What's hindering you? Are you telling me, anything with less than 60LY jumprange is not viable for exploration? My 55LY Krait is not viable for exploration? Damn... if you didn't tell me, I wouldn't have noticed. All the players exploring in their Clippers, Cutters, T-6s, T-7s, T-9s, T-10s and Orcas are all too dumb to notice that their ships are useless for exploraiton.
You have to remember, this update also has squadrons in it. Squadrons are "fairly" combaty.
So... Mamba makes sense really.

Hello everyone! Let me help set expectations here because this thread is getting large!
On Thursday we are formally announcing, showcasing and demonstrating both of the TWO ships that are coming in to Elite Dangerous Beyond 3.3 - Chapter 4.
There are not four ships... there are two.
HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Distant Stars required, what, ~53 light year jump range? Star One and a couple of other locations require ~48ish?
As far as I am aware, that is the only location to date that could only be reached by a select few ships. Now, of course, more ships can make the trip than could back then, but I am as of yet unaware of any new location that requires a non-boosted jump range greater than that to reach.

The point here, is that you are absolutely correct, Bortas, but some people cannot get past jump range. They just can't. The Krait is nearly perfect for Exploration, but that jump range will keep people like Commander Mengy from considering it to be a Exploration ship. In other words, if it doesn't compete with the Anaconda, then it doesn't count.
All 3 Passenger Ships just got a nice boost in this regard, but they don't count either. Partly because of their jump range, but also because they aren't *new* ships.
I would actually argue that upper-level Exploration has gotten a minimum of 4 new ships in Beyond, perhaps a fifth in the Phantom.
The Beluga and Orca might make for a pair of really sexy Miners, too. Just going to toss that in here as well.

Are you serious? There are literally millions of them along the galactic fringes requiring extreme jump ranges. Millions.
I often am stumped by my Asp's 71 ly range and wish I could get it up to Anaconda range. Just because jump range isn't important to you does not mean it's that way for everyone. The DWE rosters proves that with data, to many explorers jump range most certainly matters. A lot.
Your numerous statements that you haven't played nearly as much in the last year does not reconcile with this - which is it, Mengy?
It also seems that you are considering random locations, and actual desired destinations, to be the same thing. I am not sure that I would agree with you on that, to be honest. While they might indeed be the same to those who just want to reach System X for no other reason than because it's there, I would say that that is not the same as people wanting to visit Star One - because it's Star One. Not *just because.*

Would you take a Hauler into a combat zone?
Sure, it can fight. But its not the best ship for the job.
I have a Krait myself, 57Ly jump range. Great ship. But, with so many Condys and Asps in play for Distant Worlds II, its clear that needs to be another true explorer ship - with at least great jump range - simply to give explorers more choice.
Its that simple, really. Adding such a ship won't ruin anyone's gameplay.
Hi Edward. One of the reasons this thread is so big because we're curious at the absence of an exploration ship for an exploration update - an update which is delivering yet another combat ship.![]()
Yep, I've played a LOT less Elite this year than any other year since 1.0. How does that apply to this conversation? :S
Star One is just a popular example because people know what it is and can relate to it. If I said you need a top tier jump range to get to PRO AIS YA-D D13-0 would anyone have any idea what I'm talking about without going into the galaxy map?
Explorers don't just fly to the popular places, that's tourism. Many of us look for the unknown gems in the galaxy, the places no one has been to yet. Very often that requires jump range.
What a krait can jump 57 ly? I take it that is heavily engineered? I only just bought one for combat and have been having fun with it.
No it doesn't make sense at all to me, we already got three Chieftain variants and new SLFs, enough to cover the Squadrons bit of 3.3 imho.
The bigest part of 3.3 is focused on mining and exploration though and yet they cough up another combat ship.
Two new ships is fine, a miner and an explorer, another combat ship is not fine imho.
Oevasy SG-Y d0(some people consider it the ultimate milestone for an explorer) needs a minimum jump range of 82.68LY to reach.
