Will there be more than 2 New Ships?

The fact that we've only seen two new ships doesn't necessarily mean there are only two new ships. Firstly, they're only being used by NPCs, so whether they're used at all is a setting on the server so it's possible that someone forgot to turn them off, or FDEv "oops did I do that" to generate some hype. Secondly, we know that next week there's going to be a new beta client with entirely new code in it - the new mining stuff. So it's entirely possible that in week 3 of the beta we'll get another build with more than the two we've seen so far. Or I'm being hopelessly optimistic and it's always been just two. We'll know in a few days.

At the risk of kicking a wasp's nest... the Cobra MK IV may be released for everyone to use!

A ship discussion just isn't complete without this being dug up.

I would more like to see content that would be doable with small ships only; that way we would get many "new" ships. (Ie. Reason to use those)

I completey agree. However despite numerous suggestions FDev have yet to implement anything along these lines. Shame.

To the OP, I'd like two more ships in addition to the two already known about. Wholly new designs and not variants please, unless one is a T7-compact, that offers a Python beating hold and can land on medium pads.

So two new ships and three modified, the SK ships not having restricted optional slots for passenger cabins anymore. I wouldn't mind seeing an extra optional slot to hold a fighter bay added to the T6 but it might involve stretching the frame a little. It could protect itself better set up for mining since it only has two small hard points. Oh, and maybe they can add engineering to mining lasers so those small ones can be more effective.

If its a one hour stream, I'd say, 5 ships? 10 minutes to show off each ship, plus other 10 to chat about other stuff.

Of course only Frontier know how long the stream will be.

That many new ships, I'd be floored. But I doubt it :)

I think for the 1.5 Ships update, they announced 5 new ships that night.

We know they're announcing at least 2 - Krait Phantom and the other hardware which has been talked about a lot in the beta forum. I'd hope for a stream called New Ships, there would be more than 2.

Yeah, but that update was only ships. We know that adding new ships to ED is a lot of work since they release new ones so seldom, so I'm hoping to see maybe three. I would not be surprised if it's just the two we've seen already.

So, I've been thinking about the Krait Phantom.
What if the removal of the large hardpoint, the fighter bay and the extra cockpit canopies was to make room for a Class 6 FSD?

I mean Krait comes with a class 7 power plant, which shouldn't have any problems powering a Class 6 FSD. Wouldn't be too far-fetched to think that someone cannibalized a large hardpoint, a fighter bay, 2 canopies and downsized a bunch of optional internals to somehow squeeze in an oversized FSD to create a dedicated explorer. I mean the Krait Phantom is basically a retrofit of the regular Krait.

I too, believe that we are getting 5 new ships - the two already known, plus:

Large Alliance entry using the medium's aesthetic
New Ship intended for Mining/Trade on a larger scale - call it the Panther, if you like
Guardian *surprise*

We'll see next week.

I'd guess three new ships for the one hour stream.

5min on Krait Phantom
5min on Mamba
50Min flying a sidewinder flying at max speed from the engines to the canopy of a Panther Clipper, because it's just that big.

I wouldn't know about that. So far this year:

T10
Chieftain
Challenger
Crusader
Krait MkII
Krait Phantom
[That other new ship leaked in Beta]

7 ships released and/or leaked so far.

If there's not an exploration ship in there - the first one released for 3 years, then......I will not be happy. All year its been combat combat combat, with at least one new combat ship on the way in Chapter 4, an exploration update.

I agree there's an large Alliance ship on the way, just to give that superpower 4 ships to match up with the Feds and Imps......until the Imperial Explorer is released, I hope.

But if there's more than just the two, why haven't they been spotted in the beta? Someone should have spotted them by now, no?

Why go the trouble of including two of the ships in the beta, but not the rest?

buhahaha....you are optimistic person

Maybe. :)

Otherwise.....its going to be a short stream, "Hi, here's yer new Krait and that other ship! They can do this and be equipped with this! They jump this far and look nice! Thanks for watching, Cya!" :p

I'd seriously doubt there will be more than two more new ships introduced for Beyond C4. (although I've been known to be wrong on occasion)

That said, I'd welcome anything outside of the "copy/pasta variations" like we've had in the last year or so. We don't need six different Chieftan versions, 10 Federation Dropship versions, etc.

I'd very much welcome anything that isn't designed mainly for combat purposes too... although the track record so far has been combat+"sprinkle of utility"="multirole".
