Will there be more than 2 New Ships?

I personally think combat ships sell more cosmetics because they are more likely to be used in open and in streams. That's why FDev releases them like there is no tomorrow... :(

I'm not sure I agree with that premise. If you've seen the exploration expedition rosters and videos and pics then you know that non combat players buy lots of cosmetics too. We like our ships looking good for our screenshots!

It's just mostly Anacondas and Asp X's because, well, we need more ship choices.

It's not just exploration.

When was the last time a dedicated trading ship was released? Surely people who enjoy playing as traders would like some variety as well. Then there's also mining, pirating, exploration, etc.

absolutely agree, the Q4 the mining and Exploration date has been set for quite some time... almost so you would expect any new ships coming with it to be explo or mining.

two ships two roles... just sayin.

the last exploration ship was 1.4? (please correct me) the DBx - which is pretty much a lemon now

and mining vessel... well we dont have one of those we're using trade / multipurpose ships

Ah, but you see, not only are they introducing 2 new ships, they are de-restricting the 3 Saud Kruger ships. I wouldn't surprised to find that they are going to alter those some more to make them the default long range explo ships, maybe by FSD increases (that Type 8 FSD in the Beluga anyone?) and weight changes.

FDev can buff the Saud Kruger ships all they like that still does not change the fact that they are old ships that some people will tells us "there's your new exploration ships" while combat pilots seem to get actual new ships to pew pew in with every patch.

I was out exploring in the Orca before the beta, not the ideal build but very nice. Even better since the beta :D

Fact is, allowing passenger ships to jump further does not change the fact that there has been no exploration ships since day one and all we have is some Variants with Explorer tagged to the end of the ship name.

So telling us we can use a passenger ship to explore is case in point - We are still waiting for a dedicated explorer.

Please define "exploration ship".

IMHO any ship with sufficient internals and decent jump range is an exploration ship when equipped with the right modules, qualifying most multi-purpose ships and trading ships as such.

That's the same as saying every ship is a combat ship because they all have hardpoints.

What explorers really need are alternatives to the Anaconda and Asp Explorer, the two best exploration ships which have been in the game since 1.0 four years ago. We just want choices. We want our expeditions to look like more than just an Anaconda + Asp X rally. We'd like the DBX to be a better exploration ship.

It's not about getting a super exploration vessel, it's just about having choices to fly something other than what we've had for four years now.

Though I like the revival of classic ships, I would have loved to not see another new combat ship in a long time...
A dedicated explorer (I hope so much for the Krait Phantom to be that ship) and a trader/miner would have been such a good fit for Q4.

- Increase it's speed
- Remove the X2 medium hardpoint and add +4 small hardpoints (total of X6 small hardpoints)

Now we have a medium sized "fighter" with the maneuverability to handle small crafts but lacking the larger weapons to engage large ships.
Not sure that fits its name "Scout" though.

A scout should be silent and quick, and perhaps be able to travel great distances, for the purpose to infiltrate, spy, recon, find locations for basecamps, etc. Not really to engage in combat. If ever in combat, it should be more like a covert dagger hit, so sure a few but somewhat powerful weapons, but other than that, good jump range, fast engines, running really cool, while it's shields and hulls probably not the greatest. That's how I think of a scout.

What's hindering you? Are you telling me, anything with less than 60LY jumprange is not viable for exploration? My 55LY Krait is not viable for exploration? Damn... if you didn't tell me, I wouldn't have noticed. All the players exploring in their Clippers, Cutters, T-6s, T-7s, T-9s, T-10s and Orcas are all too dumb to notice that their ships are useless for exploraiton.

This is what confuses me, does that mean two extra ships on top of the ones we know about?

Hello everyone! Let me help set expectations here because this thread is getting large!

On Thursday we are formally announcing, showcasing and demonstrating both of the TWO ships that are coming in to Elite Dangerous Beyond 3.3 - Chapter 4.

There are not four ships... there are two.

I'll be pretty disappointed if there's no freshly designed mining ship, (i'm not holding my breath). My dream is for ED to have more brutally industrial themed ships, akin to type-7, but cranked up to eleven. There's enough spoilers and wings in space, give me something that just screams workhorse.

Edit: Damn, Ed shot me down hard there :D

So - given that we know about them both....
Only one is "new" - the other one looks to be another rework of an existing ship, is there any actual point tuning into the stream ?

He said BOTH, TWO, and TWO again. That's 2x2x2. Eight chips confirmed.
