Why i picked ED not SC

This has got to be told so maybe the developers might get something from this.
see i'm not really interested in spaceship simulator, now playing the game i regret not doing so earlier but the whole reason why i decided to get this is really in two parts: Business and Gameplay

When looking at the business model of Star Citizen one thinks to himself "what the hell are you thinking" now see the problem isn't that some of the ships literally cost 300$(i lied it is a problem) but the true problem is that you have to pay insurance for the ship in the game to actually keep it, lets take moment to indulge this...you pay, lets say, for a ship that costs 80$ like the aurora i believe, you go fly it around abit and after thinking to yourself "i just spent 80$ on a digital ship" you then come across a NPC with a pirating habit, you get in a firefight with said NPC and then you get your ship destroyed, but oh shucks you forgot and/or didn't pay for life insurance. you know what that means? YOU LOST YOUR DIGITAL 80$ SHIP FOREVER!!!! and insurance for your ship literally means "paying money to keep your money" - really think about that. this is real money not "in game made credits" these are credits bought in real life.
now no one who plays this and loses a ship will never want to play the game ever again after losing 80$....this is the same way eve died out. and was dead to most people. except that hardcore fans.

i do not have a problem spending good amount of money on a game I spent 60$ on max payne 3 and i played it for 4 hours, i was happy with it. now ive already spent at least 30 hours on this beta and damn happy for it. i will literally spend 300$ on it if they included at least 2 full sized hand crafted detailed cities and procedural generation like settlements on other planets. simply said if i can spend hours and hours just on the city doing stuff there like exploring and other activities. i will literally never leave the game. thus 300$ is nothing. since ive spent at least 60$ on 10 games and spent all together 15 hours on 7 of them.......

Gameplay: now i'm not going to judge atm the alpha of SC. but i will judge what they have told us. they won't i repeat wont have actually planet landings they will have isolated landings on planets and have mass effect like places to vist. meaning only a few rooms. or a small area with a backdrop of a city. this does not constitute as a "GTA" in space. the sec i heard that there will be planet landings and cities and everything that SC has but better (basically) i bought the game. then i told my friends about this. they bought the game.
GTA in space is a wetdream for everyone who ever watched star wars, star trek, firefly/ serenity.

anyone else want to chime in on why they love ED more?

May I politely request that you stop using the darker colours on the dark background?

I'm colourblind (quite a few others here as well!) and it is very difficult to read what you've written when you change the colours. I'd suggest just making the text that you want to emphasize bold rather than a different colour.

Thank you :)

Wait... what?
Is that true?
I am not too familiar with SC's business model, as I immediately turned my back on it when I saw virtual ships for a couple of hundred bucks and the ridiculously out-of-control-hype that emerged around this "next gen space simulation" that is, for now, nothing but a wet dream with some nice models - but nothing else.

However, is what you said really the case? Players have to insure their virtual multi-hundred dollar ships with real money to prevent the irreversable loss of these ships?

I have no words for how ridiculous that is to be honest.

However, I picked up Elite because a friend annoyed the heck out of me for several months with it, telling me how awesome it is etc.
I didn't listen until recently. And I am glad I finally did.

Elite has the potential of becoming a true mile stone in the game industry, again... without scamming its customers.

Oh dear, where to begin...

400.000.000.000 star systems instead of... much less then 400.000.000.000. An open world instead of one big arena. A community to blend in with, instead one to fight against. The good memories I have playing Elite as a kid, who thought (and still thinks) Elite is the best game ever made and played (and is still not sure why). A company who delivers instead of endless postponing. For being stubborn and sticking to an idea. To name a few..

I as part of my backers reward have life time insurance on my ships..

So it is one of these twiddling with features that can alienate a community, the uproar in the ED community with insurance rewards to the Alpha backers would be nothing in comparison to players getting the likes of Lifetime insurance.

I am excited to see where Star Citizen goes, and look forward to it greatly.. but my heart has been stolen forever by Elite Dangerous, the passion, the people, the game... the fictions the Conventions , the meets, the friends, the podcasts... I am home.

I'm pretty sure you are only buying ships with real money now during the alpha phase as a way to help fund the game.

As far as I know when the game launches you will buy the game and then you can only buy ships with in game currency (like ED).

However, is what you said really the case? Players have to insure their virtual multi-hundred dollar ships with real money to prevent the irreversable loss of these ships?

Yes it's true. For a limit time the those ships came with life time insurance (LTI), meaning the ship hull itself and the default equipment it came with would always be replace for free, but that special offer is now over. Newly bought ships now require regular ingame insurance.

There is even a system in place where you can melt-down a ship bought with LTI in order to transfer the LTI onto a different ship, thus enticing the purchase of spare ships only to use their LTI on a different ship later on.

I'm a roleplayer and have spent the last few years invested in Fallen Earth. I had been looking around for another game with a good RP foundation and had been watching The Repopulation with interest. It was while browsing their forums that I learned about SC. I looked at it, but I was still going to go for Repop because of the RP element.

Anyway, A friend of mine game around one day and said "Hey, have you seen this?" and showed me you tube footage of a ship approaching a space station. "Recognise it?" He said, grinning from ear to ear. As the Coriolis got closer my jaw stated to droop. "Is that... That looks like...". "Yup! it's Elite!"

As the ship approached the slot the years fell away and I could hear the 8 bit rendition of the Blue Danube playing in the background of my memory. I was 16 again, sitting on my bed surrounded by sheets and sheets of carefully labeled and indexed star systems... lost to the real world and light years away in my imagination. Then, the ship I was watching slipped through the beautiful electric blue portal into the station and my eyes moistened. This was what I had seen in my imagination all those years ago.

I haven't been back to The Repopulation website since. And SC? SC could never do to me what seeing that Coriolis station on that day did to me.

The whole "life in space" thing, 400 billions star system, the flight model, and the SOUND DESIGN!
I love that sound design with a passion.
I decided to buy the premium beta when I heard those engine noises.

After all the whingeing with some people about losing ships and having to start over, imagine if the same people had paid for said ships in ED and then lost them forever... :D

Sorry, can't resist for those that haven't seen this before then profound apologies:

I've backed both, but having seen the flight model, third person camera and "war-thunder-esque" mouse aim in SC made me decide I'll only play Squadron 42 (which I'm looking forward to) and wont touch multiplayer.

I've invested equal amounts into both games, but ED is the one I'd spend more on at this stage.

No, that is completely untrue and I wish people would do more research before saying mistruths about games. Insurance in Star Citizen is paid by money earned in-game via the same ways as Elite: Dangerous - Bounty hunting, trading, etc.

The only money being paid right now is the support of the game via pledge packages or extra ships to compliment that/the development of the game

Where I believe the OP is erring is you can purchase a limited amount of credits [UEE] for use in-game with real money (for people with lack of time or who are "whales")

Read what you quoted again as you are incorrectly answering the following:

The person you quoted asked if it was true you have to insure with real world money, not in-game money
