers vs carebears nonsense.

Hmm yeah, as I said earlier I'm not really involved in any of that. But I can see it would suck for every member of the PG/Solo group to see their contribution made meaningless...

this brings us back to your point that "maybe it shouldn't have been an online game in the first place"... or that perhaps each solo/private group started their own "server" where the events played out as they have in "open" in real time??

Then it'd just be a single player game but it at least we wouldn't have half of these arguments...

Maybe I'll make my own game, with blackjack and hookers.

Essentially Combat Logging and Griefing would only be legitimately reportable under the "Other" category. The more specific categories would notionally be provable based on single reports and a simple inspection of available logs.

You've been around here enough to know that 'other' means attacking Frontiers chosen players in exactly the same manner you do normal ones. Woe betide the chosen few having their gameplay interrupted.

ED would be way better if it was a single player or co-op game. With a dedicated PvP mode on the side.

PvP balance is a total pain to balance, and even more so if it's mixed with PvE.

Logically speaking, taking PvP combat (not BGS) entirely out of the equation is probably the least damaging move for ED, and solves nearly every major problem ED has in one go.

That said, I kinda enjoy most of my unwanted PvP interactions. Even if I die from it, it's far more exciting than any PvE interaction due to the lame NPCs providing no real threat, and being incredibly predictable.

Different topic entirely now though...

I'll still never intentionally combat log on anyone, I'd rather see how it plays out, then torture myself with my poor decision making skills later on. :p

You know, considering the topic, this thread, particularly that last few pages have been way too civilised for this forum. Is something up or are people just tired of arguing?

If they removed PvP I imagine most pirates would quit since it's a massive waste of time in PvP atm, nevermind if we had to pirate NPCs carrying biowaste God forbid

the guy who riles me up hasn't posted in a while. it'll be back to its usual posting when he returns I'm sure.

There used to be a guy on here that had a one person crusade to rid the world of anyone who fired on another player or didn't but had the audacity to defend someone that did. That guy was really intense, like obsessively intense. I think he got banned several times.

I did wonder if he got another account and it is the person Smaste was talking about, although the intensity is not quite on that level yet
