Will there be more than 2 New Ships?

There are no 7 combat ships. Most of them can be used for exploration.
They can, but several of them were presented as combat ships or "can be fitted with SLF" or such. I think the problem lies more in how they're presented than what they actually are. Every ship can be used for pretty much any task, some better than others of course, but if FDev presented the new ships in a wider way, like "This ship has sturdy hull and great shields which makes it perfect for tanking in combat or trading where you want to be able to survive a pirate interdicting you..." etc. Basically, they need to be a little bit more clever how the ships are advertised, and not just given as "great for combat".

Hello everyone! Let me help set expectations here because this thread is getting large!

On Thursday we are formally announcing, showcasing and demonstrating both of the TWO ships that are coming in to Elite Dangerous Beyond 3.3 - Chapter 4.

There are not four ships... there are two.

I'm sorry Ed - I can't do that...

...but are those two NOT the two everyone is talking about? They could have been included as NPC specific...

(Sorry, I couldn't resist it :D )

i must admit (and maybe technical reasons why they could not do this) but i think FD dropped a clanger by not removing the mamba in beta so far.

i dunno about you but i am hugely interested in having another of the old world ships bought into the game........ colour me interested :)

That's disappointing, I was hoping they would add Pi new ships.

Surely you would not give a mining and exploration update new combat ships. There has to more to it :p

What's hindering you? Are you telling me, anything with less than 60LY jumprange is not viable for exploration? My 55LY Krait is not viable for exploration? Damn... if you didn't tell me, I wouldn't have noticed. All the players exploring in their Clippers, Cutters, T-6s, T-7s, T-9s, T-10s and Orcas are all too dumb to notice that their ships are useless for exploraiton.

And yet, 90% of ships used for exploration are condas and ASPs. Surely, this not tied to the 'lots of internals + great jump range' combo.

That's coming from someone who did explore in iCourrier and iClipper. You can, but moving long distances is slower. Aka need a good reason to do it.

Other ships are not useless, just suboptimal for the traveling fast part.

Besides, the new orca will be great.

But... but... then you won't have time to show the other two!?

Most of those exploration figures comes from the various distant worlds exploration expeditions, not the more typical week-long foray off to a nearby nebula or an economic pathing sweep 500ly from the bubble's edge. Obviously, any explorer heading off to distant places will prefer a longer jump range, but the actual credit making effectiveness of an explorer is barely linked to their jump range and is simply a factor of their supercruise maneuverability and the capability to fit both a fuel scoop and both requisite scanners.

You know what would be awesome? THAAAA-RGHHHH-OOIIIID hybrid ships...and GUAAAAAA_RDDIIIII-AAAAHNNNN hybrid ships. Like in X-Com games you do develop planes based on alien technology and kick serious buttt? That would be awesome and worthy to unlock. Pass this on to Adam on a post-it and stick it next to his monitor while youre going to grab a coffee will ya?

Also tell him that the next focus (apart from the space legs and atmo landing youre Captain Obviously working on which I dont even need to fish for) for game development should be to reward people with impossible-to-achieve-but-super-cool stuff and add real deal long term scenarios. That would boost up sales enough to get you working on finishing the game in a few years.

Give the people a reason to work their ases over the game! Everyone who buys the latest ship is automatically locked out of reason to play any further.

Its MILKY WAY for godssakes. Waiting for you to fill it up with whatever you want.

Seriously though engaging gameplay and rewarding should be the next aim. Obviously you guys have squeezed in the third season just to have enough time to work on atmo and legs (stop denying please oh please) but a WARFRAME or EVE ONLINE kind of approach wouldnt be so bad (meaning constant grinding for achievement). Reel people in.

Thank you for reading my drunk texting now if you`ll excuse me I`ll have another one and .

Okay, so actually we'll have 1.5 new ships with a 50% chance of 0.5 ship not being combat oriented.
This in a mainly exploration and mining update..............

You have to remember, this update also has squadrons in it. Squadrons are "fairly" combaty.

So... Mamba makes sense really.

Here's hoping the phantom is mining/exploration

Ahahaha. As if.

It's a combat oriented krait guys. Obviously.
