Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

I am certainly not wanted - and if I get scanned, the authorities confirm that I am clean by chat message. So I am certain about this.

That is why I said to raise a "lost my stuff" support ticket - they will look at the occurrence and give you feedback on what is going on, a bug report gives no feedback.

I flew something like 13Klys last night!

Saw the Sagan Class Tourist Ship TEL-121 at IC 1805 Sector AV-O c6-6, to give an idea of my turnaround point.
Now my alt is parked at Procyon, as a proud holder of a fresh Sirius permit.
Off to do some missions and look for modular terminals now.

;)

Ah, so you're one of the smart ones.
When I was doing it, I naturally got the modular terminals first and THEN started working on the permit. Have to say MTs are probably very tasty or something because I've never seen so many interdictions, before. :D

Fortunately, nowadays the MTs can be obtained through various mission rewards relatively quickly. Back in my day, we had to fight bears over them!

I learned my lesson the hard way too, lol.

I thought all of that was pretty funny on FDev's part,

"Ok right, so you need 25 of these things."

"But, but..."

"That's right, they come in fours!
Hahahahahaha!!!"

I just finished equipping one of these...

When I get to the new Krait, I'll see about that too.

I don't have the mats for that and, for some reason, I have clean drives blueprinted:S

It's really early days but there looks to be a heat issue with this thing - a few shots of the lasers and I'm overheating. Just going to drive it around a little for size - not much distance on a G4 FSD to so hops are limited :D

Looks like it's gonna be fun to tinker with and find out what it's limits are. Are there paint jobs for it yet?

I just got the invitation from the engineer Farseer - just about 450ly away from where I am - i was heading on the spirale arm inwards, but she is located more outwards. On the way to her, I have to think about how to get meta-alloy, any hints?

Go to Darnielle's Progress in the Maia system :) https://eddb.io/station/market/47951

Not yet - and I will want one if I do buy a Mamba in live - not too keen on racing red :D

Wot tyres said - remember to go to Darnielle's Progress in Maia as there is another Darnielle's Progress (in LHS 246) - a good joke by F D you think?

You can only buy MA in Darnielle's Progress in Maia and only 1 t at a time now. You can however obtain MA by shooting the "fruit" from certain "ripe" barnacles. Google if that is your desire.

Ok, thank you, that is a start - I'm really excited to begin with this episode in my ED career. And I start to think that 450ly is not even a long distance at all - around 20-25 jumps I guess. Going a bit outside the normal area has told me, that when I will go on expedition, I will have to fit large fuel tanks, there is often for quite some time no decent service station and star systems on the route might not be good for fuel scooping either. Well, I will have to change ship for the journey - my current one does just 24ly jumps - my DBX does 10 more.

Unless you are right on the edges of the galaxy, or you are in the Brown Dwarf layer, there will be no shortage of scoopable stars for you out there :) It is possible to filter the galmap to show only sccopable stars as well, which will guarantee you aren't going to jump on fumes into a system that isn't scoopable. Just in case you didn't already know, the scoopable star-types are OBAFGKM only. The only thing is that there can be some interesting sites and objects in non-scoopable systems, so I find it best to just watch where I am going rather than filter everything out, but the option is a useful one.

If you do ever find yourself out of fuel or severely damaged out in the black, you can always call on the Fuel Rats rescue service as well - they go to incredible lengths and places to rescue commanders that have gotten themselves stuck. https://fuelrats.com/ To illustrate just how far, the epic story in this thread will tell you https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/308075-End-of-the-Road?highlight=end+of+road :)

Even if you are in the Brown Dwarf layer (which I've never been into, by the way!), it isn't very "deep", so a couple of jumps in the Z axis will get you out of it.

Safe travels, commander!

I tried to set a course brute force, at a smaller gap between spiral arms i figured there is eventually a route, set destination and already a few jumps out the icon appeared "last chance to fuel scoop on the route" - which basically means, on that route there is no star available and when I checked how much fuel I possibly would need, I recognized that there is a path, but none, which I could use. This told me that I have to be very careful, when planning a route and not just brute force try to get there.

Edit: I will figure it out over time - there is only just one "first time" and the galaxy is new and fresh to me, I have not much of a clue, how populated it is or how lifeless it might be, no idea what dangers await me or if there are any hostiles at all for longer stretches. This will all be very exciting to discover and figure out.

This said, for now I will get meta-alloy from Maia and have a chat with Fareer to get a better FSD - this will keep me busy for some time I guess.

The "last chance" is just the system where your fuel-tank will run out of fuel if you don't scoop before then. So you can just jump to that system without scooping, then fuel up at that star, and then carry on - the "last chance" icon will then move to the next system that is scoopable before your fuel runs out.

I like having fuel on board, so I scoop at every opportunity, usually :)

If you get drawn to exploring the very edges of the galaxy, then sometimes running with less than a full tank can be useful to maximise your jump range, along with fuel-injection synthesis - all fun things to discover at the right time :)

The engineer Prof. Palin needs you to travel quite a way.

But that's just peanuts to space... Some of the commanders here almost live exclusively in the black and 450lys is just a trip to the off license.

Ah, to me that meant something like one can see it in desert areas - where such a sign means, you won't find a service station or something to refuel anytime soon and you better fill up here or you won't make it.

Edit: I want to get to the other side of the galaxy - do 100,000lys across the galaxy and see what I can find.

You might find the EDDiscovery toolhttps://github.com/EDDiscovery/EDDiscovery/wiki to be very helpful when you head off, and the websites for EDSM https://www.edsm.net/ and EGO http://www.elitegalaxyonline.com/. I can't remember if I have said anything about them before or not, apologies if I am telling you something that I have already!

Your journey will be wonderful, I can assure you :)

Congratulations!
While getting the meta-alloy in Maia, you will probably get the invitation from Elvira Martuuk.
The Soontil Relics she wants are near to Felicity Farseer, in Ngurii, so you can easily grab those after you upgrade your FSD.

The Dweller and Lei Chung provide a huge QoL increase as well, highly recommended.
