News Beyond - Chapter Four - Beta Announcement

Discovery tools as a separate screen is dissapointing. Especially for VR.

On the contrary. No longer having to fly to each planet and wait for an arbitrary spinny wheel. AND it discovers the ground POIs. This is a huge timesaver and finally replaces all those placeholder mechanics.

Totally. But it's amusing watching people whose expectations are now so low they're getting excited over circles on a black screen. It looked like pong on a broken tv.

Wow, belittling the expectations of others because something new doesn't tickle your fancy.. you think rather highly of yourself don't you?

I'm not at all convinced with the new exploration gameplay. It looks cool, it'll probably be fun for a couple of tries, and then it'll be just an annoyance especially for big planets.

The orrery is also quite simple, but maybe that's just me, I like to be showered with informations, panels, graphs on screen and what we'll get is probably a little bit too.. devoid of life, in a way.

What I really liked was the codex. Finally, after more than three years, I can understand the lore behind the game, took you long enough to add contest into the stuff happening in your game fdevs ;)

Overall, so far, this part of the update sits between the ok and the good. Looking forward to the next livestream

I wonder if my engineered fast scan DSS will carry over in any way.

I think they said the microprobe mechanism is engineerable to improve the surface area covered by the probe.

I feel they listened and pulled into the right direction, the exploration changes feel more organic. I'll be giving it a try as soon as release drops.

RAXXLA!!!

I'm a bit confused as why they didn't showcase the USS mechanics. They'll seem to be persistent across jumps but I suppose they are limited to clients (I won't be able to see the USS of another player I suppose)
When they all expire, when are they respawned then? If you visit several systems will you have to keep in memory instances of all the USS'es that have spawned in the systems ? That feels quite stressful on the system (computer-wise I mean). Waiting to watch it in action..

RAXXLA!

What about the special effects showcased in the teaser? Wasn't that supposed to be part of visual upgrades? The space-weather storm thing?

No visual improvements to black holes? They feel bland as they are. They shouldn't give out heat I suppose (no radiation emanates from a BH except maybe Hawking radiation) but they should definitely put severe stress on the FSD and the event horizon/schwartzschild radius should be visible as a black ball amidst the gravitational lensing. Accretion disks should be visible in close binary systems as well. That may be far fetched but I'd so love to see that in such a science-minded game. Just my 2 credits.

Did I mention Raxxla?

No not really. I don't think it's particularly high and mighty to suggest a little black screen with circles on it isn't something i get excited over. I get that for some people seeing circles will get them going. I just would like to see a bit more.

Well this has to be the weirdest place I ever checkec on the forums grom ...

what did i miss?

Hope everyone enjoyed the stream, damn it's been hard keeping quiet.

Very happy with what I saw. The lightning was a little underwhelming and showing the icy asteroid field didn't translate well over stream, but maybe it looks a lot better in game. Otherwise, some stuff I didn't expect (pleasantly surprised) and very happy with the exploration stuff overall.

Then say that?
This > " whose expectations are now so low " is unnecessary.

I wasn't able to watch the live for more than 20 minutes (I watched the end in few words).

Now I'm watching it from the beginning: they said when you break the cockpit canopy the part where there's no glass will have a very different lighting when looking into the gap.
Nice the color grading adapting to the environment (mainly when near a star, black hole and so on).

Maybe it's a first step. Maybe they need to get a handle on performance implications and further iterate on it over time. Not the first time they've done something like that. It's better than not having it since it'll be in a better position for feedback and improvements.
