Newcomer / Intro How to find docking ports?

Some comments.

Docking issues, when you dock and enter the hanger the pad is revolved so you face back the way you came to enable an easier departure, when you leave the pad drops down and rotates so as to be available for the next ship except sometimes it doesn't so when you arrive over the pad facing the end where the control buildings are with the large blast deflectors behind you the ship won't lock onto the pad and the image on your display will be the wrong way round. In that rare case you need to turn in place over the pad until your display looks right then touch down.

Docking Computers are very useful when landing heavy freighters at ground bases on worlds with more than 2 gravities, once the gravity gets high your ship has a tendency to fall if it is not horizontal (& the right way up) the docking computer is extremely good at dealing with that.

Oh..i thought facing the control tower points to the right landing direction, strange that a ship must land on a departure docking area
Why is that?..was there no credits to build a revolving landing/departure docking facility

Gosh, how long have I been playing now... 3 weeks maybe 4. I've made the mistakes and had a royal laugh at myself for them. Heck once I accidentally activated my hardpoints while sitting on an outpost dock and in a sorta panic thinking I did something wrong I fired my lasers.. hahaha.. Nice time for a fine. Everyday I just try to learn something new even if it's something small. In this short time I've managed to acquire 3 ships and upgrade them all. I've seen 1,000,000 credits in my bank account and I've seen the bulk of that go away either on modules or ship purchases or rebuys. I'm back up a few more credits now, I think around 700k, and the next thing I'm gonna try and learn is the trading game. I have an Adder I'm gonna use for that to get my feet wet and if I like it I'll get a more capable ship. Gotta go find a chaff launcher first because my home system does not sell them. This game is the most fun I've had online in a very long time and each day it amazes me at the level of detail and complexity that I still have to learn. Biggest thing is... have fun.

You are doing well for a starter...wow
Have fun is where its all about.
Let's together drink a beer somewhere in our milky way

Think of the start of the game as a huge brick wall. A huge brick wall you keep hitting with your head to break through, it hurts it frustrates and can get you down but and it is a BIG BUT one day pretty soon that brick wall will come down and when it does BOY are you in for some fun.

Just fly around, do the tutorials, get fines, make mistakes lose your credits and blow up your ship. Do all these things at the start with the knowledge IT DOESNT MATTER the ships FREE you’ve only just started and once your confident in the basics wipe your game. You may lose all in game progress but the most important thing is YOU KEEP YOUR KNOWLEDGE everything you have learnt is still in your head, right there ready to be used as you start fresh. The most important advice I think for any new player is STICK TO IT because once you get the knack of it it’s a stunningly beautiful game to play.

(Ps as a disclaimer I feel obligated to say no matter how long you play the game you will still make mistakes, get fines and blow up your ship but that’s all, part of the fun)

Thanks!
Inspiring you are.
I had a lot of fun with the first elite games on PC - frontier first encounters and the predecessor from this game some long years ago
Now we have elite dangerous and flying is more advanced and more..
I will try to master elite ..
I do have one advantage that i have been confronted more with complicated games and it takes always alot of time to get a hang to it.
So i take my time :)

No need to thank me if I can help I’m more than happy too.

This forum can be a scary place, if you read a lot of the threads you would think it was just a vitriolic war of words over almost anything that involves the game, but cut to the core and it’s full of commanders who will happily take a time out from their bickering to give you help and advice when ever u need it.

Super!
I made a "clear save" , curious to see if the earlier made custom keybindings were preserved ..and yes, they were not removed.
Now i am really at the begin again to start exploring.

Classifying what the subject is on the forumwritings is important for me
And its all clear for me the writings from other commanders :)
I just flew away from the start station and went back and docked again with some needed adjustments ( it pays off the study effort: a quick docking fo the first time)..now to rank up to get a permit for SOL as startsystem

It should do but occaisionally the dock people don't reset the pad properly so that it is pointing the wrong way. The pad/lift surface does revolve as it takes you into the hanger or if you ask to launch without entering the hanger.

For 15 euro about, i do see a cheap steam key for Horizons, but it probably better to play a while with the basis elite ?

Not really - I'd get the Horizons expansion (during the next sale, black friday most likely) if you can afford it. Not necessarily for the planetary landings (although there are planetary missions that pay quite handsomely, once you've figured out the current operation of the crime system), but for all the other small things that come with it, like Engineers, a few more ship types and a bunch of the "chapter 3" upgrades.

Yeah. Let's not forget that Horizons aren't just planets, anymore, but 3 years worth of content.

Let me wait for Black Friday then for buying Horizons
3 years of development to Horizons ?

Technically, yes. All the stuff up until this point is free for the owners of Horizons. So you don't only get the Horizons content (developed between 2015 and first half of 2017), but also everything under development since then up until now.

Horizons... yeah, I made the mistake of buying the Horizons expansion before buying the base game and of course it wouldn't work. So by asking a lot of questions I figured out my boo boo and I had to go back to buy the base game and install that first. The first of many mistakes I've made and will make in the future... hahaha I never played the base game so I don't know how it compares to the Horizon expansion but I do know that what I'm playing is amazing.

I am not in hurry with buying the Horizon Expansion, i think for the next sale
Enough to learn.. now i would like to see a oversight of used icons on the Galaxy map ?
i started somewhere in a system far from Sol and plotted a route to Alpha Centaury.. a star near Earth..underway i can do missions.

Travelling in the basic sidewinder is a bit painful as your jump range is very short. You may want to stay fairly local (not the starter system) until you can increase your jump range. It should not take too long to start making significant money once you get the hang of the basics, which you can practice in training. When I first started I did something similar, I got to a point where I could not buy any fuel due to lack of cash with my first try so had to clear save. That was 3 years ago...

If you do want to jump about and visit a few stars then YOU MUST FIT A FUEL SCOOP to your ship or at the very least carefully plot your route to ensure you can dock to refuel.

I’d suggest a fuel scoop so you can practice doing that when dying/loosing your ship doesn’t matter. All you do is equip it to your ship in outfitting then when you next jump to a system if it’s a ‘scoopable’ Star you just fly close to the stars event horizon and the ship will automatically begin scooping fuel.

i usually angle my ship toward the bottom of the star BEFORE I engage the engines (try 50% thrust to begin with). The closer you are and the faster you go the quicker you scoop but I would advise you to keep at a distance and mid speed till your comfortable with the technique.

Fuel you ‘scoop’ is FREE the best fuel in the galaxy.

(one final tip is NEVER FLY WITHOUT CARGO TO SELL. It will help you find trading routes etc before you get into using more advanced methods)

First thing I did with MSS Sunrise was buy a fuel scoop and store the cargo rack. I knew I wasn't gonna haul any cargo right away so why tote the extra weight. I've been all over the place with my sidey and I just upgraded very slowly along the way as I got credits accumulated. Fuel scoop at every scoopable star along the way. It takes a little longer to get from one place to the other but you get some maneuvering practice as a bonus. Don't get too close to the star or your sidey will be smokey. I love flying that little ship. There she is, my lovely little MSS Sunrise.

Rep for the paint job. Looks like something from a comic or street art.

Now i do want some trading, but the commodities screen is not yet understand by me

I am in a system .. trading in system itself make no sense i assume ( caannot oversee this now)
Import and export is between systems, so i what has my system to offer for making credits on a "export" flight to another system and then back ?
