Powerplay FDev, for God's sake, make Powerplay OPEN ONLY already!

You've said you want to do it. The vast majority of comments say to do it. But as long as you don't, this last cycle is going to repeat itself.

For those who don't know, Winters was attempting an expansion to Diegakul, only for a 900,000 Merit nuke to be dropped. The system in open has been under federal CAP the whole week. Every attempted offense in was quickly repelled. How could they have done this?

Rather than engage in what the devs describe as "consensual PvP" they just SMASH THAT SOLO BUTTON and don't face ANY opposition!

GUYS. THIS IS EASY TO FIX.

Why are you so paralyzed by indecision? Worried about upsetting the "muh content" crowd? PUT THE PP MODULES IN THE TECH BROKER. THERE. THE ONLY THING PEOPLE MISS OUT ON IS THE MULTIPLAYER MODE.

Agree, the whole PP mechanics are a not fit for purpose mess, it needs to be open only and ground up redesign of pretty much everything. I'm not mad at individual commanders or those in charge of the various powers just how the whole thing works. This last cycle is just a perfect example of how broken it all is.

FDev should be aware of this by now. 5th Column activities, PG abuse and afk-turret-boating have been rampant for a long time, they just don't care. The only meaningful PvP part of the game is plainly abandoned and it's in fact just another PvE grind.

Meanwhile we're gonna get thunder lightning in the next patch, boys.

E X C I T I N G!!!

i am positive that most agree with this. for ppl that do pp for the sake of modules just have those modules sent to tech brokers or navy rank. in fact navy ranks could use more rewards.

it's funny to me that the power that has prismatics is the one going to solo/pg to haul. whereas the power that has pulse disruptors and pacifiers are in open.

lastly I think Lavignys Legion should set an example for the rest of the empire. We see them in open both pvpers and haulers/umers. they also have internal rules against the use of solo/pg when doing pp.

the only reason I'm still playing ED after the best part of 2 years is PP and the community that goes with it. I've got all the ships I want, more credits than I can spend, I've tried every aspect of the game ... there's nothing keeping me playing except for the context of PP and the people involved. The only feeling after this week's debacle is why the should I bother if FDev allow a monumental effort by a PP faction to be nullified by another faction using game exploits. That's not fair competition, that's just cheating. So FDev - if you want to keep me as a player and keep buying those paintjobs sort this king mess out. No more store purchases until you do. Rant over.

Few month ago in topic about open only power play i wasn't sure about this move, and i seen arguments of players opposing this as viable, but i had no idea how wrong i was, most arguments about leaving power play in all modes were actually false, ESPECIALLY the one that all modes should be equal, i m not going to go into philosophy here that justice is usually something completely different from equality, but allowing organised cheats in power play to AFFECT OUTCOMES of critical elements of power play definitely wasn't part of developers plan for it, and what we have this cycle: undermining merit bombs in Winters expansion along with merit bombs in all Grom expansion is clear proof of current bad state of the power play and how its played by huge part of players who are actually deeply INVOLVED in power play. Its a way that kills any accomplishment, any joy for players who play it in legitimate way. If i have to compere what happened today to combat casual combat logging is like compering hired assassin to some junkie trying to steal drugs from pharmacy. FD please fix it, unless you want to lose end-game players for good.

While Sandro's proposal is a good starting point and I support it (barring ethos changes), that proposal is not enough and open-only isn't a panacea. We need better instancing and we need changes to expansion mechanics, both to broaden available methods for support and opposition, and to build equal "bandwidth" for both sides in a given objective system.

While I whole heartedly support playing in open, everyone doing so would only create significant instancing which would have lead to the same outcome in the end, and then there is time zones to consider. Your complaints will not be solved by open only, open only will just prove that it was never solo/pg players at the root of the problem.

I've said it before - sure, make PP Open only. But remove every single trace and reference to it from Solo and PG. Personally I think those cartoon characters are inane.

As much as I don't really care for PvP I'm going to come out and add my 2¢ on this. Yes, PP should be open-only and for the above reason. If one group of players wants to outdo the others there needs to be a way to compete and on a level playing field. Otherwise it's like watching a football game with only one set of players on the field while the other set of players is invisible and keeps the ball to themselves because there's no way to stop one touchdown after another. We're on a different plain of reality and still have an effect on the scoreboard.

I sat in SC for a week running PvP cover for the feds in open in Diegakul. I saw the Fed haulers make the runs in Open. I saw 3 imperials during the whole week, not including the heroic 13th legion who got trashed in the first day and moved to gank Eravate. Anyone who says that merit bomb was done in open, is just plain lying, and it is so wrong that you can do that in PG where you can't be countered. Instancing is an issue in this game, for sure, but I had empty instances, except for the Fed haulers who came by. Can't always be in separate instances, especially when you keep resetting the instance.

Also an ex-imp, I know for a fact they do PP stuff in PG. So GG with that.

Leader of Nomads here.

We sat in Diegakul for the entire expansion durarion. LL showed up to fight, as did the 13th and neither were sucessful at taking control of the system. We never saw any Imperial haulers or UMers coming through the system. 0. They were all either in Solo or PG.
Powerplay as it stands currently is a joke.

Guys, Powerplay is often limited to 4 players max in Open, there are fundamental issues none of us can get around atm, they need bug-fixes before Open-only can be considered:

1. Only one instance can get UM spawns at a Nav/RES beacon. That means at most only 4 players can UM at a time (and interdicting is too inefficient). One player can AFK there and block them all cycle, some mean players do it intentionally, others by accident. That renders the other hundred players unable to play all week. All powers are forced to balance their forces, Winters are no exception.

2. All pads can be blocked in Open with alts. Just imagine if Rhea was full of alts all week, you'd be dead in the water, unable to fortify. And one player can block a MPad; innocent overnight freeloaders would be nightmares.

3. If just one person stays docked in an instance for a while, the other pads gradually fill with static Orcas and Belugas, whilst others bug out the wrong way round, are recessed, or the ILS invisible. This bug began around 18 months ago and is a major headache in Powerplay, whether in Open or PGs, many of us cannot land without several attempts if another players been docked a while. We keep having to fly out and trying a different pad number. Eventually they all bug out and no-one can land.

4. Wing kill stealing limits at most 4 players to each combat expansion zone.

Mostly the poster seems salty because of losing the weekly competition. Only one side can win, the other must lose, it's character building, embrace it. You guys put in quite a bit of effort, but not nearly as much as the opposition despite the trigger advantage. It was always going to end that way when you're up against a superior force like the Empire. We even toyed with the idea of letting you have Diegakul as it would've made emo-Winters negative. But after a toss-up decided it would be nicer going positive, especially after the 5C had us below -900 CC once upon a time. You can go negative next time maybe. Salt aside, we start a new week now and you can play better, with new opportunities. We had problems finding Winters haulers in Open too, their 700K+ most of it appearing out of thin air. I couldn't instance with my friends hauling in Open because of instancing being what it is, so who knows, maybe everyone is in many other Opens. It's business as usual. See us throwing toys out of prams when we're beaten, you do not.

You think players in Private Group or Solo are to blame, but make no comment on players on other platforms. PC vs XBox vs PS all compete in the same universe but not the same instances. Moving PP into open only will not stop things like this happening. It may reduce it but not completely.

eta: Nevermind that actual instancing is fairly borked to begin with. If you are across the world that chances of seeing someone from the EU if your in USA for example if slim. Hell, it can be hard enough even if your in the same area.

I used to only ever play in Solo - but since starting Powerplay a few weeks ago, I've been playing in Open, because it's only fair. Sure, I'm in a small ship so my rebuy is pretty low, and so far I've only been killed by a player once anyway, but it's the principle of the thing... if I am taking actions that will inevitably (and maybe even drastically) affect other players, I should at least have the decency to show my head above the parapet, and give them a chance to take me down. The truth is, I have hardly seen any other players at all... but that might be because THEY are all in Solo!

...Incidentally, I did consider going to Diegakul, just to earn some merits - but when I saw the commanding lead that the Winters players had built up, I changed my mind, since the handful of vouchers that I could have handed in would have made no difference. If the players who ultimately prevented the expansion had been playing in Open instead, they would have had to hand in their vouchers more regularly, for fear of dying and losing them all - and then I would have been able to see that progress was actually being made, and I might have felt more motivated to go there and take part myself! So it's not just the Winters players who have been adversely affected by this, I have been as well...

(Of course, it sounds like I would have just got blown up if I had gone to Diegakul, but that's beside the point! I don't fear an honourable death... but if someone used Solo mode to undo all of MY hard work, I know it would annoy me, to say the least.)
