Squadrons and Proper colonization mechanics

If you want base/empire building mechanics, then IMO that is the right way to approach things if you desire that gameplay.

As for informing future ED features - go play EvE if you want true player owned persistent assets in an MMO environment - some of us got into ED precisely because it did not.

Doesn't mean ED can't have some base building on a smaller scale. Such as build an outpost or station and protect a system. A squadron could do such things in the name of a faction. For example Aisling says go to uninhabited system X, gather enough resources to build an outpost, claim the system for that faction. Set up defense operations and commerce lanes.

Since I moved operations to the Pleiades several weeks ago, I have wondered if there was a way to build up other clusters of systems with adequate facilities/stations and an economy to make it worthwhile to move to outside the bubble. I've never been to Colonia so I don't know how money is made there but around Maia and Merope there are several stations to trade and do business with.

I've been to the Running Man Nebula a couple of times and it seems to be ripe for colonization. When looking at it via the GalMap, the systems are so dense that it looks like a big pond with hundreds of Lily pads floating around. Its amazing, not to mention all the colors from the various nebula around it.

random thoughts these are and some wishful thinking

(and these thoughts have nothing to do with player owned anything)

That is not what some are talking about though - we already have what your are talking about in terms of community goals.

On no scale should a player have any sense of control over persistent assets over and above what is already provisioned through the BGS.
