ED is missing out on play time from occasional gaming

Wanted to play ED for a bit, after being away for a couple of weeks, so I fired it up and spawned in the Amber system (the last CG). Made the four jumps to Bhagui with my AspX (60+ LY), arrived at the CG station and called the combat Krait. Time for transfer 36 minutes and 2M+ cost. OK. Closed ED, opened Far Cry 5 and played that, while the ship was being transferred. Forgot to go back to ED and continued playing Far Cry 5 instead. Will try again some other time but by then the CG will probably be over or there won't be enough time left to make a dent. So I am just down 2M Cr. Why can't this game be made so that it's possible to play it for half an hour at a time? They are losing player time that would add up, half an hour at a time, to the total amount of hours ED is being played per month. Designing the game this way wouldn't exclude the other players, who like/are ok with longer sessions.

You still have a couple of days to run the CG?

You could also run multipurpose ships rather than min-maxed ships. I did both Amber CG's (and placed better than the median in both) with the same Challenger, generally running short sessions and taking breaks. It took some planning ahead, but Elite rewards planning ahead and flexibility. That's part of what I like about the game.

You could've slapped a fuel scoop in your Krait, flown it over and been fighing in a third of the time.

I don't understand what purpose taxis serve anymore now that any ship is capable of +20ly jumpranges if you're just going to transfer it over.

Granted nearly every one of my ~18-20 ships that I regularly use or like has a fuel scoop and half of those have a GFSDB, so they're anywhere between the high 20s and low 40s in range, so I rarely ever transfer ships as a result.

You need to outfit your Krait with a Guardian FSD booster. My combat Krait jumps 34 LY with it. I only use my Asp X or Exploraconda for super long range stuff.

The "my immurshion" crowd did ruin the ship transfer feature... I'm okay with wait times (particularly if it's going someplace like the Pleiades or Colonia), but a transfer shouldn't take longer than it takes to just do it myself. At the very least there should be options (slow transfer, cheap price or fast and expensive)

Tomorrow...that's it.

Sorry but it doesn't solve the problem as good as reducing transfer time would, for example. And I have fully engineered combat ships, why would I want to downgrade myself, in a combat CG to boot?

But a combat ship with a fuel scoop is not a combat ship. So you mean, store 5D HRP to free up space for a 5A fuel scoop, equip fuel scoop, hit jump 15 times (15 minutes approx), land at CG station, transfer 5D HRP, wait for transfer (36 min), equip HRP and launch? It's still not really changing much. If for example the transfer time was half that, it would make more sense.

It doesn't make sense to artificially increase the time it takes to transfer a ship. It just causes players to get off the game and maybe come back later (maybe...in my case I didn't).

You can play for 30 minutes at a time you chose not to.

Waiting 36 minute for a ship transfer, or jumping 15 times to destination + module transfer time is not playing?? Playing is being in a HazRes fighting ships...but I would have had to wait for a self imposed, artificially inflated timer before finally being able to do what a game is supposed to do. I chose to just fire up another game instead, where I can get in on the fun right away and don't have to harakiri. I'm just trying to explain my reasoning, you don't have to agree.

Also fitting a fuel scoop to a combat ship doesn't stop it being a combat ship at all.

It does when you encounter another ship with similar config but the other ship has an additional 5D HRP instead of a fuel scoop, believe me.

Combat is my fav part of the game but isn't the only part of the game and its your choice to go to the current CG no one put a gun to your head. If you want instant gratification play something that provides that, certain don't have to harakiri....

No, skill will cover that difference just fine trust me.

Sure, but I prefer to take all the advantage I can. That's a skill in itself.

Also, you are sidestepping the problem by forcing me to play your way.

I do combat in ships with fuel scoops all the time. Most times I don't bother reconfiguring the ships, but if it was really an issue I'd just transfer the modules, play with a slightly less optimal ship for 30 mins, then refit the next time I visit the station. No big deal.

Most of my bubble ships have no fuel scoop. With a bit of FSD engineering, most will go 25 LY or so, and 150 LY trips are doable on a single tank without scooping.

Gives me an extra cargo rack on the Python and conda, and an extra HRP on a combat ship.

Fuel scoops are overrated. If the trip is slightly longer, i just make some eco jumps until the last jump to my destination is no longer a dashed line.

For some, anything less than instant is not good enough.

Fuel scoops is not required: dock and refuel.

Ship transfer is not required: travel with the ship you wanted.

Too many jumps for your taste: options.

Taking advantage of min maxing isn't skill, you don't take any decision takig risks.

Also no one is forcing you to play his way. It is just way to play ED seems to bring more enjoyment. Games kinda have that.

On the topic of endgame bubble taxis, you could do a lot worse than the zippy tadpole...

Wowsers!

Of course, it's dead if you run into real trouble.

One of the nice things about Colonia is that you can get around very well without a scoop. It is a small ship friendly place. One can use the economy jump planner to get just about anywhere. So, your ship can stay optimized for it's role.

I'm glad I moved.

Why wasn't your Asp X fitted for combat It still would have had a good jump range and you could have used that while your other ship was in transit.

Looks like you are hamstrining yourself on purpose to have a pop at the game.

I am a casual player and play one or twice a week if I am lucky. I find the game perfect as a casual occasional gamer.
