IIRC from the mission stream, the new pool of missions is generated depending on a system state etc. when first player enters an instance. Then, if there are players around continually (meaning the instance doesn't get the chance to reset), every hour.
From that pool, new missions for you are chosen at random every fifteen or twenty minutes, or immediately if you change modes (Solo to Open, for example)
All this is going to change with the new update, though.
Is there a release date for this upcoming update?- I am so looking forward to the new UI features and the exploration interface.
I don't think there is a set release, but the beta is announced to run for another three weeks (we are exactly a week into it), so I guess it will simply be a couple days to a week after the beta ends.
I hope its a bit longer than that. The pile of bugs they have just from week 1 is plenty to keep them occupied for a looooong time, and we havent even blown up a roid or tried to have 500 Squad members all say "Hi" at the same time yet.
I really wonder why they want to do just one big update instead of a couple of smaller ones and roll out features one after the other as far as those are somewhat independent from each other. Like the UI changes could to the most part be separated - well, not the squadron stuff, but this could be integrated later on.
I don't think we can really know how much are the individual features and changes interconnected. It's lines of code and that usually means you have to have a certain sequence of changes or do them in batches.
They did release three smaller updates during this year and this is really kind of a wrap-up, so I think it makes sense that they are doing it at once.
It does mean a lot of bugs and oversights, of course, but that is nothing new. Tey're going to fight it out. But Dom might be right that it will take more than a month. Who knows, maybe they're shooting for Christmas.
That is good to me as well, more time to save up for a decent exploration ship. And I need some practice with planetary stuff as well, haven't done that yet, need a ship with one optional compartment more to do that effectively. Estimated costs are around 1.5 million, so it will take maybe a week to get there - if I do not buy another ship meanwhile just to test it out. So it doesn't really matter if it takes a couple of weeks more for the expansion - still lots to learn and do for me meanwhile.
Problem with beta testing is, that not all bugs will appear in a test environment - some will just happen on the live server, no matter how well the beta testing went.

Doing the same thing here with saving for a good exploration ship. I'd loan you my Adder if I could to go buggy hopping on a planet. You can always just land on a planet that is landable or land at a planetary outpost just for practice. I've delivered to a few planetary outposts and I need to get more proficient at it. My next goal is to haul goods from my home station to one of the planetary bases in the system so I can tweak my landing approach. I'll have to swap out some modules in one of my ships to do that.
How frequently are new missions added to the mission board?
Hi there,
Broadly speaking, new missions are added at 15 minute intervals.
Missions for a station are split between a rolling collection of 4 banks of missions.
Every 15 minutes a bank expires and a new bank is generated to take its place.
Thanks,
Dom
