Opinions on combat logging

Insurance matters not a jot what what is insured is unavailable.
tbh i kinda agree that it shouldn't be insurable from a universe standpoint

but f me I'm not grinding back to god knows what with the blue haired babe just to get my prismatic shield while she tells me it's morally wrong to trade slaves.

I didn't enslave them fgs, I just transported them.

wow that's the most british thing I've ever said

They are clearly available, as the rebuy screen tells you.
Which breaches the RPG.
If a faction will still supply to an enemy, then the system is broken.
If you take advantage, its an exploit
And is the same as a menu log... Ie not a cheat vs the rules but any sane player sees it as such.

The faction supplies the insurance broker.

Hmm conversely we've been selling weapons to our enemies for a long time in the real world... or at least they make it under the table.

Maybe if there was a "finders fee" tacked onto the 'stolen goods' it could be explained away easily.

I had 15 people long in a 2 hour session.
15 individuals who may not menu or combat log under normal circumstances, if you were targeting haulers and sidewinders (even in just an iEagle) then I am not surprised about it. They were bound to be relatively new players and the natural assumption would be seal clubbing is the intent under those circumstances, regardless of the ship used.

If they menu logged then they were doing nothing wrong though.

If the individuals combat logged, then there is the fact that a pattern has to be established to determine intent. 15 incidents against you by 15 individuals does not count, except perhaps against you that is.

Neither weapon themselves are cheating... But both together?
They are gifts for being allied to mutually exclusive PP factions.

By the closing years of the Cold War there were at least thirty nation states that weren't on good terms with either superpower that had arsenals bought or given to them by both.

Shortsighted military decisions in arming allies of convenience were, and are, par for the course in the real world. The US will happily arm the enemies of their enemies, even if they strongly suspect those weapons will be used against them in the near future. Russia isn't any better.

Real mercenaries going as far back as recorded history, have often rapidly changed sides, and been provided for lavishly, for whomever they happened to be working for at the moment.

It's not particularly implausible for PP factions in Elite to be equally shortsighted, or simply focused on quantity and expediency, when trying to attract CMDRs to their cause.

The fact that most all of the PP modules are sidegrades or incremental upgrades to existing components also means there is little incentive to thoroughly vet someones loyalty before handing out the goodies. If they show up in the hands of enemies later, so what?

It's what I'm trying to say, tho wine isn't helping.
It's fair by elite rules but obviously unfair
As is menu logging

Which is why I claim the person using different PP weaps is a cheat.
They might not have ever been lost, but nobody wins every fight without an advantage

you completely misrepresented what he said.

he SPECIFICALLY said that NEW PLAYERS DID NOT LOG.

Players in *better* ships logged.

try reading next time pls.

I haven't read it since he posted it and I remembered that fgs

All's fair in love and war or so they say.

So why do you still need to sign up to $faction to get them?

Egads, if we were to discuss faction disputes and immersion breakers, why not the fact that you can be friendly with everyone all the time, too?

King rank in the Imperial Navy? Great, here's your FDS- no problem! Oh go ahead and dock, even though you just destroyed 6 Federation Navy ships as part of a mission 5 minutes ago.

that's why I refuse to buy a Federal Corvette.

well that's a lie I just cbf to grind out the last two ranks.

Makes for a good excuse though.

*blows up 100 minor faction ships in CZ*

*checks mission board*

"Cmdr Bob Lighthouse!
So pleased to see you!"

they do have a tendency to prefer the unfair in all facets of gameplay... or at least that's what I've come to understand from the forum lol

I agree
And I can accept PP bonuses, but only the one you are currently signed up for
More is cheating
Logging is cheating
AltF4 against the letter
Menu against the spirit... Just like multiple PP weapons

And not one ounce of it really makes any logical sense, IMO

When you really dig into the faction disputes and alliances... it's all just illusion, and has no real value or purpose beyond what sort of credit amounts you'll earn by gaining reputation with said factions. At the end of the day, if you're Allied with all 3 you can simply fly around wherever you please with not a care in the world.

The "Blue Donut" of Elite.

GUTAMAYA SIERRA MIKE ALPHA PROCEED TO LANDING PAD 10

SEE YOU IN THE BLACK COMMANDERS

I assumed it was down to my charisma... guess I was wrong.

Lore wise, probably licensing, patents, and IP that are generally enforced by multi-national entities, like the Pilots Federation and Bank of Zaonce.

Gameplay wise, lack of any significant salvage mechanism.
