Rumoured (no, really!) and Reported

I'm not one for staring rumours or anything, but....

An NPC told me that he'd seen something in Region 14, and his sister's boyfriend had also seen the same thing.....whatever it was. I returned to the nearest station and the faction giver gave me a tip-off, which told me that her Viper MKIII was borrowed by her neighbour. Now, her neighbour's son's friend works for Core Dynamics and word on the street is that one of the cleaners who was working at Core Dynamics HQ the other night saw this text floating around on a screen via one of the PC's screen-savers:

Raxxla: 14

Like I said, this is just a rumour. Once I find Raxxla I'm sure it will be reported.

:p

This opening post is 100% infinite probe free.

This is nonsense.

I know this because, in game, Saool's friend's sister's boyfriend's mother's dog walker's accountant's brother's niece's father's friend's engineer's aunt's daughter's workmate's gym friend's father's drinking buddy's mother's boy friend's sister's mate, who works for Sirius Corp, said they did not know where Raxxla was, as it was only 3 planck lengths wide.

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
Word.

Seriously, though, I rather like the concept of 'rumors' leading the player (at least initially) towards interesting 'stuff' in the game.

Ralaxxa smackaxxa, we will find it when FD thinks we are ready to find it, no sooner :D

But the real mystery to be found will be the RSI system. It will be difficult, only one star and one planet and it keeps on fading in and out of the plane of reality. But it should be easy to confirm identity once found as the entire system is covered in salt :D

I remember my 1st tip off to locate an item of much interest , not having many goonie adventures in elite i set off into the depths of the unknown to locate this mysterious person/place/object ... got there but lo and behold a crashed anaconda with a few tons of tea spilled around ... 10/10 great troll.

I don't make enough credits to buy a ship in that system.

I think that part of the new exploration changes is because Frontier hid some things and we're not finding them fast enough. Once we can play four shots of space golf and know everything on a planet, things will go about faster! :D

In other words Frontier finally had to make it simple enough for us!

Edit: By the way - if you think this post is unrelated to Elite; Dangerlous ... for me, it's not! ;)
This band is integral part of my "Relaxed Exploring Play List" and flying in space is now emotionally bound to their tunes.

I even had to warn my partner that, when we went to their concert some days ago, I might spread my arms, run around and make boost sounds to the weird amusement of the other visitors.
Well, I could hold myself back, fortunately. :D

At the risk of taking this far more seriously than intended, the trouble with a game like ED is that once one person figures something out, the entire mechanic is rendered redundant for everybody else 'cos it'll be all over the forums, youtube and reddit.

I have a sneaky feeling this is why FDev doesn't put a huge amount of effort into creating narrative-driven content; they know that once it's been figured-out once, their effort is going to be wasted on everybody else who'll just complete the same thing "by the numbers".

Rumours at station bulletin boards can be intriguing but maybe it'd be better if they were generated randomly for individual players so that everybody had their own stuff to do rather than just doing what a guy on youtube told them?

There should be personal quest and community quests.
Raxxla definitely a community quest but there should be minor ones, like discovery of lost civilizations (that has no impact on the game like the Guardians) or some type of anomalies that shouldn't be spoilered because are randomly and procedurally generated for the player

Whatever happened to those cryptic codes that flashed up for a microsecond, during a livestream, sending the community into a frenzy......ah! those were the days!!!!

Knowing only Elite Dangerous I'm mercifully unaware of what Raxxla is. I stand aside and observe with a dose of fascination how other people get excited. I don't get it but it's quite a show.

I don't get the Raxxla thing either, but each to their own.

I'd like to see another Jaques like scenerio spring up........Space Station out in the black, malfunctioning needing mined resources to get it functional again, go & find it!!

Only this time FD, don't then turn the region into a smegging popularity competition!!!
