User friendly Linux exist and is very user friendly. That's not an issue. Problem is that there are very few pre-installed Linux boxes due of how in reality OEM works. Microsoft holds OEMs in thigh grip even after all anti-trust lawsuits. There are lot of other reasons OEMs don't want to get into Linux...but I will leave them for now.
Yet there's some work to be done. Flatpak must take hold - while building RPMs and Debs should no be trouble for well prepared team - it is bunch of configs and scripts, well documented ones - flatpak allows for more modern package configuration and support. Graphics API are fine, but only recently we got up to date OpenGL support (4.5/4.6) across the board. Vulkan API support is good though and is one of the best in for platforms.
What I wish to see is better streamlined user interface for indentifying and configuring peripherals like wheels and HOTAS. At backend things get cleared up so I hope there will be some generalization at frontend too. I know there are good configuration guis for gamepads. Something just more general would be cool as well.
Said that, none of that should really be a problem to roll out game to Linux. Way Steam works, or even individual installs, is no big bother ans has been working for years. If it all down to financial numbers and risks, then yes, it is something company should look at and vet if they are ready to go that route. FD work on MacOS clearly shows they would have no issues with tech know how to do Linux version.
